ETHIOPIA PM THANKS EGYPT FOR FREEING LIBYA-HELD CITIZENS

Hailemariam made a phone

call with President Abdel-

Fattah al-Sisi during which

expressed "gratitude" for

Egyptian efforts to free

Ethiopians in Libya.

(08.05.2015 – WIC)

Ethiopian Prime Minister

Hailemariam Desalegn on

Thursday thanked Egypt for

rescuing Ethiopian nationals

held in Libya, the Egyptian

presidency has said.

It said in a statement that

Hailemariam made a phone call

with President Abdel-Fattah al-

Sisi during which expressed

"gratitude" for Egyptian efforts

to free Ethiopians in Libya.

According to the statement, the

Ethiopian premier said he was

looking forward to v isiting

Egypt in June to attend a

summit of the Common Market

for Eastern and Southern Africa

(COMESA), which will be held

in the Egyptian resort city of

Sharm el-Sheikh.

Al-Sisi, meanwhile, said that

both Egyptians and Ethiopians

had a common fate.

Earlier Thursday, television

footage showed the Egyptian

President shaking hands with

Ethiopian nationals who arrived

at Cairo Airport on board of an

Egyptian plane.

At the airport, al-Sisi said his

country would continue to offer

help to its African sister states.

"We want to send the message

to our Ethiopian brothers that

they can count on us," al-Sisi

told the media.

Al-Sisi added that the Ethiopian

nationals who arrived in Egypt

on Thursday were only the first

group of other nationals freed

by Egypt after being held in

Libya. (Anadolu Agency)

ETHIOPIA WILL CONSOLIDATE EVACUATION EFFORTS: MOFA

The Ministry of Foreign

Affairs (MoFA) said that

Ethiopia will consolidate its

efforts of evacuating its

national from Libya.

(07.05.2015 – WIC)

“Some 11 Ethiopian evacuees

have arrived in Addis Ababa

yesterday and the government

will continue transporting those

who want to return to their

country,” Tewolde Mulugeta,

Spokesperson at MoFA, told

journalists today.

According to Tewolde, a total

of 640 Ethiopians have

registered through Ethiopian

embassies in Egypt and Sudan

to return to their home from

Libya.

He said Foreign Affairs Minister

Dr Tedros Adhanom has

travelled to Cairo, Egypt early

this week to discuss and

facilitate the return of

Ethiopians from that country.

The government will also

continue to bring back

Ethiopians from Yemen and

South Africa. Hundreds of

Ethiopians have already

returned from both countries

recently, he noted.

In his press briefing, the

Spokesperson said Ethiopia is

ready to successfully host the

3rd International Conference

on Financing for Development,

scheduled to take place from

13 to 16 July 2015.

The country will showcase its

broad based and inclusive

development at the Conference

expected to attract over 5,000

participants from all over the

world, he said.

He further said that Ethiopian

public diplomacy team

comprising of scholars,

government officials, religious

leaders and prominent figures

will travel to Sudan tomorrow.

In its five-day visit, the team

has an assignment of

expressing Ethiopia’s stand on

the Renaissance Dam and

CIRCUM PROVES UP MAJOR WORLD CLASS 4.2B TONNES POTASH PROJECT IN

ETHIOPIA

The Chairman and Co-

founder of Circum Minerals

Ltd. ("Circum" or the

"Company") Stephen

Dattels, today announces

that: "Circum has proven

up a major world-class

potash project in the

Danakil Basin in Ethiopia.

(07.05.2015 – WIC)

Given its location on the

doorstep of the Asian Markets

this discovery has the potential

to dramatically change the

dynamics of the potash

industry and become a future

source of significant supply of

potash."

Circum owns a 100% interest

in an exploration license

encompassing 365 square

k ilometers in the Danakil Basin

in North-Eastern Ethiopia (the

"Danakil Project").

The Company acquired the

rights to the deposit in 2013

and has been privately

financed to date with total

equity raised of some US$50

million inclusive of share

issuances for acquisition costs

and service agreements.

As well as the founders,

Stephen Dattels and Mike Beck,

the Company's shareholders

include Plinian Capital Limited

(which also is the operator),

led by former BHP Senior

Executive, Brad Mills, and

African Minerals Exploration &

Development Fund II SICAR

("AMED"), an African focused

natural resources private equity

group.

Circum is currently in the

process of completing a private

placing of approximately US$30

million through Smith &

Williamson Corporate Finance

Limited, a UK based specialist

investment bank and advisory

group, to fund optimization of

the Phase 1 Definitive

Feasibility Study (DFS) (2.75

million tonnes of annual

production), costs to convert

its exploration license to an

exploitation license, a Phase 2

scoping study for an additional

2-3 million tonnes of annual

production and value-adding

engineering studies taking the

Company's work program

through to the end of 2016.

Furthermore, the Company is

in the process of engaging a

major international investment

bank to provide strategic

advice on the options to be

pursued to develop and

maximize the value of this

game changing potash industry

asset.

Brad Mills explained that:

"Circum's Danakil Potash

Project, which is located just

600 km's from the major port

facility of Tadjoura, Djibouti on

the Indian Ocean, is expected

to be one of the world's largest

and potentially lowest cost

potash deposits. The current NI

43-101 compliant Mineral

Resource Estimate, which has

tested about 35% of the

license area to a depth of 400

meters, consists of 2.6 billion

tonnes of Measured and

Indicated material grading, on

average, 19.2% KCl (the

average of the Sylv inite layer,

Upper and Lower Carnallite

layers and the lower Kainitite

Page 7: SERVIZIO NEWS 08.05 - Esteri...13 to 16 July 2015. The country will showcase its broad based and inclusive development at the Conference expected to attract over 5,000 participants

7

layer) and 1.6 billion tonnes of

Inferred material grading on

average 17.1% KCl. The

geologic estimate of the

endowment of the remaining

65% of the project area is an

additional 7-9 billion tonnes to

a depth of approximately 800

meters. With a total geologic

endowment projected in the

range of 11-13+ billion tonnes

of potash rich mineral salts,

Circum's Project in the Danakil

Basin of North-Eastern Ethiopia

will be one of the world's best

and largest undeveloped

potash mineral deposits. Its

uniquely shallow depths and

multiple bed lithology lend

themselves to the development

of a large scale, exceptionally

low capital and low operating

cost in-situ leaching and solar

evaporation process well suited

for the area, given

temperatures on site that

average 40 degrees Celsius

year round."

The DFS for Phase 1 of the

Project is scheduled for

completion in July 2015. The

Phase 1 Project Plan is to

produce 2 million tonnes per

annum of muriate of potash

("MOP") and 0.75 million

tonnes per annum of sulphate

of potash ("SOP"). With

estimated lowest quartile

operating costs and capital

intensity of approximately half

of that of existing major

producers in Russia and

Canada, Circum will be an

extremely competitive

producer. When added to its

substantial transportation

advantages to India, South

East Asia and South China,

Circum is poised to become

one of the suppliers of choice

for all countries close to the

Indian Ocean and South China

Sea. Beyond Phase 1, Circum

envisions that its resources are

sufficient to support at least

two and possibly three

production expansions of

similar size giv ing it the

ultimate capacity to meet a

significant amount of the

demand for MOP and SOP in

this, its natural marketing

region.

With a population of 4 billion in

its target market and a market

that is leading the world as the

fastest in terms of GDP growth

per capita, Circum has the right

deposit in the right location to

be a fundamental underpin for

sustaining this growth over the

long term. (prnewswire.com)

ETHIOPIAN GOVERNMENT TO RESUME TEFF EXPORTS BY NEXT BUDGET YEAR

Ethiopia is to resume

export of Teff flour in the

coming budget year after

the ban set by the

government in 2006, Addis

Fortune reported.

(07.05.2015 – 2Merkato)

The export resume is targeted

at utilizing the comparative

advantage of Ethiopia in the

national market as a result of

the special flavor and taste of

the Teff it produces according

to Khalid Bomba (PhD), the

Ethiopian Agricultural

Transformation Agency’s Chief

Executive Officer (CEO).

“We will be implementing it in

two major ways; the first is we

will not export raw grain and

secondly, we will ensure that

we will not affect the domestic

supply of the product in the

country,” Khalid stressed.

6,000 hectares of land will be

cultivated for 2015/16 budget

year exclusively for Teff export

and 20 to 30 quintals of Teff a

hectare is expected.

Ethiopia’s Teff production for

2013/14 fiscal year was 44.2

million quintals and the

cultivated land was three

million hectares, according to

the Central Statistical Agency

(CSA) Agricultural Sample

Survey Report on Area of

Production of Major Crops.

Commercial farmers will

commence exporting Teff and

smallholder farmers will be able

to export in the future, said

Khalid.

Currently, the export of Teff,

except in the form of Injera is

prohibited and the new

initiative will direct to other

ways of exporting such as

milling the grain and packaging

it.

The Ethiopian government has

put a ban on Teff exports

because of the price hike,

according to the January 2013

Food & Agriculture

Organization’s (FAO),

Monitoring African Food and

Agricultural Policies Report on

Analysis of Incentives and

Disincentives for Teff in

Ethiopia.

“The Teff that will be exported

from Ethiopia will be tagged

‘Ethiopian Teff’ and companies

can put their own signs in

addition to that,” Khalid said.

“All processes from the access

to land to the time of export

will be monitored by the

government; the moisture

content and the existence of

any impurities will be checked,”

said Sileshi Getahun, State

Minister of Agriculture.

SOUTH SUDA N

UN SAYS OVER 500 DISPLACED PEOPLE ARRIVE IN UNITY STATE

The United Nation mission

in South Sudan (UNMISS)

said over 500 displaced

people have arrived at its

protection of civilians site

in the Unity state capital,

Bentiu since 3 May.

(07.05.2015 –

SudanTribune)

Most of them, the UN said,

came from Guit county and the

area of Nhialdiu in Rubkona

county, where heavy fighting

reportedly took place between

pro-government Sudan

People’s Liberation Army

(SPLA) troops and the armed

opposition forces.

This new influx of displaced

people reportedly brings to

53,000 the total number of

civ ilians protected at the

UNMISS site in Bentiu.

Meanwhile UNMISS said it was

aware of reports that SPLA

forces have gained control of

Nhialdiu territory and Guit

county that has been under the

control of the armed opposition

forces for some time, but was

unable to independently verify

these reports.

The mission also expressed

concerns that its patrols in

Bentiu face movement

restrictions impeding

monitoring and protection

activ ities outside the

protections site.

Tens of thousands of people

have been killed and nearly

two million displaced since the

outbreak of v iolent conflict in

South Sudan in mid-December

2013.

DJIBOUTI

DJIBOUTI TO CREATE NATIONAL AIRLINE

The first objective for the

creation of this national

carrier is to have an

indispensable tool for

international influence and

promotion of our country’s

visibility,” Djibouti’s

Foreign Minister Mahmoud

Ali Youssouf said in a press

statement.

He explained that the project’s

second objective is economic

growth and development of air

traffic.

“Creation of this new national

airline will on one hand lead to

the creation of over 750 jobs

and on the other, make

Djibouti International Airport a

regional hub in air transport,”

he said.

Youssouf said the adoption of

the project will enable Djibouti

to have a tool for implementing

its transport and job creation

policies as well as diversify its

sources of revenue.
