We understand that we must work to preserve the environmental sustainability of the planet, at all levels of ouroperations – in our own practice, as a participant in a community of practice, and as a participant in the globalsocial discourse.

We aspire to minimise our impact on the environment and maximise the effective use of resources. We are striving to achieve this by increasing communication and awareness of our efforts in accordancewith this policy and fostering responsible environmental behaviour amongst staff, and users at all levels.

To demonstrate our commitment to protecting the environment, we have split our actions into 5 parts:

| Energy

| Water

| Raw Materials

| CO Emissions

| Environmental Accreditations

| Energy

The manufacturing processes of paper making consumes a lot of energy, due to the heavy machinery employed, and heat required.

Water Energy

Our mill has tapped into its local energy resource in the form of a nearby water course with a hydroelectric plant, and hydroelectric power is supplied for much of its energy usage, with any surplus electricity being sold to the grid.

Cogeneration

Thanks to the installation of a cogeneration plant (where heat and electricity are generated jointly) our mill has been able to increase the average efficiency of its fossil fuel use to 80% compared with thermal plants which usually have an efficiency of 50%.

Efficient Lighting

The installation of high efficiency lighting throughout the mill has led to a 45% reduction in energy consumption by the factory.

| Water

Water is a critical part of the paper manufacturing process. It is included in the movement of fibres throughoutthe process and in the drying stages.

It is in the environmental interests of our mill to reduce water consumption and to filter and purify it once used to make it suitable for reintegration into the manufacturing process or returning it into the local ecosystem.

Water Management

Our mill has two ways of handling waste water from the manufacturing process. A closed loop water system allows for the reintegration of used water from factory back into the manufacturing process once it is up to a satisfactory quality. It also returns surplus water to its original source once it has been purified to an acceptable standard for the ecosystem. The quality of the water is continuously tested to ensure consistently high environmental integrity.

The water for the mill is also taken from bore wells rather than from the treated mains supply and as such does not impact domestic supply.

| RAW MATERIALS

Our forests are one of our most precious resources because they supply oxygen and absorb greenhouse gases that are the cause of climate change. They’re also home to many indigenous people as well as to the most animal species and plant biodiversity on earth.

With this in mind, our mill only uses FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council), certified cellulose for the production of Senses Paper. The cellulose used in Senses Paper is sourced from Europe and Latin America over against Southeast Asia to ensure sustainability standards are strictly adhered to.

Chemical Reduction

Our mill also limits the use of chemical substances in the manufacturing process that can harm the environment or workers’ health, in compliance with the European regulation, Reach. For example, the cellulose used in the manufacturing process of Senses is not bleached with chlorine, and Senses Sable Black is carbon black free. Additionally, products that contain formaldehyde and ammonia have been removed from the production process.

| CO EMISSIONS

There are a number of emissions which come from our mill’s operations, which can be split into two categories:direct emissions which come from the combustion of fossil fuels to generate energy to run machinery and theco-generation plant; and indirect emissions which come from the emissions produced togenerate electricity which we don’t control directly. However the electricity company monitors and recordsemissions associated with its production activities and has declared its active commitment to reducegreenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Reducing Direct Emissions

Our mill has taken action to reduce its direct emissions through the investment in modern technologies thatsubstitute or optimise the use of fossil fuels. Through Investments such as the hydroelectric and co-generation plants, the mill has limited its carbon footprint despite production growth.

| ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATIONS

EMAS and ISO 14001 Management Systems

Our mill is ISO 14001 certified and demonstrates that it is committed to reducing its environmental impactthrough a series of specific goals with positive environmental outcomes.

The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certification means that our mill has committed to assessingand improving environmental performance of their operations on a regular basis.

OHSAS 18001

Health and safety standards are kept at a high standard through the OHSAS 18001 standard. This sits alongside the ISO 14001 environmental management system, and when operated togetherhave a positive impact on both environmental and occupational health and safety.

FSC®

The internationally recognised Forest Stewardship Council certification is designed to protect forestsacross the globe. It guarantees that raw materials, such as cellulose come from sustainably managed forests. It goes without saying that the cellulose used in the production of Senses Paper is FSC® certified.
