PART II: Information about the School’s Programme

The information of part II from no.1 to 13 should be no longer than nine (9) pages long of A4 in

total. The information should be written in Times New Roman font, 11-12 point size.

1. Title of the school’s programme

GREEN REVOLUTION

2. Summary of the programme

The green revolution’s pilot project has been started in January 2016. Eventually, this project has

great welcome and support from the school community. Hence, we need to continue this project

with added activities for the year of 2017. We’ve started this project with three main categories; i.

Green canteen; ii. Green teaching and learning iii. Environment sustainability. Each category

carries out different activities which focus on sustainability of healthy living and green

environment.

In our first category, we encourage school kids to eat healthy and nutritional food. Due to that, our

school strictly prohibited the selling of process food (hot dog, dry noodles, burger, etc) in the

school canteen. Besides that, all children only allowed to bring their food in an environmentally

friendly container or biodegradable wrapper. Moreover, fast food like pizza, KFC and Mc Donald

strictly not allowed in any school parties or functions. These rules were an eye-opener to both kids

and parents on how to cultivate healthy eating lifestyle in their daily food preparation menu.

Next category is to transform teaching and learning process more effective way with the paperless

concept. Currently, Malaysian Education Department had introduced FrogAsia teaching and

learning in school, our school took an initiative to utilize this online program widely in daily

teaching tasks. In addition to that, we’ve integrated the FrogAsia into our lesson plan where

teachers will upload all worksheets in online system and evaluate it regularly. Whereas, students

can complete given task thru online and get remarks and rewards from their education specialist at

any time. Thru this program we’ve reduced paper wastage and make student realize how important

to preserve nature for future generation. All student from lower and upper primary had completed

approximately 9000 work sheets from January until August 2017.

Our final category is to spread the joy of green living to our school community as well as the

neighborhood. Few highlighted activities were done in this category such as, fixing solar lamp post

in school campus which was sponsored by political party. Then planting many plants around school

campus and nearby open land to stop waste thrown by the pedestrian. Additionally, we did waste

management by recycling, reuse and reduce all school wastes. We’ve encouraged parents, students

and teachers to collect and gather waste material and transform it for daily activities such as plastic

flower pot, rubbish bin, teaching aid material etc. We did sell some waste material and used the

money for the green program. Every day we collected waste foods from school canteen and

students home then buried it to make a compost bin for planting purpose. This is good source of

nutrient for plants.

In conclusion, this green revolution project has gained great impact on our school community.

Students, teachers, parents, and stakeholders have awareness on Healthy and green living lifestyle

and commitment towards environment preservation for future generation.

3. Background information or reasons why the school created this programme

-3-

This project was created to give green living awareness to school community and neighborhood. The

school surrounded by many trees and empty lands. Most of the time, people in school neighborhood

throw rubbish on this empty land. So, we planned and cleaned this land and decorated with some

decorative plants which were contributed by MPPP (Penang Government Council) as our pioneer

activity. We did install a sign board for not throwing rubbish in that empty land to preserve the fertility

of that land. The next is our school kids eating habits in their daily life. After some analysis among

school children and parents we found out eating balance and healthy food awareness greatly lacks in

our school community. In addition to that plastic bag usage becomes common for our school students

as well. So, we decided to increase an awareness on healthy lifestyle among our school kids and

community. Eventually, we encourage student to bring nutrition value food and modified school

canteen meal preparation menu to serve healthy and balance nutrients food for students. In addition to

that, we also prohibited plastic usage in school campus and substitute with biodegradable bags. We

didn’t encourage students to distribute junk food and process food for any parties organized at school

campus. Other than that, to reduce and conserve paper we’ve converted teaching and learning system

from conventional method to online system uses FrogAsia. We did reduced and conserved electrical

energy by fixing solar panel lamp post around school campus. We found emphasize healthy and green

living practice leads to positive changes in our school environment as well as students, teachers and

parents attitude .
