Dispensation from Mass. We know that this is difficult but during the time of this pandemic, the dispensation of Sunday Mass is given for those who cannot go, and for those advised not to go, to church. Rather, these faithful are invited to read the Word of God and to pray in their homes and to participate in the celebrations of the Mass via TV, radio and/or the Internet.WE WANT YOU TO FEEL SAFE INSIDE YOUR PLACE OF WORSHIP.Please know that before each Mass, every pew, railing, door handle and all bathrooms will have been cleaned and sanitized by a crew of amazing volunteers! Please help them by making sure that you take all of your belongings with you when you leave. Maybe this ‘new normal’ won’t be exactly what we want it to be, but it will be what we need it to be.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN COMING TO MASS• Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to allow the check in process.• In the parking lot, stay safely 6 feet apart.• With your mask on, stop and allow the volunteer to check you in.• At the door, stop and you will be given hand-sanitizer (your hands will be ‘squirted’).• Inside the church, follow the volunteer to your assigned seat.• During Mass, follow all arrows and markings on the floor, so we all stay safely 6 feet apart.• There will be one Lector for all readings• There will be no Altar Servers• You will notice that there are no Missals (bring your own).• You may bring water if you think you will need some.• You will notice that due to air transmission of Covid -19, there are no fans, electric or manual.• During Mass, enjoy the Music Ministry, but for now, no singing in the pews.• We will wish each other the Peace of Christ by nodding, smiling, bowing and waving.• During Communion there is no verbal exchange, simply silence.• Following Mass, to leave the church, please follow the directions of the Hospitality Minister and remember to bring all personal items home with you.• When leaving, respect the safety of keeping the 6 feet between you and your fellow parishioners in the church and when out in the parking lot.• Lastly, although Mass will be 'different', it is still wonderful. It is still Mass, still reverent, still holy!

WEARING MASKS IN THE CHURCH IS MANDATORY

SEASON OF CREATION 2020: Jubilee for the EarthChristians around the world are celebrating the Season of Creation, dedicated to prayer and action to protect our common home. The season is observed annually, and runs from September 1, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and through to October 4, the

Feast of St. Francis, who is the patron saint of ecology in many traditions. The theme of this year’s celebration is Jubilee for the Earth.Excerpt from joint statement issued by the presidents of The Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC):"This year, the COVID-19 pandemic revealed how deeply the globe is interconnected. We realised more than ever that we are not isolated from each other and that conditions related to human health and well-being are fragile. Impact of the pandemic forces us to take seriously the need for vigilance and the need for conditions of sustainable life throughout the earth. This is even more important when considering the environmental devastation and the threat of climate change."H. Em. Card. Angelo Bagnasco, CCEE PresidentRev. Christian Krieger, CEC PresidentAnd everything stopped ... by Pierre Alain LEJEUNE, priest in BordeauxThis world launched like a racing car in its mad race, this world of which we all knew it was running to its ruin but of which no one could find the “emergency stop” button, this gigantic machine was suddenly stopped dead. Because of a very small animal, a very small parasite invisible to the naked eye, a small virus of nothing at all… What an irony! And here we are forced to stop moving and do nothing. But what will happen afterwards? When the world will resume its march; afterwards, when the ugly little beast has been defeated? What will our life be like afterwards? After? Remembering what we will have experienced in this long confinement, we will decide on a day in the week when we will stop working because we will have rediscovered how good it is to stop; a long day to taste the passage of time and the others around us. And we'll call it Sunday. After? Those who will live under the same roof will spend at least 3 evenings a week together, playing, talking, taking care of each other and also phoning grandpa who lives alone on the other side of town or cousins who are far away. And we'll call it the family. After? We will write in the Constitution that we cannot buy everything, that we must differentiate between need and whim, between desire and lust; that a tree needs time to grow and that time taking its time is a good thing. That man has never been and never will be all-powerful and that this limit, this fragility inscribed in the depths of his being is a blessing since it is the condition of possibility of all love. And we'll call it wisdom. After? We will applaud every day, not only the medical staff at 8:00 p.m. but also the garbage collectors at 6:00 a.m., the postmen at 7:00 a.m., the bakers at 8:00 a.m.,

Page 8: September.docx  · Web viewSAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH SEPTEMBER 20TH BULLETIN, 2020. 844 Notre Dame Avenue, St Lambert, QC, J4R 1R8. TEL: (450) 671-6149 FAX: (450) 671-6792.

the bus drivers at 9:00 a.m., the elected at 10:00 a.m. and so on. Yes, I have written the elected officials, because in this long crossing of the desert, we will have rediscovered the meaning of the service of the State, of dedication and of the Common Good. We will applaud all those who, in one way or another, are at the service of their neighbor. And we'll call it gratitude. After? We will decide not to get excited in the queue in front of the stores anymore and to take advantage of this time to talk to people who like us are waiting their turn. Because we will have rediscovered that time does not belong to us; that the One who gave it to us did not make us pay anything and that decidedly, no, time is not money! Time is a gift to be received and every minute a gift to be tasted. And we'll call it patience. After? We can decide to transform all the WhatsApp groups created between neighbors during this long ordeal, into real groups, of shared dinners, of exchanged news, of mutual aid to go shopping or bring the children to school. And we'll call it brotherhood. After? We will laugh as we think about before, when we fell into slavery to a financial machine that we ourselves created, that despotic grip crushing human lives and wreaking havoc on the planet. Afterwards, we will put man back at the center of everything because no life deserves to be sacrificed in the name of any system, whatever it is. And we'll call it justice. After? We will remember that this virus was transmitted between us regardless of skin color, culture, income level or religion. Simply because we all belong to the human species. Simply because we are human. And from this we will have learned that if we can transmit the worst to ourselves, we can also transmit the best to ourselves. Simply because we are human. And we'll call it humanity. After? In our homes, in our families, there will be many empty chairs and we will mourn those who never see this after. But what we will have lived will have been so painful and so intense at the same time that we will have discovered this bond between us, this communion stronger than the geographical distance. And we will know that this link which plays with space, also plays with time; let this link pass death. And this bond between us that unites this side and the other of the street, this side and the other of death, this side and the other of life, we'll call it God.After? After that it will be different from before, but to live this after, we have to go through the present. We must consent to this other death that is playing out within us, this death much more trying than physical death. For there is no resurrection without passion, no life without passing through death, no true peace without having conquered one's own hatred, nor joy without having gone through sadness. And to say that, to say this slow transformation of us which is accomplished in the heart of the ordeal, this long gestation of ourselves, to say that, there is no word.

LIVING FROM THE DEPTHS: UNLOCKING THE MESSIAH TRAPThis weekend workshop (October 16-18) Jeannie Albert and Cathie Macaulay, will explore the how we find balance in our busy lives as we lead lives of service to others.Based on the popular Messiah Trap workshop, it is an opportunity to plunge deeper (or discover for the first time) the common styles of being a “messiah” and how we can become more aware of unhealthy patterns in our helping relationships. Guided by the wisdom of Ignatian spirituality and discernment, it is an opportunity to plunge deeper into this dynamic for further awareness, healing, and freedom. The weekend retreat

LET'S ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS TOGETHER THIS SEPTEMBER!

September is Climate Action Month at KAIROSResiliency and hope are the driving messages of the second annual KAIROS Climate Action Month, which began on September 1. Each day this month, KAIROS will highlight an aspect of the climate crisis, sharing resources, events, stories from our members and global partners, and actions for climate justice. An online calendar will focus on five weekly themes: Season of Creation, Just Transition, Indigenous Rights, Global Climate Justice, and Water. Interested in receiving informative weekly e-blasts during Climate Action Month? Please visit our online sign up form (https://secure.kairoscanada.org/civicrm/profile/create?gid=58&reset=1) and click Ecological Justice.Climate Action Month includes a #30DayChallenge intended to motivate and inspire a daily practice of taking action for the climate. Participants are encouraged to track and share their actions on social media, using the hashtags: #KAIROSClimateAction and #30DayKAIROSChallenge.KAIROS began Climate Action Month in 2019 to galvanize awareness and action after a series of alarming and urgent UN special reports on the climate crisis and impacts on vulnerable communities, including women and Indigenous peoples. On each day in September, KAIROS will post about a topic related to climate change centered around weekly themes, with supporting resources to learn more including reports, videos, theological reflection, events and more. The posts will highlight the work of KAIROS members churches, feature stories from its global partners and showcase communities that are taking concrete steps to halt the climate emergency. This KAIROS initiative is intended to further reconciliation by encouraging discussion and reflection on how climate change and Indigenous issues are deeply interwoven. KAIROS’ climate action is rooted in reconciliation and this initiative is intended to amplify and prioritize Indigenous voices.Print your copy of the KAIROS Climate Change Action Card:

What is the “Season of Creation”?Every year, from September 1st to October 4th, churches are called to participate in the “Season of Creation”. The World Council of Churches has been promoting this theme since 2008. This special time of year has gained popularity in Europe, and the United Church of Canada was the first to celebrate it here in Canada. Since 2017, all churches in Canada are invited to celebrate the “Season of Creation” in their faith community. The Green Churches Network is happy to offer a “box” of resources designed to make creation care more relevant and “doable” for your church. Why September 1st to October 4th?In 1989, Demetrios I, Patriarch of Constantinople decided to dedicate the first day of the Orthodox liturgical year (September 1) to the protection of the environment. He then invited the whole Christian world to join in so that “every year on this day, we raise prayers of thanks for the great gift of the created world, prayers of supplication for its protection and salvation”. In 2015, Pope Francis named September 1st the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

October 4th is the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is the patron saint of ecology in the Catholic tradition since 1979. He is a model of integral ecology, demonstrating that the love for the poor, the sick and for all creatures comes from the same Source. What to do during the “Season of Creation”?We invite Christian communities to organize various activities on the theme of Creation Care between September 1st and October 4th: prayer services, intergenerational activities, conferences, activities for children and young people, fund raising, etc.The Green Churches Network has created the “Season of Creation in a Box” to help inspire educational, action-centered and spirituality-themed activities in your faith community. Have fun!The 2020 Season of Creation Toolkit is now available to download! https://greenchurches.ca/season-of-creation/?ct=t%28Newsletter+-+August+2020%29

SACRED SPACE COVID-19 ‘ISOLATION’ RETREAT AND DAILY PRAYER ONLINEBrendan McManus SJ and Jim Deeds have written a 14 day ‘Isolation’ retreat specifically for Sacred Space during this Coronavirus crisis. Using meditations from their two books, Finding God in the Mess and Deeper into the Mess, they have shaped a 14 day retreat around themes loosely based on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius. Each day has a specific theme, a preparatory prayer, an introduction to the themes, three related scripture quotes, some questions for reflection and a closing prayer. People can use this resource in a number of ways:• follow the programme for the 14 days;• dip into the themes that speak to you, for example the meditation on fear;• or use the meditations as daily prayer. It can be used in any of these ways to get reassurance that God is with you during this difficult time, to deepen your prayer life or to provide a safe space away from worry and anxiety.https://www.sacredspace.ie/covid-19-isolation-retreathttps://www.sacredspace.ie
