Over 30 years ago, Sharon and her mom Patricia, helped a local service club to fundraise by renting Halloween costumes. When the club decided to abandon the idea, the two began their own small business.

The business was built with attention to creativity, personal service, laughter and having fun, while being multi-faceted. The fun side would include; entertainment services providing singing telegrams, children’s entertainment and birthday parties with many of our costumed characters. Our favorite character of the cast would be ShooShoo the clown (aka Sharon), who has had the

best times entertaining children and families in Campbell River.

The costume collection, primarily designed by Patricia, has now grown to over 750 costumes that are rented throughout the year.

We try to help as many causes as we can from providing costumes for the Museum’s historical fashion show, to Shoo Shoo painting faces at the annual Rotary Duck Race.

We simply love what we do, and we are always happy to share the fun!

Campbell River Head Injury Support Society (CRHISS) is a non-profi t charitable organization that has been offering services to brain injury survivors and their families for approximately 15 years.

We also provide community education on head injury causes, effects, and prevention. We serve Campbell River and the North end of Vancouver Island.

Our main objective is to help head injury survivors live productive and prosperous lives and to provide information for them and their families.

Some of the programs and services that we offer are: socialization, life skills, computer training, coping with loss and grief, drop-in programs, facilitated groups, special workshops (memory, anger management, etc), exercise classes, art classes and general health management.

Our biggest project at the moment is the purchase and renovation of the old Hillcrest Store into safe and affordable housing for 4 head injury survivors, room for our meetings and programming and gardens to provide produce for our programs and for the Food Bank.

The Campbell River Hospice Society was formed in 1986 and exists to provide assistance, companionship and compassionate support for those that are palliative or facing end-of-life at home, in an extended care facility or in the hospital.

All services and programs that we provide are free of charge to the people of Campbell River, south to Black Creek, the Islands of Quadra and Cortes, west to Gold River and north to Port Hardy.

Services include: Hospital Visiting Teams; Grief Counselling; Support Groups; a Resource Library and a Memorial Garden located on the Rotary Seawalk.

We have 11 non-paid board members, 4 staff members and approximately 170 members, 59 of which are currently active volunteers.

Tom Pallan was born and raised in Victoria B.C. From an early age Tom was motivated, he had an early morning paper route delivering the Times Colonist and after school Tom sold newspapers on a busy street corner. In 1959 Tom received a Masters of Forestry from Oregon State University and began Pallan Timber Products Ltd. with his father. Together they purchased a timber sale in the McCreight Lake area of Campbell River and commenced logging. Over the past 48 years Tom has learned perseverance, commitment, and hard work as the forest industry has had and continues to have it’s challenging times. Ownership of The Pallan Group of companies is now shared between Tom and his two sons and is involved in many facets of the forestry industry with various sales associates all over

the world. Through perseverance and the ability to adapt quickly to changing economic conditions The Pallan Group of companies has now expanded into timber acquisitions, logging, sawmilling, remanufacturing and world wide timber marketing. The Pallan Group of companies is also involved in land development in the Campbell River area. The Pallan Group of companies are active supporters of The Campbell River Foundation, The Campbell River Hospital Foundation, The Campbell River Museum, and North Island College as well as various other benevolent societies. At North Island College the company has bestowed four scholarships, in perpetuity, in memory of Tom’s son Michael. It has been said that The Pallan Group of companies has had to be very nimble on their feet and the same is still true of Tom Pallan, founder of the Pallan Group of companies.
