back into it‟s newly renovated building-no skills needed! All ages welcome! A
great family opportunity for service. For details contact Larry Kirby.
Lunch provided! Lorraine Him ([email protected]) is coordinating this
effort. Sandwiches, cold drinks, bottled water & delivery service to the building
site are needed. Can you help?

Another IHN Week is coming...With summer and vacations coming, please
remember that we will be housing the IHN families again the week of August 7th
through August 14th. Start thinking about what you can do to help. We would
appreciate each adult Sunday School Class picking one night to prepare and serve
a meal. Also, check your calendars to see if you would be able to spend one night
as an overnight host; we will need two people to stay each night, for a total of
seven nights. We will also need some people to help set up after church on
August 7th, and to help take down beds, and load the trailer early on August
14th so we can deliver it to the next church. We appreciate all you have done,
and are going to do! Please call Julia Martin with any questions.
A New Opportunity!...The Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults is in
ongoing need of individual sized portions of soaps, shampoos, toiletries for their
Family Violence Shelter & Sexual Assault Center. Grab those “mini” sizes from
shopping or hotel visits & deposit them in the Partnership box in the lobby
Donation Center.
From Skip Brannen...I would like to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers
and cards concerning my recent surgery. I can‟t tell you how much your support
meant to me. I am well on the road to recovery, and you get a lot of the credit!
Brown Academy Teachers & Staff...need Love Too! FCC’s Staff
Appreciation Committee needs a Team Leader for this Fall. Many plans are already in
place, just need a volunteer to make them happen! Contact [email protected].
Save the Date-July 24...Fellowship Luncheon. Features Scrappy‟s famous
homemade bar-b-que! After worship, join your Outreach Committee for a Picnic
on the Grounds! (indoors). Lunch proceeds to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
Special Guest, Dawn Hjelseth, Volunteer Co-ordinator for Habitat will join us for
the fun! RSVP not required, but appreciated-to church office.
From Ruth Wells...Belatedly, I want to thank all of you for your prayers,
cards and calls when I was in the hospital this Spring. I‟m feeling fine now,
although my voice isn‟t back to normal.
“On-Call Elders”...are a new addition to our Bridge and Bulletin! Each week, a
pair of Elders will be listed in the “Servants in Worship” as being “On Call.” These
Elders will be available to be called in case of sickness, hospitalization, death, or
other pressing need. Of course, you may always call Pastor Paul, but there may be
times when he is out of town, and cannot be reached.
On Thursday, June 23ed at 7:30PM...the UTC Master Chorale will
perform a free concert at Second Presbyterian Church. The Master Chorale is a
chorus of roughly forty members comprised of UTC graduate music students and
talented singers from throughout the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas who
come together once a year for a six-week rehearsal run culminating in a
concert. The director is Dr. Kevin Ford, UTC Director of Choral Activities and the
organist is David Friberg, organist of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian
Church. Graduate conducting students serving as assistant conductors this summer
are Brian Harris, Timothy Sunday, Sarah Tullock and Denise Adeniyi. Church
members Robert Sauser and Alan Voss sing with this chorus. The concert is free,
and all are invited.
The concert will begin with the triumphant “God is Gone Up” by British composer
Gerald Finzi. The English Renaissance composer Thomas Tallis‟ ”O Nata Lux” will
begin an early music set including pieces by Portuguese composer Estêvão de Brito,
German composer J. S. Bach and Czech composer Albin Maschek. David Friberg
will play the beautiful “Fiat Lux” of French composer Théodore Dubois on Second
Presbyterian‟s Möller pipe organ. Another musical highlight will be the
performance of “Holy Radiant Light” by Russian composer Alexander
Gretchaninoff immediately followed by Alexander Kopylov‟s “Svete thiy” or
“Gladsome Light.” These will be followed by Josef Rheinberger‟s beautiful
“Abendleid” and Johannes Brahms‟ “Waldesnacht.”
The final set of music will include works by American composers. The close
harmony and ethereal sounds of Frank Tacheli‟s “Earthsong” and Eric Whitacre‟s
“Lux Aurumque” will proceed a setting of “Black is the Color of My True Loves
Hair” by Theron Kirk and the concluding “Rise Shine for the Light is „a-coming” by
Chattanooga Composer and UTC‟s Holmberg Professor of American Music,
Roland M. Carter.
Soloists for the evening will be tenor Harv Wileman and sopranos Sarah
Marczynski and Gretchen Potts.
Belief is truth held in the mind;
Faith is a fire in the heart.
-Joseph Fort Newton
WELCOME! Today is the gateway to another
week. We join together here to thank God for
a new week of promise and possibilities. Let us
welcome the opportunity of worship, as we
prepare ourselves to be God‟s people in God‟s
world.
