Service to others

At Selby Abbey School we pride ourselves on

thinking about and supporting those around us

and in the local community. Mrs Buttery and

our year five and six singers spent the

afternoon with residents at Osborne House last

Thursday, bringing some festive cheer by

singing carols. They also donated twiddle

muffs, which they had knitted as part of our

knitting club to support people with dementia,

which delighted the residents!

Fabulous fundraising A huge thank you to everyone for your fantastic enterprise stalls, very generous donations and time given to making our Christmas fayre such a super success. We raised an impressive £1010 for school to spend on enhancing children’s learning experiences.

Attendance Update Our school attendance target this year is 97%. At present it stands at 94.8%. Please remember that the Department for Education has changed the threshold for persistent absentees to 10%. This means any child whose attendance falls below 90% is now considered a persistent absentee. This equals 7 days absence before Christmas. Please come and talk to us if you have any worries or questions. Well done to Mrs Cannon’s class for achieving the highest attendance so far this year. Please help every class hit or exceed this target as excellent attendance really helps children’s learning, wellbeing and future life chances. Sensational singers Selby Abbey singers wowed shoppers at Tesco’s this week and raised a fantastic £147. They also brought lots of Christmas cheer to shoppers in Sainsburys earlier in the month as well as delighting a massive audience at Selby Town Hall during the switching on of the Christmas lights.

Reception Visit to the Abbey Reception wrapped up warmly and made their way over to visit the Abbey. They listened to the Nativity story told by Mr Weetman, sang Christmas carols under the Christmas tree and looked at the stained glass windows as they walked out of the Abbey. A lovely cold morning was had by all.

Onwards and upwards It has been a terrific term here at Selby Abbey School which included the launch of our Big Aspirations programme for year 6 and our very positive Ofsted inspection. We look forward to building on our many strengths and successes in partnership with you in the New Year.

Last but not least

Our last day is Friday

22 December and we

Tuesday 9 January 2018. Everyone at school

wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy

New Year. We look forward to seeing you back

with us on 9 January hopefully feeling

refreshed and raring to go!
