ST. MARY STUDENT PARISH ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN
Nuestra Seňora de Guadalupe By Omar Virgin y Eliza Alvarez
"¿No estoy yo aquí que soy tu Madre? ¿No estás bajo mi
sombra y resguardo? ¿No soy la fuente de tu alegría? ¿No
igualdad, respeto, humildad y dignidad.
Our Lady of Guadalupe By Omar Virgin & Eliza Alvarez
“Can you see me here? I’m your mother. Aren’t you here with
me, under my keeping? Am I your source of happiness? What
else can you ask for?”
These words are from of one of the conversations between our
Holy Mother and San Juan Diego. Words that each one of us
needs to keep in our heart, for we will always have problems in
our lives, but she, in her maternal mercifulness knows and
recognizes what is going on in our lives. Mary worries and
intervenes for us.
The Holy Virgin chose one of the people-- a native-- as her
intermediary with the bishop Fray Juan de Zumárraga. San Juan
Diego was not a politician or rich and influential. Her choice
indicates that Mexico and the other countries of the Americas
need their everyday heroes in faith like San Juan Diego. We all
need justice, equity, respect, humility and dignity. We all need
Our Blessed Mother who guides us to these ideals, just as she did
for Juan Diego.
With Mary’s guidance, let us love our people with our hearts; let
us live our customs with our Christian roots. Let us look to our
Holy Mother for peace and happiness. Let us build peace and
happiness in our homes and in the countries of the Americas. Let
us take her feast as a reminder to trust in our Blessed Mother,
even in the midst of difficulties.
Particularly for us, despite being far from our home country, our
family and friends, we turned to the Blessed Mother and found
her spirit of love and peace in Saint Mary, a second home, a
second family and a place where our Christian life has made a
change of 360°.
Thursday, December 12 at 7pm
Please join us for the Bi-lingual mass celebrating the feast of
“Our Lady of the Americas.” Learn the story of our Mother’s
appearance to Juan Diego in 1531 and her message to the
Church universal.
Children will be dressed in their native costumes. Roses will
be placed in front of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Mariachi’s will lead the recessional from mass and during the
reception held in Newman Hall. And be sure to join us
afterwards for “food from the Americas” and an opportunity
to mix with members of our Hispanic/Latino community.

ST. MARY STUDENT PARISH ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN
This December, we are embarking on a new and creative Advent journey at St. Mary’s. Members of the staff and student leaders are writing daily reflections about what inspires them as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of Christ. Our intention is to give voice to the people of God in our midst and to highlight the particular ways that God is becoming incarnate and dwelling among us right here in this parish. For this reason, we will not be offering the Advent reflection booklets that we have in the past but hope instead that you will join us on this new Advent journey.
The St. Mary Advent reflections will be posted daily on a blog that can be accessed through the website, Facebook, or Twitter. You can also sign up to receive daily text messages, daily emails or weekly emails with links to the latest posts.* You all are invited to tune in to SMSPAdvent.blogspot.com starting November 30, the first Sunday of Advent. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you have questions or comments, please contact
Abby Braun at [email protected].
* Many of the reflections will include mixed media, such as songs or videos, and as a result do not lend themselves well to hard copy. If you are looking for a printed resource for Advent, check out Sacred Space for Advent and the Christmas Season 2014-15 at Ave Maria Press (800 282-1865, ext. 1).

St. Mary’s Lesbian and Gay Outreach Tuesday, December 16 from 7:00-8:30 PM
As a diverse community of believers, we respect each person as a
unique reflection of God's presence in our midst. We commit
ourselves to being a community of care, support, formation,
reconciliation, and witness to justice with and among gay and
lesbian persons, their parents, family members, and friends.
We teach that all love comes from God and focus on helping
people reconcile their faith with their orientation. We provide a
safe space for discussion, healing, and prayer.
Together we reflect on Scripture and listen to the lived
experience of lesbian and gay persons and their Allies. This group
is sponsored by St. Mary Student Parish and will meet monthly.
Meetings are private and confidential.
For further information, contact Mark at [email protected]
or Deacon Romolo Leone at [email protected].
