GROUP MEETING: DivorceCare Group to meet in

Millerstown DivorceCare is an interdenominational

group that is open to anyone hurting from separation or

divorce. The group will continue to meet on the 2nd and

4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:30-8:30pm for 13

beyond will set up shop for the day to delight shoppers of

News Release from Newport Assembly of God...

Newport Assembly of God, located at 253 N 6th St. in Newport is launching a

Thompsontown campus on November 10, 2013. According to Pastor Gary Bellis the

church has obtained the building located at 10110 William Penn Highway,


Pastor Bellis has been the lead pastor at the church for 37 years. The additional

pastoral staff and office personnel have a total of 96 years’ experience serving at the

Newport Assembly. During those years the church has gained a reputation for its

relevant and practical teaching of the Bible and strong community and worldwide

outreach. It places a strong emphasis on children and youth ministries.

One of the church’s best known ministries is the Bread of Life Outreach (BOLO).

“We receive and distribute food, over-the-counter medicines, cleaning products,

hygiene products, beds, wheelchairs, and more,” says Bellis. “We have been blessed

to work with companies such as CVS, Operation Blessing, Convoy of Hope,

Bethesda Mission, Feed the Children, South Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and

other ministries and retail businesses. BOLO operates from a 7,000-square-foot

warehouse of constantly rotating supplies that go out to people in need. The church

also helps supply nine other churches with goods for their ministries to the needy.

The church networks with many churches and community organizations. “We

have over 200 volunteers, from the community and other churches, who help with

BOLO,” says Bellis. From January 1 to the end of August, the church has given

away 885 tons of products at no cost to the recipients. At the salvage rate of $1.75 a

pound, that’s more than 3 million in aid to the needy of the county. Since BOLO

began in 1994, they have distributed more than 34,000 tons of supplies valued at

more than $120 million.”

Additional products received at the warehouse have been donated to schools and

serving agencies within Perry County. The church seeks to support institutions and

agencies that serve the community. This practical assistance will be a large part of

the church outreach in Juniata County.

The church also has a vision to reach out to the greater world. The church

invested in Russia for 15 years. Hundreds of tons of humanitarian supplies were

shipped to the former Soviet Union beginning in 1990. The church partnered with

other churches and organizations to send medical teams and provide training and

Bible study materials for pastors and church leaders. They also assisted in planting

many churches. Currently the church has a large ministry footprint in Haiti and

India. Teams are sent several times each year to these locations.

Pastor Bellis notes Juniata County has some excellent churches and a very active

county food bank. He added, “Our church looks forward to working with them to

There are plenty of great bargains at over 60 vendors, in

over 14,000 square feet to shop in at Village Merchants. There

are so many great treasures throughout the store, it seems to

be busting at the seams. They now have a Teate’s appliance

section with everything from microwaves to washers, dryers,

refrigerators, and more. My son bought a dryer for $100. It

works great. Village Merchants now have used furniture as

well as new furniture at prices that will leave you feeling like

you got the best deal ever. They have extended their PaPa J’s

Crab Cake Cafe for more seating. There is also a social hall

available for holiday parties, call and reserve your date today

before it get’s taken.

We didn’t cover all of our advertisers, nor did we cover all

the businesses throughout Perry and Juniata Counties but now

that I’ve written about all these business and I think about all

of them I haven’t written there are many places to go

shopping that you can buy things made in the good ole USA.

That would be a challenge wouldn’t it. To buy gift items this

holiday season only made in the USA. Let me know if you

accomplish that and I will put your picture and name in the

Shopper’s Remedy. I would have loved to include more

businesses in our Holiday Gift Guide and I’m sure there are

many who would have liked to be included but time limited

me to how many I could get to. So, if you’re a business in
