WHAT IS SST….

• It is a technology that helps you to transmit information without using your vocal cords.• This technology aims to notice lip movements and transform them

into a computer generated sound that can be transmitted over a phone.• Hence person on other end of phone receives the information in

audio.

Page 4: Silent sound technology

NEED OF SST….

“What happens if we don’t communicate? Suddenly we lose our voice during an accident……”Helps those who had lost their voice but wish to speak.

Output can be routed to communication networks.

People can speak over phone without disturbing others.

Also can speak in noisy environment.

FEATURES OF SST…. Works for various languages Make silent calls Confidential Information Useful for dumb people Applied in military

IMAGE PROCESSING

METHODS…

ELECTROMYOGRAPHY…Electromyography is of two types:

SURFACE EMG.

INTRAMUSCULAR EMG.

Page 8: Silent sound technology

MECHANISIM OF

ELECTROMYO-GRAPHY.

Page 9: Silent sound technology

PROCEDURE OF SURFACE EMG….It is a non-invasive technique. The Silent Sound Technology uses electromyography, monitoring tiny muscular

movements that occur when we speak.Monitored signals are converted into electrical pulses that can then be turned into

speech, without a sound uttered. An electromyography detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells, when

these cells are electrically activated.Electromyography sensors attached to the face records the electric signals produced

by the facial muscles, compare them with pre recorded signal pattern of spoken words.

When there is a match that sound is transmitted on to the other end of the line and person at the other end listen to the spoken words.

SURFACE EMG….

Page 11: Silent sound technology

PROCEDURE FOR INTRAMUSCULAR EMG:It is a invasive technique.A needle electrode or a needle containing two fine-wire electrodes is inserted through the skin into the muscle tissue.A trained professional observes the electrical activity and gets information

about the state of the muscle and its innervating nerve.Normal muscles at rest make certain electrical signals when the needle is

inserted. This activity is studied.Because skeletal muscles differ in the inner structure, the electrode has to

be placed at various locations to obtain an accurate study.

DRAWBACKS….

Device presently needs nine leads to be attached to our face which is quite impractical to make it usable.

It’s little painful.

Translation to Chinese language is a bit difficult.

Not portable

IMAGE PROCESSING IN SST…

It is the other technique of SSTA device oriented package to design and implement for the purpose

of lip reading.

Image processing usually refers to digital image processing, but optical and analog image processing also are possible.

Image processing is a physical process used to convert an image signal into a physical image.

IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES….

Analysis of remotely sensed data is done using various image processing techniques and methods that includes:

Analog image processing. Digital image processing.

Page 15: Silent sound technology

ANALOG IMAGE PROCESSSING…

Analog processing techniques is applied to hard copy data such as photographs or printouts.

It adopts certain elements of interpretation, such as primary element, spatial arrangement etc.,

Apart from these it also includes optical photogrammetric techniques allowing for precise measurement of the height, width, location, etc of an object.

DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING..The simplest form of digital image processing converts the digital

data tape into a film image with minimal corrections and calibrations. Then large mainframe computers are employed for interactive

manipulation of the data.Digital Image Processing undergoes three general steps:

1. Pre-processing2. Display and enhancement3. Information extraction

APPLICATIONS:People can communicate in different languages by translating the output of SST. Helps to Analyse and understand the people who have lost voice to speak or

stuttering problem.Silent Sound Techniques is applied in Military for communicating

secret/confidential matters to others. Helps people to make silent calls during meetings/ in mass crowded places.User can tell PIN no., credit card no., password and other personals without

bothering some eavesdroppers.Software can be installed in wrist watch, wrist tag or display/Mobile/Pc and etc.

CONCLUSION…

• Thus Silent Sound Technology, one of the recent trends in the field of information technology implements ―’Talking without Talking’.• It will be one of the innovation and useful technology and in mere

future this technology will be used in our day to day life.• Silent Sound technology aims to notice every movement of the lips

and transform them into sounds, which could help people who lose voices to speak, and allow people to make silent calls without bothering others.

FUTURE PROSPECTS….Silent sound technology gives way to a bright future to speech

recognition technology.Without having electrodes hanging all around your face, these

electrodes will be incorporated into cell phones .It may have features like lip reading based on image recognition &

processing rather than electromyography. Also reducing the time taken to process the image in digital image

processing.
