WALKING ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS

Dear friends in Christ: In the midst of this pandemic we continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus because otherwise, the trials and the hardships would be more unbearable. It is knowing that Jesus has conquered evil and death that we walk in faith knowing and trusting that God is with us and we are not alone. The resurrection of Jesus gives us the hope and the strength to know that this will come to an end soon and we will continue to live our lives in harmony and peace as Christ himself has mandated it.

The Church gives us this weekend as our Gospel, the story of the Road to Emmaus. It is a story that is filled with sadness, despair and perhaps doubts because the One they thought was going to liberate them is now dead and is gone from their sight. As Jesus encounters them the evening of the resurrection, they failed to recognize that it was the Lord himself. Jesus pretends not to know anything of what has taken place in Jerusalem in regards to the sufferings and death of Jesus. The Lord uses this time to illumine their hearts and minds so they can understand that everything He said while he was with them is true and is being fulfilled with his death and resurrection.

As Jesus explains to them the Scriptures and as they sit at table with the Risen Lord, they come to recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread. Both the Scriptures and Eucharist are what brings these men to their senses and to acknowledge Jesus as the one who died on the cross and promised to rise on the third day. This Gospel is all about the Eucharist. We know very well that our celebration of the Mass is made up of two parts: the liturgy of the Word and the liturgy of the Eucharist. In the first part of the Mass we listen attentively to the Word of God that is proclaimed by the lector, the deacon and the priest. The Word that we hear is the Word that gives us life and wisdom for our life. The Word of God responds to many questions and intrigues we have in our hearts and minds and shows us the way to live life as the true Disciples of Christ. The Word inspires all of us to act like children of God caring for one another. Then the second part of the Mass in the liturgy of the Eucharist where we encounter the living God. God sends Jesus from heaven to become one with us under the forms of bread and wine that become the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. At the altar of God, heaven is united with earth in one song of praise and worship to Almighty God. In the celebration of the Mass we have a taste of what heaven is going to be like. The book of Revelation portraits heaven as being nothing but a great Liturgy where the Lamb of God will be our light forever.

Let us walk the road to Emmaus understanding what we already know, that Jesus died and rose from the dead for our salvation and our peace. Let us ask the Lord to give us the grace to always recognize Him in the Breaking of the Bread but also in every person we meet each day. May Christ reign always in your heart!

The corona virus has brought many people together. People who perhaps never reach out to others, today they

are doing it and I am happy to see you going out of your way to help your

brothers and sisters. Many people today especially those who are not working right now are having difficulties trying to make it with their families. It is good that you are thinking of them and are sharing your resources with them. I know many of you have said that you never thought you would see this day. But the thing is not to give up hope and continue to

be attentive not only to your needs but to those out there who are struggling more than you. I am happy to see the food that is being distributed every week in the parking lot of your Church. Many people are benefiting from your generosity and your hard work. I saw this past Friday the many people that came to your parking lot to collect food and how they went away with big smiles because they had food to feed their families. In the midst of the epidemic you see light when people’s colors come true in their kindness. Keep up the good work. Ciao, woof, woof.

LIVING THE QUARANTINEWe have been living a forced quarantine in order to protect ourselves and of course protect others from becoming infected. These days forced on us to stay home haven’t been easy for so many people especially for those who are always on the go, always doing things and working hard. It hasn’t been easy for me because I enjoy doing things and being out there for others. But this time has helped me to concentrate more on my prayer life. I have lived more my Eucharistic celebrations as well as the Holy Hours we’ve been doing live stream. I have been able to organize and clean my living quarters since during the year I really don’t have any time. I have been able to call people on the phone and chat with them and see how they are doing. I have taken the time to read some books and to watch some television. This time has also been an opportunity to think about my own life and how fragile life truly is. We are here today but tomorrow we could be in eternity and therefore we must enjoy those we love so much and let them know how dear they are to us. My quarantine hasn’t been that difficult although I can’t wait to return to normal and be able to see all of you and celebrate with you around the table of the Lord. Let us continue to pray for one another. Be at peace everyone.

FEEDING PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITYWe are very grateful to the many people that have been working hard in collecting and finding food to be shared with families here in Morristown and especially within our community. I see how many families have been blessed by receiving food. Some institutions like Catholic Charities from our diocese have been reaching out to our parish to distribute food for those families in need. Also the Methodist Church on the Green and Chef Fredy’s Table Restaurant had been working in collecting the food that some of you have brought to be given to the Interfaith Food Pantry of Morristown and Patricia and Wilmer who have been so generous with the trucks loaded with food. Together we have been able to help out those families who are starting to feel the effects of the Pandemic in our country. Remember if anyone is in need they can always go to the Interfaith Food Pantry located at 190 Speedwell Ave in Morristown, it is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30-11:45 AM. Please remember that you must first call 973-538-8049 we ask you to please be patient because once they take your information then you can collect your food with no problem. Seeing the many people that are helping out we see that the words of Jesus come true in our lives: “I was hungry and you gave me food.”

When you are counted the federal government will make sure to share better resources with the county as well as with the State in regards to health, education and many other things that pertain to our lives. DE CAMINO A EMAÚSPor Padre Hernán

Queridos amigos en Cristo: En medio de esta pandemia seguimos celebrando la resurrección de Jesús, porque de lo contrario, las pruebas y penas fueran insoportables. Es sabiendo que Jesús ha conquistado el mal y la muerte que caminamos en fe sabiendo y confiando en que Dios está con nosotros y que no estamos solos. La resurrección de Jesús nos da la esperanza y fortaleza para saber que esto terminará pronto y seguiremos nuestra vida normal en armonía y paz como Cristo mismo nos mandó.

La iglesia nos da en este fin de semana en el Evangelio la historia del Camino a Emaús, un relato lleno de tristeza, desesperación y a lo mejor de dudas, porque Aquel quien pensaron que los iba a liberar había muerto y estaba fuera de vista. A su encuentro en la noche de la resurrección no lo reconocen como el Señor. Él se hace como si no supiera nada de lo ocurrido en Jerusalén sobre los sufrimientos y la muerte de Jesús. El Señor usa este tiempo para iluminar sus corazones y mentes para que puedan entender que todo lo que les dice mientras camina con ellos era verdad y se había cumplido con su muerte y resurrección.

Mientras Jesús les explica las Escrituras y se sientan a la mesa con el Señor resucitado, reconocen a Jesús en el partir del pan. Las Escrituras y Eucaristía son lo que llevan a estos hombres a caer en cuenta y reconocer a Jesús como aquel que murió en la cruz y prometió resucitar al tercer día. Este evangelio habla sobre la eucaristía. Sabemos muy bien que nuestra celebración de la Misa consta de 2 partes: la Liturgia de la Palabra y la Liturgia de la Eucaristía. En la primera parte escuchamos atentamente la Palabra de Dios proclamada por el Lector, diácono y sacerdote. Esa Palabra nos da vida y sabiduría. Responde a muchas preguntas e interrogantes que tenemos en nuestro corazón y mente y nos muestra el camino para vivir como verdaderos discípulos de Cristo. La Palabra de Dios nos inspira a todos a cuidar unos por otros. La segunda parte es donde nos encontramos con el Dios vivo. Dios envía a Jesús del cielo para hacerse uno con nosotros bajo las especies del pan y el vino que se convierten en su cuerpo y sangre. En el altar de Dios, se unen el cielo con la tierra en un canto de alabanza y adoración a Dios todopoderoso. En la celebración de la Misa tenemos un anticipo de lo que tendremos en el cielo. El Libro del apocalipsis nos presenta el cielo como una gran Liturgia donde el Cordero de Dios será por siempre nuestra luz.

Caminemos a Emaús comprendiendo lo que ya sabemos, que Jesús murió por nosotros y resucitó de la muerte por nuestra salvación y paz. Pidámosle al Señor que nos de la gracia de reconocerle en el partir del pan y en cada persona que nos encontremos cada día. ¡Que Cristo reine en tu corazón!

Memorias de TonyEl coronavirus ha unido a muchas personas, a gente que quizá nunca había ayudado a otra, y ahora lo están

haciendo y estoy feliz de ver que están esforzándose lo mejor posible para ayudar a tus hermanos y hermanas. Muchos hoy, en especial los que no están trabajando ahora están teniendo dificultad para sostener a su familia. Es bueno que pienses en ellos y compartas tus recursos con ellos. Sé que muchos de ustedes han dicho que nunca pensaron haber visto estos días de crisis. No pierdas

la esperanza y sigue atento a tus necesidades y a las de aquellos luchando aun más que tu. Estoy contento de ver que muchos están trayendo alimentos al parqueo de la iglesia los martes y jueves de 10 a 12. Muchos se están beneficiando gracias a tu generosidad. Recuerda que esta ayuda se recibe por medio de Interfaith Food Pantry, que es el Banco de alimentos local. Verás más información en este boletín para saber adónde llamar. VIVIENDO EN CUARENTENAHemos estado viviendo una cuarentena forzosa para protegernos asi mismos y a los demás para prevenir contagiarnos del virus. Estos días nos han obligado a quedarnos en casa y no han sido fáciles para los que siempre están en movimiento, haciendo cosas y trabajando fuerte. Para mi no ha sido fácil porque disfruto de estar en movimiento y al servicio de los demás. Pero este tiempo me ha ayudado a concentrarme más en la vida de oración. He vivido más mi celebración eucarística y hora santa que transmitimos en línea. He podido poner orden a mi cuarto y a mis cosas, ya que durante el año no me queda tiempo. He llamado a personas para charlar con ellas y preguntarles cómo están. Y aun me queda tiempo para leer libros y ver algo de televisión. Este tiempo también ha sido oportunidad para pensar sobre mi vida y en qué frágiles somos. Hoy estamos pero mañana tal vez lo estemos en la eternidad, así que debemos disfrutar de los seres que amamos y decirles cuánto disfrutamos de su compañía. Mi cuarentena no ha sido difícil aunque no veo la hora de regresar a la vida normal y poder verlos a todos nuevamente y celebrar con en torno a la mesa del Señor. Sigamos orando unos por otros. Que estén en paz.

ALIMENTANDO A GENTE DE NUESTRA COMUNIDAD

Estoy muy agradecido con tantas personas que están trabajando fuerte recogiendo y buscando alimentos para compartirlos con las familias del pueblo y nuestra comunidad. Veo cómo muchos han sido bendecidos recibiendo alimentos. Caridades católicas en Paterson nos ha llamado para distribuir comida a nuestras familias necesitadas. Además Methodist Church y el restaurante Chef Fredy’s Table han estado recogiendo alimentos para el Banco de alimentos local y Patricia y Wilmer han sido muy generosos con camiones repletos de comida. Juntos hemos ayudado a aquellas familias que empiezan a sentir los efectos de la pandemia. Recuerden que si hay alguien que necesite alimento dígales que vayan a Interfaith Food Pantry en la 190 Speedwell Avenue, abren martes, miércoles y jueves de 9:30-11:45 a.m. y ANTES DE IR DEBEN LLAMAR PRIMERO al 973-538-8049. Tengan paciencia porque ellos primero deben tener toda tu información antes de darte la ayuda para que así la puedas recibir sin problema. Vemos que las palabras de Jesús se hacen vivas en nuestras vidas: “porque tuve hambre y me diste de comer”.

Cuando todos somos contados el gobierno tiene una mejor idea de cómo repartir mejor los recursos y saber cuánto aportar para la salud, la educación y muchas otras cosas de nuestra vida.
