A Bit About Hermann
• Born in 1884 in Zurich, Switzerland
• Father was a drawing teacher at a boy’s prep school
• Hermann’s childhood nickname was “Klex” (meaning “inkblot”)– Klecksography, using
inkblots to create some form of image was a popular game at the time
– Was a fairly decent artist
But What About the Inkblots?
• Experimented for a while in 1911 with inkblots and Jung’s word association test, but put it aside
• In 1917, someone else published a dissertation regarding inkblots Szyman Hens and Eugen Bleuler– Bleuler was Rorschach’s
supervisor at one point• Regenerated Rorschach’s
interest, who, by 1818 developed about 40 cards (10 are now in use) and utilized them on hundreds of patients
• In 1922, he published his book detailing his work with inkblots called “Psychodiagnostik”
• A few weeks later, he passed away at the age of 37
