OBJECT OF ROTARY

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the: ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD: The application of ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her/ personal, business and community life;

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of service.

Bell Ringers

Tim Carnahan for his mother ’s passing and missed meetings. Troy Bird on behalf of Mike Campbell Troy told Dick Marshall he

had a gift for him from Mike. Dick said he’s known Mike since Mike was 4 and was almost afraid to open the box. Came back up later, said he “had to apologize for his remarks about Mike.” Said Mike was donating $100 to Rotary International in honor of Dick’s 70th birthday.

Jon Pearman celebrated his 4-month-old son’s recent CT scan to determine whether he would require cranium surgery. No surgery needed. The baby is healthy.

Dan Ramos lost a bet to Dick Marshall on the University of Southern California vs. Stanford game.

Everyone, I want to thank all of you for the attendance at last Friday’s meeting. It was especially great to see Tim Carnahan back with us. Unfortunately our program changed at the last minute due to conflicts with the original speaker schedule, but the two young ladies, Sid and Sophia, from Up With People filled in nicely. I also want to thank you for the Celebration contributions that were posted. We had decided to go light on the celebrations/fines for August and September as a recognition for time and work that everyone gave at the 4th of July Fireworks booth and at the Yolo County Fair beer booth. However, we have had many things to celebrate over that past two months with your continued support for Rotary. That is the way to Rotary Up! This week’s guest speaker will be Rear Admiral Doug “Woody” Beal. His presentation “America’s Navy” will provide an overview of our modern Navy, current status of the fleet and why it is important to us here in Sacramento. He is in town for the week so this is a rare opportunity for us to hear from him. Thank you Troy for arranging this. Your response to attend the Fireside Chat on October 4th is really good. We will pass the clipboard around this Friday for anyone who has not signed up and wishes to do so. We will also hold our October Board of Directors meeting prior to the Chat at 4:00 pm. Board members who cannot attend, please forward a short summary of thoughts or plans related to your post or committee. As Will Rogers once said, “Never miss a chance to shut up.” So, I will. Rotary Up, Bill

4 Way Test

Of the Things we Think, Say or Do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all con-cerned?

OPENING REMARKS FROM THE PRESIDENT

Leina Hoyt, invited to the meeting by Assistant District Governor Angela Spease, told the club about the Hope for Hearing Halloween Run at William Land Park. The run begins at 8:00am on October 20th. While it is too late to pre-register (and get a T-shirt); you can register at the event. Leina told the club how her nephew was born profoundly deaf. The Run is raising money for a school for deaf children. To learn more, e-mail Leina at [email protected]. The Board meeting will now take place on October 4th at 4:00 pm, an hour before the Fireside Chat at the Marshall Ranch. The Sacramento Club needs help with its Pony Express Marathon. District 5180 Foundation is offering a seminar October 8th. President Bill has reserved a table for 10 at the “red carpet” Foundation Dinner. So far, Barry Kalar and Sandi Sava, Ken Wilson, Carol Bogart, and President Bill are attending. If interested in attending, see President Bill.
