Sunny and crispthe perfect way to start a camp. There were plenty of quick hugs as the bags were loaded and the campers climbed aboard the bus to claim a seat. Camp Coonawarra has been chosen for this years grade 5 camp. It is in a beautiful rural setting and the activities are designed to stretch the kids just a bit more as they make their way through our camp- ing program. Well done and thanks to Tim Mulhall and the grade 5 team for their countless hours of preparation. Not all contingencies can be anticipated. On the weekend Miss Greaves was involved in a car accident leaving her with a very sore arm and no chance of fronting up to work. Ashlee has assured me that she will be right with some rest. Many thanks to Kristen Barnes who stepped into her place. Prep Fathers Day Brekky Well done to the prep team who hosted the preps fathers for a sumptuous breakfast of juice, crois- sants and coffee. We also welcomed an uncle, a mum and numerous grandfathers for breakfast. The meal was followed by a quick sharing of a video pro- duced by The Fathering Project which encourages fathers and father figures to be a prominent figure in the lives of their children or family members. It contained a great message and simple tips to help the men make a difference. I have lots of favourite times being principal here at Montrose, but this morning never fails to make me feel so grateful for being able to be a part of it. Parent Club Champs!!! Thanks to the Parent Club who came through big time last week. Message from the Principal

Hi Everyone

Grade 5 camp (alas with no Miss Greaves)

It was great to be at school at 7.15 this morning ready to farewell the grade 5 campers. Sunny and crisp… the perfect way to start a camp. There were plenty of quick hugs as the bags were loaded and the campers climbed aboard the bus to claim a seat. Camp Coonawarra has been chosen for this year’s grade 5 camp. It is in a beautiful rural setting and the activities are designed to stretch the kids just a bit more as they make their way through our camp-ing program.

Prep Fathers Day Brekky

Well done to the prep team who hosted the prep’s fathers for a sumptuous breakfast of juice, crois-sants and coffee. We also welcomed an uncle, a mum and numerous grandfathers for breakfast. The meal was followed by a quick sharing of a video pro-duced by The Fathering Project which encourages fathers and father figures to be a prominent figure in the lives of their children or family members. It contained a great message and simple tips to help the men make a difference. I have lots of favourite times being principal here at Montrose, but this morning never fails to make me feel so grateful for being able to be a part of it.

Parent Club Champs!!!

Thanks to the Parent Club who came through big time last week. The fathers day stall run over Tues-day and Wednesday provided some neat, affordable gifts for the kids to match with their dads personali-ties.

On Thursday the school disco was held and proved to be a great success… the buzz around the school was phenomenal!!

Stay tuned for more information about this exciting new development!

VALUE OF THE WEEK Honesty

What is it?

Flexibility is being open to change. It means not

always having to have your own way. Many

unexpected things happen to us that we cannot

control. When things happen that upset us, it can

mean that we need to do things differently or

improve in some way. Flexibility means you see

difficult things as a challenge and that you are

willing to make changes to become a better person.

Canteen News Minestrone Soup was served on Wednesday and I was pleased that most of the chil-dren brought along their own spoon to ensure they got all the vegie & pasta good-ies from the bottom of their cup. Thank you yet again for the prompt return of cups.

On Friday, we had a great day in the canteen and I was very lucky to receive some live updates via text on the Hoop Time progress down at Kilsyth stadium.

Nearing the end of term, we are starting to see a lot of re-useable lunch bags that are quite dirty. Please check your child’s bag and if necessary, pop it in the wash-ing machine J

You Can Do It This term’s Key for Success is Persistence. The habits of mind that go with the Persistence Key are: working tough, giving 100% effort and believing they can do it when things get tough.

Our Persistence, YCDI it winners for this week are:

Violet L, 2EH

This student from 2EH may not be the first to finish a task, but you can be guaranteed that she will always finish, because she never gives up. It doesn’t matter whether it is a fun writing task that she loves or a tricky maths task that she finds challenging. She will always give 100% effort, ask for help when she needs it, and keep working hard until it is finished to a standard that she is happy with.

Congratulations Violet Lardner! You always show such amazing persistence.

Olivia O, 4S

When it came to deciding on a student to give the Persistence Award to, it was an easy choice. The first name that

sprung to mind was this student’s.

She never ceases to amaze me and she never gives up! She tries her guts out and does anything I ask of her.

This student has not only gained confidence throughout the year but she has also proven the old adage “when the

going gets tough, the tough get going,” and we have seen improvements in all areas of her learning. She is a true

champion both on and off the field. Well-done Olivia!

Maddie O, 1KB

This student from 1B has shown that she is a dedicated learner who always takes on tasks with enthusiasm and effort. She is a student who works tough and never gives up, even when something feels like it's too hard to do. She is always eager to make sure she finishes her work and now understands the importance of producing good quality work, rather than being the first to finish. She is beginning to exhibit greater confidence and initiative when finding a partner to work with and is taking better care of her belongings, making sure to not lose so many of them. Your persistence in the classroom has not gone unnoticed Maddie. You have made such great progress this year and you should be proud of yourself!

Jasmine S, 5AG

This particular student always leaves me in Awe. This student has already faced some big challenges in her short 11 years. But this student always arrives to my classroom with the biggest smile, the kindest heart and the biggest drive to learn. Even though she doesn’t always learn first time round, she always gives it her all and is right back the next day ready to give it another red hot go. She gets back up after every fall and she always celebrates her achievements. Jazz we can all learn from your determination and persistence, not only in your learning but also in your daily attitude to life. I couldn’t think of a student more deserving of this award. Congratulations Jasmine Silcox, you are an absolute star!
