b. Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre , IEDC

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre at CUSAT was established as an initiative

of National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) and Department

of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, with an aim of develop institutional mechanism to create

entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship

amongst the faculty and students. The total project funding is 45.3 lakhs of which Student start up

seed funding will be 25 lakhs. Five student business ideas (Innovative ideas) will be selected each year

for a funding of Rs 1 Lac for each project. Each project period will be for one year. The total projects

that will be funded will be 25 over a period of 5 yrs. Once the student projects materialise into a

minimum viable product stage then they are open for venture capital funding. In its inception year 5

student projects were selected by DST and funded as per the above criterion. The projects were

incubated with tandem consultation with innovators working at the start up village and most of the

project fellows participated in the various programs of the startup village during the project period.

The IEDC is conducting regular Entrepreneurship programs for students. A program on Product

Development is also being started for core designers.
