NewsletterA message From the Deputy Head

of Section Think positively:

It is crucial to give your mind consistently positive and harmonious thoughts. If you keep concentrating on how poor, unhappy, weak or incapable you are, then mental images of vulnerability and weakness -along with apprehension and incompetence -will be conveyed to all the body tissues. They, in turn, will be affected by these destructive vibrations, and your body will hinder you with illnesses, imbalances in the various physical systems and lack of motivation or energy.

The idea of subconscious suggestion can be seen in the behaviour of many early Muslims. The Prophet (SAW) even taught his own daughter Fatimah (RA) this technique when she came with her husband, 'Ali (RA), to ask the Prophet (SAW) to help them acquire a servant, as the housework was becoming too much for them to bear. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) sat gently beside them and taught them a form of dhikr Allah (remembering Allah through praising and supplicating to Him) to say every night just before going to bed: Subhana Allah (Glory be to Allah) -33 times Allamdulillah (All praise be to Allah) -33 times Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest) -34 times He (SAW) told them: «That is better for you than a servant.» (Al)mad; al-Albani graded it as sound)

They tried it with absolute faith and belief, and it worked. They found within themselves the strength to perform all the needed work. These are not mere words: 'Ali and Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with them) believed completely in them and in the power and will of Allah (SWT). There is an actual blessing in these words, and sincere faith was the key to receiving that blessing.

Of course, we must still remember that any benefit arising from certain supplications and dhikr comes only by the will of Allah (SWT). We do not have the knowledge of how Allah (SWT) brings this about, but we know and believe that it is true and effective. Prophet Muhammad(SAW) taught us to make dhikr, and he(SAW) gave us many examples of phrases to use. Some of these are to be recited specifically in the morning and evening. These are not just meditation exercises; they are a continuous active remembrance of the power of Allah (SWT) and a regeneration of our faith and belief. If you practice them regularly and faithfully, they constitute a type of autosuggestion, protecting you from poverty, disease and evil thoughts. This opens in front of you the doors to a prosperous, happy and healthy life in this world and to a promised eternal reward beyond all human limitations and boundaries.Find your path with your true secret (True Secret Book)

Art

In our art studios we practise art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, design & crafts. This month we had our super stars of year 8 boys busy with exploring the Elements of Art. Students also mastered Art Appreciation skills to develop knowledge of the general and everlasting qualities that classify all great art. They learned to analyse the form of an artwork to general audiences to enhance their enjoyment of such works of art, based on the basic 7 elements of art.

Computer Science & Business

This week, Grade 9 had covered the use of hexadecimal systems in regards to developing software, tracing errors, creating webpages using HTML and MAC addresses. In the second session of the week, we also had an interesting discussion on the growing technology , specifically the iPhone 11 & 11 Pro launch, and the students showed their interest or disinterests and their likes or dislikes towards the product. The students seemed to be quite happy to share their thoughts on it.

Science What have our Year 7s Been up to?Secondary Science Department

Our year 7 students have experienced their very first test for this academic year in unit 7K-Forces. Students had the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge about gravity, friction and air resistance, whilst at the same time learning about upthrust, pressure, Hooke’s law and identifying the difference between weight and mass. During this unit, students were also able to further develop their practical skills via the Hooke’s Law investigation, by planning a fair test and carrying out the investigation. Students evaluated their results and shared data on results obtained.

A second investigation that students carried out was investigating the effect of ramp height on the speed of an object. Students recorded measurements on time taken for toy car to reach the end of the ramp at different heights. Students then used their data to calculate the speed of the car and form a conclusion based on their results.

Students have started the unit (7A) on cells where they will have received the opportunity to test out their observation skills and scientific drawing skills via microscopy practical. We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate their research skills and creativity by producing a cell model of a specialised cell of their choice.

Physical Education

Football has now ‘kicked in’ on the boys’ side with our boys preparing for theupcoming ministry competition for 2004 in two weeks. The boys have beenconcentrating on their passing, moving and creating space so that we can gain anadvantage in a game situation. The boys’ have benefited from double lessons in keystage 3 in which they can concentrate fully on their skills before putting this into agame situation.

For the first time, we have been confirmed as participants at the World SchoolGames basketball competition which will be held in Abu Dhabi this at New YorkUniversity. Our boys will be staying over on a weekend in December and competeagainst the best schools from around the globe. Another fantastic opportunity forour boys to showcase their skills, this time, at higher level.

The first SPEA competition of the year was held earlier this week with our under 14girls’ basketball championship. Our older girls have built up quite a formidablereputation over the years inspiring our younger generation. Our girls fully lived up tothe expectation coming through the tournament against tough schools withoutconceding a basket against us, winning all 3 of our games to move into the finalstages. A fantastic start to the year for all our students.

Parents corner

So here we are! A brand-new school year, learning about new things, buildingfriendships, making beautiful memories, and let’s not forget, school rounds, navigating through traffic, nurturing our children of various ages, homework, exams! Sometimes it all gets so overwhelming as a parent.

Its 7pm on a school day. The toddler is having a meltdown because he can’t find hisLego shield (that’s 2 cm by 2cm, mind you!), one child has a test the next day thathe forgot to revise for, the other one is stuck on a topic and can’t figure it out, andthe family still has to have dinner and get to bed, and we may have guests comingover later!

At this time, we as parents have to realign ourselves with our purpose. Why are we here again? To worship Allah.

What is parenting, being patient, helping people out, feeding people, showingmercy to them? Worship.

Suddenly something clicks and we realize what’s going on. Allah has put us incharge of these beautiful gifts – our children- and we worship Allah throughnurturing them. They are trusts kept with us for a short while. We have to fulfil ourduties towards them, all the while remembering to ask Allah for help repeatedly.Take prayer, for example. It is our duty and we do it with love. We always want toperfect our salah, to get the Quran recitation and actions right, we have a specialprayer mat, we always make sure we have wudu and khushu.

Let’s keep the same spirit when we parent our children. Let’s remember that we arein a state of worship and keep improving ourselves, let’s be patient again and again, even if it is so difficult sometimes and keep making dua for ourselves and ourchildren.

Let’s nurture our children with love and mercy. Maybe this whole parenting thing isour opportunity to get to Jannah. So parents, make a dua, take a deep breath, make yourself a cup of tea and let’s getback to work worship!

“Participating in competitions as such these empower you to display your confidence andpour out scrambled words onto paper and finish the puzzle, leading in a beautiful piece ofunique art belonging to you alone. Reciting poetry improves your confidence in deliveringpublic speeches and removes the taboo against speaking with emotions and sentiments.Furthermore, the reading competition aims at getting the readers to read the story in depthand answer critical questions which in the end shapes the mind of a blossoming reader thatare stepping stones for the budding writer.”

Students used their electronic devices to answer series of questions about the location such as what facilities are available in the area, what they like about the location, how the park will attract surrounding neighborhoods. It is much needed recreation facility. At the end, the organizers were very pleased with our students for their participation and maturity.
