The Scottish Journal of Geology continues the Transactions of the Edinburgh Geological Society and the Transactions of the Geological Society of Glasgow, and is sponsored by the councils of the two Societies. It contains three parts per volume. The Journal is sent to members of both societies. Details of membership may be obtained from the secretaries, whose names appear below.

Certain back numbers of the Trans. Edinb. Geol. Soc. and the Trans. Geol. Soc. Glasg. are still available. A list of the prices and parts may be had on application to Scottish Academic Press Ltd., 33 Montgomery Street, Edinburgh, EH7 5JX.

The Societies gratefully acknowledge financial help from the Carnegie Trust and the Kilwarlin Trust. Contributions or legacies to assist towards the cost of publication of the Journal would be welcomed by the Editorial Board.

The cover of the Journal in this 150th anniversary year of the Edinburgh Geological Society is a recent artist's impression by John McWilliam. It shows the well known Edinburgh skyline, before development of the city intruded upon the scene, with the remains of the early Carboniferous volcano of Arthur's Seat and the striking line of the mid Carboniferous teschenite sill forming Salisbury Crags.
