Rugby  NewsAbu  Dhabi  Under  16’s  Rugby

Sharjah  English  School’s  Under   16  boys  went   to  Abu  Dhabi  to  play   in  the  BSAK  10’s  rugby   tournament.   (The  BriDsh  School  Al  Khubairat).  This  was  the  first  ouDng  for  the  SES  team,  and  although  they  only  won  1  of  their  4  matches,  they  disDnguished  themselves  against  seasoned  teams.  Playing  resiliently   against  some  of  UAE’s  top  rugby   schools,  JC,  DESC  and  BSAK,  Sharjah  English  showed  a  level  of  aggression  and  determinaDon  that  made  other  teams  take  noDce.

Sharjah  scored  2   excellent  tries  during  the  day.  One  scored  by   Toby  Oakeley   against   JC   involved     running  the  whole  length  of  the  pitch  to  score  and  another  by  Anton  Briones  was  a  fantasDc  try  against  DESC,  with  Anton  running  straight  through  the  opposiDon.

Sharjah  made  it   into  the  bowl  final  for   the  Under   16’s  and  went  on  to  win,  beaDng  Cambridge  College  with  Calum  Reynolds  scoring  2   tries  but   being  pushed  out   just   in  front  of   the  touch  line  going   for  his  third.   Toby  Oakeley   also  complimented  the  score  line  by  scoring  2  tries.  The  aStude  of  the  players  was  very  good  -‐  they  kept  their  heads  up  and  kept  on  playing  with  100%  effort.  This  was  evident  when  Jay  Robinson  managed  to  rip  3  pairs  of  shorts  throughout  the  tournament!

Football  NewsSharjah  English  School  vs  American  University  of  Sharjah

The  team:  Sanil,  ScoY,  Patrick,  Hadyn,  Tom,  Jay,  Cian,  Kris(c),  Ollie,  MaY,  Mikolay

The  subs:  Aaron,  Faisal,  Adam

Man  of  the  match:  Sanil

Sanil  had  an  amazing  game  and  made  several  great  game-‐saving  shots  and  made  a  lot  of  good  goal  keeping  decisions.  Well  done,  Sanil.

First  half:  Right  from  the  start  SES  played  well,  and  from  a  long  passing  move  we  got  an  early   and  well  deserved  goal  from  Jay.  Later  on  in  the  match  a`er  good  solid  defending  by  both  teams  came  a  second  goal  by  Mikolay.  One  small  gap  in  the  defence  and  midfield  made  room  for  AUS  to  squeeze  through  to  slot  one  past  the  goal  keeper.  With  our  heads  sDll  high  we  got  one  more  goal  just  before  the  half  Dme  whistle,  again  by  Jay.  Half  Dme  score  3-‐1

Second  half:  The  second  half   saw  all  three  subs  on,  Adam,  Aaron  and  Faisal.  No  goals  through  most  of   the  half  but  5  minutes  before  the  full  Dme  whistle  was  expected  came  an  injury  for  Jay  landing  on  his  wrist.  With  Jay  off   there  was  a  gap  in  the  defence.  From  a  quick  pass  and  a  3  man  defence  to  aYack  against,  AUS  ran  forward  to  roll  one  into  the  net.  SDll  SES  was  in  the  lead  by  one  and  needed  to  play  it  safe  and  make  sure  no  goals  were  conceded.  And  we  did  just  that.  We  went  home  with  a  great  3-‐2  win.  Well  done  lads.

U14  Sharjah  English  School  3  –  0  Victoria  English  School

Sharjah  English  School  produced  a  very  good  display  of  football  to  win  3-‐0  against  Victoria  English  School.  The  first  half  saw  some  good  ball  movement  as  SES  maintained  their  structure  and  passed  while  keeping  posiDon.  VES  were  difficult  to  penetrate  as  they  successfully  defended  their  goal  area.  SES  had  3  clear  chances  to  take  the  lead  with  all  3  being  missed  from  point  blank  range.    At  half  Dme  it  finished  0-‐0.

Within  the  first  minute   captain  and  man-‐of-‐the  –match  Kriss  Bailey   quickly   pressurised  the  VES  midfield,  winning  the  ball  and  puSng  a  cross  deep  into  the  goal  area.  Centre  forward  Mikolay  produced  an  amazing  diving  header  to  hit  the  cross  bar  before  Jay  Robinson  volleyed  the  ball  into  the  back  of  the  net.  It  wasn’t  long  before  another  goal  came  from  the  in  from  Kriss  Bailey  who  dominated  midfield  and  again  volleyed  in  the  ball  from  a  Faisal  Al-‐Qassimi  cross  .  The  third  goal  was  well  worked  from  defender  ScoY  Hughes  sending  the  ball  down  the  le`  wing  releasing  Cian  Sidey  to  score  a  one  on  one  with  the  keeper.

A  great  a`ernoon  of  football,  improved  footballing  skills  and  belief  now  puts  SES  towards  the  top  of  the  EISSA  football  league.

SES  vs  Raf)les

A  great  result  for  the  girls  on  their  )irst  competitive  game  of  the  season  against  Raf)les.    With  some  very  accurate  shooting  from  both  Eloise  and  Kopano,  between  the  two  they  managed  to  score  a  total  of  17  points,  and  later  Eloise  was  awarded  player  of  the  match.    It  was  a  complete  team  effort  from  all  the  girls  as  they  showed  great  strength  and  combined  teamwork  to  walk  away  with  such  a  successful  win.

Swimming  NewsSES STORM THE ‘C’ LEAGUE SWIM FINALS

The Dubai C League swim finals were at Raffles School, situated under the shadow of the Burj Al Arab, this month. With five schools in contention for the trophy, Sharjah English walked away as Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 winners as well as the being the overall school champions.

From the start, SES were fully focused on their events, consistently finishing in the top 3 positions. Sharjah won 23 races out of the 51 at the event, but the race of the day came in the final event: the squadron relay. This is where 1 girl and 1 boy from each year group together compete in a freestyle relay. Sharjah English School made a good start coming in 3rd on the first leg. Lap after lap SES were crawling back the lead and with 3 lengths to go struck the lead and held on to win by a good distance.

The whole school team and the swim squad have been a credit to the school. The standards of swimming are certainly improving. The future prospects are exciting with excellent potential and great talent within the squad. The target is to continue improving aiming to make the ‘B’ League finals next year.
