Learning Opportunities at RJC Over the next several weeks, we will

highlight one of the many learning opportunities available at the RJC.

THIS WEEK

Daf Yomi: Kove’ah Ittim LaTorah

The RJC is proud to be home to many

shiurim, but the only daily shiur is the Daf Yomi. What started as a chavrusa

over in 1994 - and had an end time to get kids off to the school bus - has

now grown to, at times, over 20 peo-ple studying together. We are now

learning Baba Batra, regarding the

laws of gifts & inheritance. In a few weeks, we will begin Tractate Sanhed-

rin - an excellent opportunity to join! All are welcome! For more details,

please see page 2!

Riverdale Jewish Center for Learning

Daf Yomi: Kove’ah Ittim LaTorah

The idea for setting aside daily time for learning goes back to God’s

charge to Joshua “V’hageta bo yomam v’layla.” Torah should occupy

one’s attention day and night (Joshua ch 1). The Talmud in Shabbat 31a

states a person will be asked six questions when one dies. One of them:

Kove'ah Ittim LaTorah? Did you set aside time for learning? Over time

different schedules were made for studying. The first cycle of Daf Yomi

commenced on the first day of Rosh Hashanah 5684 (11 September

1923). We are proud to join those who learn a page of the Babylonian Tal-

mud each day, completing it in 2,711 days.

Every person who comes to the Daf at The RJC makes a contribution

and we are lucky to have so many people who bring different areas of ex-

pertise to the table, as the Talmud covers so much. Our guide, leader and

teacher is David Quint whose commitment to the integrity of each daf is

inspiring to all. David is a master teacher in the fundamentals of the give

and take of the Talmud, as well as the details & nuances of every opinion.

Shabbat Hashkamah Shiur - 30 Minutes after Minyan

After the Hashkama Minyan Kiddush, please join us for our weekly shiur. This week, Rabbi Charles Sheer will present on the topic of “Dor Ha-Midbar and

the Biblical Concept of Justice”.
