HEAD OF SPORT
Our Wintersport season is well and truly underway. We have had some good results early on so it will be interesting to see how our teams end up at the business end of the competition. Our new jerseys look great and I am pleased to see students wearing them with pride on the sporting field. We are in the process of also getting representative shorts for teams to play in also.
AAC The Senior School Athletics Carnival will take place on Thursday 8th June, 2017. It will be held at Blacktown Olympic Park (Eastern Way) Rooty Hill. Crusaders: This week the Opens are prepping in the gym with their fitness program. The boys have been involved working with a Personal Trainer from The Last Round Gym in Richmond. He has along with an exercise sport scientist and going through a series of tests and technique developments to help prepare them to use the gym as part of their training. The boys have thoroughly engaged with the program and their commitment and enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed. U16s: The 16s trained on Monday afternoon in preparation for next week’s away game versus Colo. A reminder that rugby shorts can be purchased from the uniform shop.
SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT Anglican Schools Corporation Netball: The Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation Netball Gala day was held on Monday 15th of May at Baulkham Hill netball courts in Kellyville.
Arndell’s HZSA netball teams competed against some tough competition from the Corporation. In the Lower Secondary division (Year 7-9) our Intermediate Blue, Intermediate Red and Year 7 teams competed. Our Intermediate Team finished 2nd in their book and the Intermediate Red and Year 7 team both placed 3rd in their pools. In the Senior division (Year 10-12) our Senior Blue and Red teams both placed in the finals series. The teams were placed against one another in the finals series and the Senior Blue team went on to win in the Grand Final. We would like to congratulate all girls on their fair play and achievement. A big thank you to the parents for their eager support and also to our students that umpired and assisted with coaching on the day.
HZSA U15’s Netball: Congratulations to Georgia Messina and Rachel Leechman who represented HZSA at the AICES netball competition on Tuesday 17th of May. HZSA faced some very challenging competition from right across the state and won all but one game during the day. The team is to be congratulated on finishing the competition runners up. The Arndell girls showed perseverance and highly developed talent against some well skilled competition. Rachel was named as shadow in the AICES team which is a great achievement.
CIS U15’s Rugby League: Congratulations to Riley Wilson who has been selected in the squad for this team. He will attend a training camp where the squad will undertake a number of training sessions and a trial match and the side will be reduced to 20 players. This side will go on to compete at the Australian Secondary Schools U/15 National Championships in June, which CIS is the Convening Association.
NSW All Schools Swimming: Harry Thomas represented the School last Friday at SOPAC for All Schools State Swimming in 3 events. We are extremely proud and happy to inform you he has been selected to attend the PSG held every 2 years on this occasion in Adelaide in Dec 3rd-9th 2017. He went through for 2 events the 50m Fly & 50m Back. Just missed in the 100 Fly coming 5th.
Hawkesbury Sportsperson of the Year: Harry Thomas was also nominated for Sportsman of the Year awards for Hawkesbury region. We look forward to following his progress.
Good luck to all our runners who will be at HICES Cross Country tomorrow representing our school.
Congratulations to all our girls who represented Arndell at either the HICES or ASC Netball gala days last week. It was fantastic that we had three students (Lila Horne, Alana Muller and Sophie Mizzi) who were selected in the HICES team to play at the NSWCIS carnival.
