COVID -19 BUILDING PROTOCOL AND CDC GUIDELINES

Tips for Mask Use and Cleaning

With face masks used and required throughout various areas of the United States, it is important to know how to use and maintain your face masks.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made recommendations for the proper use and maintenance of face masks.

    Use of Face Masks

Proper use of face masks starts with when to use them. The CDC recommends that all people 2 years and older wear a face mask when in a public setting and when around people who don’t live in your household.

The exception to using a face mask is:

    • children younger than 2 years of age.

    • anyone who has trouble breathing.

    • anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a mask without assistance.

    • people engaged in activities where the masks may get wet. A wet mask can be difficult to breath through.

    • anyone engaged in high-intensity activities such as running.

    • people working in a setting in which wearing a mask may increase the risk of a heat related illness or cause safety concerns such as mask straps getting caught in machinery.

Along with using face masks, it is also important to wear them correctly.

    • Wash your hands before putting your face mask on.

    • Put it over your nose and mouth and under your chin. Many people uncover their nose and this makes the face mask useless.

    • If you touch your mask, make sure to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.

COVID -19 BUILDING PROTOCOL AND CDC GUIDELINES

    Dear Staff,

Your safety and well-being is a top priority. Back on June 1, 202, we provided staff with plans for a gradual return to the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center. Although the return was delayed several times because of conditions related to Covid-19, we have now begun that return. The Leadership Team has been monitoring conditions and the effectiveness of our cleaning/safety plan as more and more people have returned to their work areas and offices. More details will be discussed at the All Staff meeting on August 7, 2020. Here is a short summary of what has been put into place thus far:

Every Employee/Tenant should ask themselves these questions prior to coming to the Pastoral Center for work:

COVID -19 BUILDING PROTOCOL AND CDC GUIDELINES

    1. If a Central Office Staff Member /Tenant of the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center tests positive for COVID-19:

The Office Director of the positive tested person needs to contact the Human Resources Office immediately upon learning about the positive test results. The Human Resource Director will contact the City of Milwaukee Health Department and make a report.

The staff member must not come to work and needs to self-quarantine. If the staff person was in contact with other staff/office members, it may be best to shut down the office and request that those who were in contact with the infected staff member/tenant be tested and self-quarantine until test results are known. A thorough cleaning of the offices/space that the staff member was in must be completed. Notifying additional staff may be necessary if the staff person had contact with others. Do not release the name of the staff member. The staff person should not return to the pastoral center until a minimum of 14 days and having a negative test. If able, the staff member can work from home.

    2. If a staff member/tenant has a member of their household test positive for COVID-19:

The Office Director of the staff member/tenant must be notified immediately of the situation. The Office Director will inform the Human Resource Office. The staff member must self-quarantine and should be tested for COVID-19. The results may take a few days, so out of an abundance of caution, the staff member should avoid contact with others and work from home until the test results are known. Even after a negative test result, if the staff member continues to live in the same household with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, abundant caution should be used and they should not return to the office for a minimum of 14 days.

    3. If a staff member/tenant has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:

The Office Director of the staff member/tenant must be notified immediately of the situation. The Office Director will inform Human Resource Office. The staff member/tenant

should be tested for COVID-19. The results may take a few days, so out of an abundance of caution, the staff member/tenant self-quarantine until the test results are known. If the staff member/tenant does test positive see instructions in #1 above.

    4. A Visitor of the Pastoral Center later discovers they have tested positive for COVID-19:

The Office Director of the office that welcomed the visitor or vendor to the Pastoral Center will hopefully be contacted by a Contract Tracer; if so, follow their instructions. Let the Human Resource Office know the situation so additional steps can be taken if needed.

If the Office Director finds out about a positive test result from the visitor and not a contact tracer, the Office Director should contact the Human Resource Office, which then will contact the City of Milwaukee Health Department and make a report with the specific date and time the visitor visited the Pastoral Center. Their instructions will be followed.

    5. If a staff member/tenant has been in close contact with someone who is experiencing Covid symptoms and is planning to get tested.

The staff member/tenant needs to inform their supervisor and inform the Human Resource Office. The staff member should stay at home and self-quarantine until they hear the test results of the person who was experiencing symptoms. If the person experiencing symptoms tests positive, then the staff member/tenant should be tested for COVID-19. The results may take a few days, so out of an abundance of caution, the staff member/tenant should continue self-quarantine until the test results are known. If the person experiencing symptoms tests negative, the staff member/tenant can return to work in person.
