VACATION GIVING As you enjoy the summer vacation, please re-member that parish bills and expenses, unfor-tunately, never take a vacation. If in fact many of our expenses increase during the summer months since during this time increased maintenance and repairs take place. If you are away for certain Sundays during the summer months, we ask you to please make up your Sunday offerings when you return to St. Valen-tine’s. Thank you for thinking of all the needs of your parish and for your continuous support of this parish.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners: In this Sunday’s Gospel from Luke 11: 1-13, the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray as John the Baptist taught his disciples. When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he told his disciples to fol-low Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. So Jesus gives them the Our Father prayer. In this prayer, Jesus brings them closer to God. He reveals to them the intention of God; to make us his children just as Jesus is the Son of God, God adopts us as brothers and sisters with Christ, so that we dare to call God our Father. No other religion refer to their idols as father; they may call their god, master or lord, but not as a family member. But in Christianity, those led by the Spirit are children of God; we received a Spirit of adoption, through which we cry, “Abba, Father.” It is the Holy Spirit which bear united witness with our spirit that we are children of God. We receive the same inheritance as Jesus; as we suffer with Jesus, we are also glorified with Him (Rm 8: 14-17). Jesus teaches us to pray with persistence as if you are asking your neighbor for bread in the middle of the night. How many times people fall into sin in the middle of the night because they did not have Jesus, the Bread of Life. Jesus tells us to ask, to seek and to knock the door of God. If we want God to be our Father, He will give us what is good for us; because our Heavenly Father is a loving Father. But instead, if you prefer to listen to the evil one, if you think that the world can fulfill your desires, then God is not your Father; you have given the fatherhood to the evil one. Let us not be deceived, let us take God as our Father, and learn to trust in Him. Let us cherish the privilege of being His children. - Fr. Basil.
