International sales in practice by Eline Blanchaert

I chose this seminar because I am quite interested in sales and I wanted to know how they were done in real life, so in practice. Despite my enthusiasm for the seminar, I was quite disappointed. Our guest speaker was Eline Blanchaert, who works for the company Klingele, which is a chocolate manufacturer that produces healthy and honest chocolate bars. I thought she would give more real life experiences, but in fact she told us more about the history of the company she was working for. Nevertheless, I thought she was very enthusiastic and I could remain focused. Of course, she receives a bonus point for the chocolate we got after her presentation!

Working and living abroad by Dirk Buyens

Date: December 1, 2015Time: 6.15PMPlace: Kantienberg, Aula 4

The working and living abroad seminar was one of the five that most interested me. I choose the course IBM because I want to live and work in another country, so it was quite obvious to me that I had to choose this seminar. Dirk Buyens was a very enthusiastic speaker and I really liked listening to him because he could keep my attention. I already knew some of the things he told, but one item really surprised me. It was the fact that no one is really interested in your stories when you return. I thought that everyone would just listen to you and keep asking questions but in reality, they only listen for 5 minutes and then you start to bore them. The explanation is actually quite simple. During the time that you are abroad, the lives of the people who stay in Belgium continue and they also had some great experiences. When I reflect more upon this, I have to admit that I agree with this explanation. My aunt travels a lot and when she returns, I am always very interested in her stories but after a while I want to talk about something else.

In that case, I think it is quite handy that all of my friends are going abroad next year, because then you can tell each other stories about your experiences. They will also experience the same feeling when they return and then you can be there for each other.

Ambitieuze Meisjes Ghent: ‘Invest in you!’ by Angelique Foré

Date: December 15, 2015Time: 7PMPlace: Emmy’s, Sint- Pietersnieuwstraat 97, 9000 Gent

MotivationI saw this event passing on my Facebook page and it immediately interested me. In my opinion, it is still not very common that a woman starts her own business or that she is the head of a company. I wanted to know how she did it and what the difficulties were she had to face. For that reason, I choose this event as my personal seminar.

Reflection Angelique Foré is the co-founder of Belmodo, which is a mixture of a magazine and a blog but is also present in the media. This seminar was my favorite one because the subject really appealed to me. In the future, I also would like to have a nice career and maybe start my own company. Angelique was the perfect person to tell about the whole process. She told us about the hard beginning, when the company was set up in her kitchen, but also about the growing process of the company. She also mentioned the struggles of dividing time between work and personal life. Angelique definitely made a positive impression to me because she constantly emphasized the importance of believing in your dreams and yourself.

Applying for a job abroad by Kyra Veldkamp

Date: February 16, 2016

Time: 3PM

Place: Kantienberg, Aula 2

Kyra Veldkamp works for Eures, which is a company/online platform that helps people find jobs across Europe. In my opinion, this seminar was the least interesting of all. I thought that we would get more information about applying for a job abroad and some tips and tricks, but in reality, she only explained the services of the company she is working for. I could not really keep my focus to the presentation.

Next to that, I think it is quite interesting that there exists a platform such as Eures. I had never really heard of it but I like the services that they offer. I think that via this platform, the European job market becomes more available to people.

Cross Generational Marketing by Joeri Van den Bergh

Date: March 1, 2016Time: 3PMPlace: Kantienberg, L03.01

I choose this seminar because the title interested me. Marketing is not really one of my favorite subjects but I wanted to know what was meant by cross generational.

Mister Van den Bergh made the seminar very interacting and that helped to keep my focus on the presentation. He explained a statement and then we had to guess between the right answers. Sometimes the answers really surprised me and I liked it that I learned something from the statements. He showed us how you have to approach the several generations with marketing and I found it remarkable how many differences there can be between two generations. At the end of the seminar, I understood what was meant by cross generational and I also understood the importance and impact of marketing. If you use the wrong marketing strategy, you can loose a lot of customers or target the wrong groups.
