E-COMMERCE OFFICE - 351 CONTEXT:
From the general to the particular, the design aims at finding and embracing the most suitable solutions to every challenge and opportunity. Their mission statement (‘Together, we strive at making a difference in people’s lives by creating innovative lighting solutions to the challenges facing our clients and the environment.’) is used as a reference point from which the building originates. Electromagnetic waves, the foundation of light, give way to a massing that celebrates this idea. At the same time, it acknowledges its surroundings by creating inviting spaces in which employees and students can congregate such as an amphitheater and walkable green roof.

With a growing network of over 200 miles of barrier
protected bike lanes, Chicago wants to transform itself
and become the most bicycle friendly big-city in America. How can we help this car-
loving city embrace a greener life-style?

This proposed cycle center, located just northwest of downtown Chicago, is designed to maximize opportunity and mitigate constrains in order to stimulate social change. The most influential program requirements are pushed outwardly, exposing them to the public and stimulating engagement. This is attained by first redefining the program based on its leverage power - what are the drivers of change? Then, the new program is literally placed and positioned on the site according to the changes made. Finally, the building is molded in responds to climate, traffic and panoramic views.

in summer 2012, Chicago’s mayor rahm emanuel launched the reinvention initiative,
which aligned the City Colleges of Chicago to
leverage the city’s assets and better connect students
to successful careers.

CANNON DESIGN, INTERNSHIP:
Thanks to the approximated 84 thousand healthcare jobs expected to come to the Chicago area during the next decade and its proximity to Rush Medical Center, Malcolm X College was designed with a focus on the health sciences. As part of the multidisciplinary team leading the vision and design of the new campus, I had the amazing opportunity to help improve the way community colleges help students learn and succeed.
The vision calls for a design that facilitates innovative learning practices while providing a junction nurturing communication and academic participation.
How can we support students from diverse backgrounds
achieve a career in the health sciences?

123 ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING:
Inspired by the structural principle of tensegrity, the model to the right aims at studying the collective potential between compressed members and tensioned members, while maintaining an honest approach to aesthetics.
PERSONAL WORK:
The light fixture to the left is part of a personal attempt on creating subtle ambient light while designing a ornaments based on the golden ratio.
ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING 123 AND PERSONAL WORKS:
This pavilion aims at understanding the elements stimulating an individual’s explorative side. The design features a center piece that invites the individual in. while compressing the space before an abrupt expansion.
The following portraits and landscape aim at understanding shadow and free-line work using graphite on white paper.

The exploration of construction techniques relating to criteria of
permanence, low maintenance, budget requirements, local, state and federal codes
regulating health and safety is an art in itself.M

BUILDING TECHNOLOGY 342 AND 202:
The drawings above are part of a continuing study of materials, systems and the documentation of construction drawing for complex multi-floor buildings.
This ¾” - 1’ section model and its accompanying construction drawings are part of a group effort seeking to understand the construction process for an i-joist framing stucco house featuring a sloped butterfly rood and a curved one-stringer stair. The render image is a personal attempt at visualizing the project in its intended setting.

ACTIVATE UNION STATION DESIGN COMPETITION (FINALIST):
Chicago’s Union Station is an iconic building and a major transportation hub; but it could be so much more: a gathering place for West Loop residents, an attraction for tourists, another cultural jewel in Chicago’s crown. The Metropolitan Planning Council’s Fifth Annual Place-making Contest is awarding the opportunity to breathe new life into Chicago’s Union Station.Using simple materials, this proposal uses the floor of the Great Hall as a giant map, where visitors, commuters and residents alike are invited to mark out the places they have visited during their lifetimes. The novelty of the concept will be in its gradual transformation from blank slate into community drawing board, creating a story of “missed connections” between complete strangers who have traveled to the same places—including Union Station—and never met.

we are all photographers in today’s culture. while we are losing our conbined ability to hand-write, we are adopting a new way of expression. it should be
scrutinized at the same level as hand-writting.
