OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark
Without presumption or righteousness, this weekend’s feasts (All Saints & Souls) are our very own. It is not a question of believing this: it is a choice of living it! It is coming full circle in our lives of faith, hope and love by our perseverance in striving to be faithful to our “Yes”, repentant for our “No” and resilient in sincerely trying, time after time, to be a true daughter or son of God. The readings are full and rich of all the ingredients that go into our participation in building God’s kingdom, begun is us, by our efforts to do God’s will in loving God, each other and all others. It means we understand the “who is my neighbor?” question is asked only by those who seek justification for limiting their gift of loving to “me and mine.” Regardless of how large one’s me and mine is, it ever sets a limit and those excluded by our discrimination, prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, bias and arrogance in finding our security in the justifications of self-righteousness, a blindness which extends to every religion, culture , race, gender, sexual preference, class and position. The truth hurts, but it also sets us free if we have the courage and integrity to acknowledge it. God’s truth dies often in the pages of Scripture. Its’ paramount, incomprehensible expression is found on the Cross. And the Cross continues to happen today, everywhere and in anyone who avoids the truth. God knows human nature. The hope-filled message of God’s promise to the human family is a source of strength for us to bear with and endure the struggle each day, to be a person of faith, hope and love, which are the true and only way to peace, justice, harmony and unity. It is the only way violence ceases, wounds heal, health is restored and sanity prevails. It still remains a personal choice, private and secret. It is revealed by the way we live it. It will contain inner peace and joy, hardships and suffering, joy and sadness, success and failure. IT is the way these feast days have been realized by people throughout all time! A blessed and peace-filled Feast day to you!
