Shannondell residents admit that it is more relaxing to welcome the fall season when you’re no longer worried about raking leaves, cleaning out gutters and readying homes for snow and ice.

It’s also more enjoyable when the cooling weather brings not only Eagles football and the World Series to big screens in the Ashcroft and Bradford clubhouses, but also a bounty of new classes, movies, activities and performances at Shannondell.

In the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater, alone, residents can choose from 40 upcoming productions. In September, we welcome back Baritone John Anker Bow. Anna Marie Ahn Petersen (Piasecki Family Chair with the Philadelphia Orchestra) returns in October. November brings the musical comedy The Producers, a production of Methacton Community Theater. The season concludes in December with 10 holiday concerts, including our very own Shannondell Singers.

Two seasonal openings in the Shannondell Art Gallery feature a resident multi-media show with local artist Margaret Thompson also exhibiting. Dr. Phillips continues his fascinating classes on Ancient Egypt and October offers an intriguing topic – women patriots of the Revolution taught by Don Applestein.

All proof that life at Shannondell any time of the year is, indeed, very cool.

This engaging week-long program promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthier lifestyle. It also highlights the ability of senior adults to live well, regardless of age or health conditions.

Residents will be issued (no need to apply) an AAW “Activity Passport.” Your passport is your ticket to fun and adventuresome activities taking place throughout the Shannondell community. Highlights include a scavenger hunt, resident talent showcase and luau-theme pool party. Other events focus on wellness such as special fitness classes and interactive seminars led by Shannondell wellness nurses.

Intellectual stimulation includes: a lecture and recital (piano) by Debra Lew Harder in the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater, a lecture on US Foreign Policy with Dr. Greg Ferro and a Wii Jeopardy tournament.

You can tickle your creative side by taking special AAW painting and other art classes. Of course, all work and no play ... well, makes one thirsty. So, be sure to bring your passport to our international wine tasting paired with equally tasty morsels from the Shannondell kitchens. The more stamps your passport holds at the end of the week, the more

chances you’ll have to win exciting raffle prizes. It’s going to be a lot

of fun, so be on the lookout for your passport and get ready for a fun, active week in September at Shannondell.

PERFORMING ARTS

What is it about the fall season and the theater? The two seem such a pair. Maybe it’s the combination of earlier evenings and cooling weather that turns our attention back indoors. Or, maybe thoughts of a stroll down Broadway in New York on a crisp October eve. Or possibly, the anticipation of all the upcoming holiday specials. Whatever the tie, it appears alive and well in the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater. Forty-plus professional productions are scheduled over the balance of the year – from concertos and opera to Broadway vocalists, choral groups and musical comedy. So, grab your friends and make it a night on the town this fall ... without ever heading outside the gates. Bravo!
