more study courses being developed for introduction inthe near future, covering all aspects of lubricants andlubrication.
There are very few companies, MLM or otherwise, that provide the variety and quality of sales and trainingtools that AMSOIL provides its Dealers. These homestudy courses are just a small part of the total picture. OurAMSOIL University is another. And when you look at thevolume of high quality literature and sales aids we pro-duce and make available to every Dealer, you understandthe extent of our commitment to you. There are “Howto” books available on just about every facet of thisbusiness, as well as both technical and sales literature onevery product. Whether you want a product data sheetto provide technical information or a sales brochure ona specific product, it is available from AMSOIL.
In addition to the many AMSOIL employees whoactually produce the products you sell, there are many, many other employees here at AMSOIL who are pri-marily here to serve our Dealers. For instance, we staffan entire department of talented writers and creativepeople who consult with the Sales Department, ourchemists, and Technical Services Department to planand write the sales literature, data sheets, Action News,Altrum News, Directline newsletters, Serviceline newsletters, product labels and all the other materials we produce insupport of our Dealers. Because we produce these salestools in large volume and do not include costs for writ-ing, photography, etc., they are available to our Dealersat very reasonable prices.
We also staff marketing and website maintenancepersonnel. Our Marketing Department develops adsand buys space in various magazines and follows up onthe leads they produce. We receive many thousands ofleads from our advertising every year, all of which areresponded to by AMSOIL and referred to a Dealer.
Our Webmaster keeps our website operational and upto date while assisting and coordinating with Dealers todevelop their own websites and have them linked toours. We offer a number of website options as part of ourservice to Dealers.
One of the most important services we provide ourDealers is access to our Technical Services Departmentpersonnel. Most other MLM companies not only dis-courage contact from their dealers, they simply donot allow such contact. We feel access to our companyis very important. We want your questions answered, andwe have qualified people here to answer you or yourcustomer’s questions and concerns. It’s a service mostDealers take for granted, but it is rare in our industry. Wefeel that allowing Dealer access to our technical staff is away we can assist you on a day-to-day basis.
As I have stated many times before, when our Dealerssucceed, we succeed. So we will always do everything inour power to help you achieve success in this business. The home study series is just one more learning oppor-tunity we make available to assist you. Because themore you know about our products, the better pre-pared and more successful you will be in marketingthem.
A. J. “Al” AmatuzioPresident and CEO, AMSOIL INC.
You don’t have to be a lubrication engineer to be a suc-cessful AMSOIL Dealer. On the contrary, when you areselling to and sponsoring your friends and neighbors, it’snot necessary to overwhelm them with technical infor-mation. What they should know is that AMSOIL lubri-cants outperform every other lubricant on the market, protecting their equipment and saving them money.
But the fact remains that whenever you sell any-thing, it’s always best to be fully prepared to make yourpoints and to convince the occasional skeptic. So havinga good working knowledge of the benefits your productsprovide can only help you be more successful in mar-keting them.
This is especially true if you sell in the commercialand industrial markets. There, it is not only importantto know your products, you should also be familiarwith lubrication in general and specifics about the appli-cations you are recommending your products be used in.Here again, you don’t have to be a chemist or lubrica-tion engineer, but the more you know about lubrication, the better. Part of our job here at AMSOIL is to provideyou with the tools necessary to advance your knowledgeabout this business so you feel comfortable representingour products in any market.
This Action News introduces a new training opportu-nity for Dealers who want to become better prepared tosell synthetic lubricants. It is just one of the many toolswe provide to assist and support you . . . tools that helpyou succeed in this business. It is the second in a seriesof home study courses that provide more than just thebasics needed to understand and sell lubricants.
Our first home study course, “Lubrication I” receivedoutstanding reviews from our Dealers. This new studycourse, “Lubrication II,” covers the physical propertiesand testing of lubricants and is certainly worthy ofyour consideration if you are interested in advancingyour knowledge of the products you sell. There are

6 AMSOIL ACTION NEWS / NOVEMBER 2003
Today’s world brings savvy, sophisticated consumersto every market. They’re also busier than ever before.
That’s why AMSOIL has developed a seven-partDealer Home Study Series. The second booklet in theseries, Lubrication II, which teaches physical proper-ties of lubricants and test methodologies, is now available.
This series is simply the single besttraining tool any Dealer can have, whether they’re just beginning theirAMSOIL business or are well-establishedin the multi-level-marketing plan, saidTechnical Director Dave Anderson.
“It’s not a deal, it’s a steal,” Andersonsaid.
The series basically takes the bestinformation from AMSOIL Universityand puts it into seven booklets thatcome complete with a CD-ROM. Thebooklets each take about two hours tocomplete. “You can do it at home atyour leisure,” Anderson said. “Eachbooklet provides the basic informa-tion a Dealer is going to need to excelin the market today.”
Anderson explained that whilethere is a wealth of information inthe product data bulletins, Dealers whodon’t understand the technicalities of the productsmay be at a disadvantage when speaking to their cus-tomers. The Home Study Series gives makes the insightto understand what the technical language meansand the ability to break it down into understandablelanguage for their customers.
A primary feature of the series is that it “jumpstarts” a Dealer’s knowledge base and makes Dealersinvaluable resources to potential customers. “It min-imizes the learning curve and gets Dealers up andrunning as fast as possible,” Anderson said.
The information in this series is so complete Dealerscome away with as much information about lubrica-tion as many people who work in the industry. It’s thebackground information that allows Dealers to speakknowledgeably to customers in layman’s terms. Itmakes Dealers credible and believable, giving them theability to speak to the specific benefits of AMSOILproducts for each customer.
Beyond giving Dealers in-depth information thathelps them make sales, the flexibility of the bookletsand their professional layout make them an invaluabletraining tool. Established Dealers can use any part ofthe series and speak to specific lubrication questionsin seminars at companies, trade schools, chambers ofcommerce, or downline training, to name a few. “For
the established Dealer, this is a virtual gold mine,”Anderson said.
Parts of the booklets can simply be copied andpasted into a newsletter, which many establishedDealers circulate on a regular basis. “It’s a win-win sit-uation for everyone,” Anderson said.
The CD-ROM can easily beinstalled on a Dealer’s laptop com-puter and used when making callson customers and accounts. Or, theDealer can “customize” the parts ofthe booklet on the CD and showonly that part of the presentation. The beauty of it is that it’s all done,Anderson said. Dealers have a clear, concise presentation at their fingertipswherever they are.
Each booklet has a test on theAMSOIL corporate website thatDealers can take. If they pass with an80 percent, they earn “T” points, which qualifies them for other incen-tive programs offered throughAMSOIL.
Almost all of the Dealers who havepurchased the Lubrication I bookletand taken the test have passed.
Failing the test does not mean aDealer can’t retest. The tests are scored
and the incorrect answers are noted. AMSOIL thencontacts the Dealer with instructions on which pagesto review.
All of the comments AMSOIL has received regard-ing the series have been positive. Anderson reportedthat one Direct Jobber wrote in to the company andsaid: “If I would have had this 10 years ago, I’d befive to six years further ahead than I am now. Greatsales tool.”
The core program covers seven specific topics oflubrication. “If demand exists, we can increase thenumber of topics and come out with others of concernto the Dealer,” Anderson said. There are some 30topics already being considered, he said. “We’ll haveto see where the demand takes it,” he said. “We’re will-ing if they’re willing.”

Hummm. The sound constantly resonated above the crowded acreage of theIndianapolis State Fairgrounds during the 22nd Special Events 4-WheelJamboree. The continual rolling of oversize tires on the meandering roads of thegrounds provided the drone. It’s like when kids cruise the main drag in a smalltown on Saturday night. Every now and again the throaty, guttural bellow of anengine punctuated the air from the ongoing tough truck, mud racing or monstertruck competitions off on the distant infield. The Jamboree is all about trucks, seeing them and being seen in them.
Vendors like AMSOIL Dealers Dale andHatsue Carey, Brent Dieker and DirectJobbers John and Connie Luczak displayed
their wares. Not all had the presence of a monster truck like the “AmericanDream” acting like a magnet to draw in event-goers as the AMSOIL booth did.Tires and rims, chrome and grills, pipes and trim – everything and anything doingwith trucks was laid out like entrees at Old Country Buffet.
Dave Turpen has been with theAMSOIL stable of teams for severalyears and continued to work the crowdbetter than most. In the shadow of theAMSOIL-decaled monster truck, on hisown volition, Turpen posed for pictures, signed autographs and espoused the benefits of using AMSOIL products withthe deftness of P.T. Barnum. At night, he whooped the grandstand crowd intoa frenzy with his car-crunching, doughnut-whirling antics.
AMSOIL proudly sponsors the seven Special Events Jamborees across thecountry and this year provided a popular contingency program for the ToughTrucks. The Jamborees reach the ever-expanding truck market and AMSOILhas been well received. Although, at the“Jambos” it’s not always about whatgoes in the engine or transmission, butwhat’s showing on the outside.
Big toys for big boys, as they say. Big and bad is nice, but for those
enthusiasts serious about keeping theirmajor investment running better androlling along, AMSOIL stood above thecrowd.
What do you do when you’re one of the best motocrossand supercross teams out there? You get better. TeamAMSOIL has done just that. Kevin Windham returned tocompetition from injury for a spectacular 2003 outdoormotocross campaign to race for Factory Connection.Windham has agreed to continue racing as part of theAMSOIL/ Chaparral/Honda/Factory Connection team.
Windham complements a stacked AMSOIL team whichalready includes two-time National MX, World motocrossand U.S. Open supercross champion Mike LaRocco and
2002 125 West supercross champion Travis Preston. Let’s not overlook the addition of 125rider Billy Laninovich to the team that returns Chris Gosselaar and Ryan Mills. Windham’snumbers were incredible this year – 2 wins, 7 podium finishes and 14 motos where he wonor finished second. Welcome to the team Kevin.

Thousands of truck enthusiasts turn out tosee trucks and be seen in trucks.
