From our Operations Lead - Terry Brown, First Aid Leads - Janie Bowers and Anita Stewart, Food Leads - Patricia DeLozier and Lois Cross, Referee Desk Lead - Irene Fraties, Event Desk Lead - Dan Fuller, Line Judge Leads - Linda Kallal and Barbara Hudin, and the many members who worked long and hard under these leads, we could not have had success without YOU! We encountered some real setbacks. We lost Internet connection, the printer crashed one day and, if that wasn’t enough, someone decided we needed a little watering. It was a call to action with members grabbing brooms, blowers, and towels in an effort to dry the courts. We had a two hour delay but were still able to complete our last match before dark. I was regularly stopped by players to say how much they enjoyed our event and appreciated all the hard work of our volunteers. Many of them said it was the best-run tournament they had ever been to. I am proud to be part of the Bend Pickleball Club and appreciative of all your efforts. A big applause to all of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Anne Reynolds Tournament Director

THE BEND PICKLEBALL CLUB DID IT AGAIN! Thanks to MANY volunteers, the Pickleball Zone Tournament was a great success!

Page 3: September 2017 News - Bend Pickleball Club€¦ · 9/9/2017  · General tournament volunteers: Kathy Foster kafoster@bendpickleballclub.com GENERAL MEETING BEND PICKLEBALL CLUB THURSDAY,

From a maintenance perspective, it’s nice to have our annual tournament, the Pickleball Zone USAPA Northwest Regional, in the rearview mirror. Yikes! That was a lot of work. There are many, many folks to thank for their help.

Prior to the tournament, court washing was completed by Brian Firebaugh, Neal Peskin, Jim Stone, Elaine Leroy, Greg Pierce, Guy Nuttter and Patti Sanders.

Lee Moore, Scott McIntosh, Mark Gimpl, Brian Firebaugh, Scott Moyer, Dan Fuller and Greg Pierce were busy beavers (I think some are ducks) completing setup with pop-ups, speakers, electrical cords and banner installation. Werner, Jim Stone and a crew of folks transported bleachers from Cascade Indoor Sports. Incidentally, didn’t the courts look great with all the dressing?

Each day of the tourney, Lee Moore would arrive before 5:30 a.m. to help get the courts ready for play. David Dickson took care of blowing off the courts. Greg Pierce was another early bird and provided continuous assistance throughout the course of each day.

A special thanks to Alane Harrold for keeping the water flowing from all our watering jugs. Players also enjoyed spray bottles on each court to help cool them off. We used 58 twenty lb. bags of ice this year. Some was used for food service and beverages at the line judge/referee lounge. David Dickson, Greg Pierce and Scott Moyer helped Alane.

Of course there were dozens of folks to thank for court drying on Sunday morning. Several folks, including Lee Moore and Scott McIntosh, took turns blowing the courts with our Billy Goat blower. Werner ran home to grab a squeegee (Does he have everything?) and dozens of towels that many volunteers used to dry courts.

When it was all over Greg Pierce and Brian Firebaugh gutted the shed and put everything away piece by piece until all was back in place.

A big, BIG thanks to all these folks for a wonderful job well done!

Terry Brown

Director of Operations
