•Simón Bolívar is regarded in Hispanic America as a hero, visionary, revolutionary, and liberator. During his lifetime, he led Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela to independence, and helped lay the foundations for democratic ideology in much of Hispanic America.

• Simon Bolivar was one of South America's greatest generals. Bolivar was born in July 24, 1783, at Caracas, Venezuela. Bolivar joined the group of patriots that seized Caracas in 1810 and proclaimed independence from Spain. Bolivar crushed the Spanish army at Carabobo in Venezuela on June 24, 1821.  Next, he marched into Educador and added that territory to the new Colombian republic.  After a meeting in 1822 with another great liberator, Bolivar became dictator of Peru.

Simon Bolivar could not have lived his life with more easy and luxury. Simon Bolivar went to Cartagena and joined forces with Colombian patriot, Atonio Narino. He returned to win countless victories against the Spanish. In August, 1813, he entered Caracas and was given the title of "the liberator." In 1814 the Spanish recaptured Caracas and Simon escaped to Jamaica, where he created a book called La Carta de Jamaica, which means "The Letter from Jamaica."

• -In Venezuela and Bolivia, Bolivar's birthday is celebrated as a national holiday.

Simon Bolivar's whole name is, Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Palacios y Blanco! He was known as "El Libertador" (The Liberator).

~He vowed never to marry again, a vow, which he kept for the rest

of his life.

~Bolivar lost respect for Napoleon whom he considered to have betrayed the republican ideals.

• In 1824 Bolívar led the revolutionary forces of Peru in their fight for independence. He was elected president of Peru in 1825 and later organized in southern Peru a new republic, which was named Bolivia in his honor.

• Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar was born on July 24, 1783 in Caracas, Venezuela to affluent parents. He belonged to a family of Spaniards who had been born in the New World. His parents died when he was very young and he was educated by private tutors. These included the great intellectuals Andrés Bello and Simón Rodríguez. In 1799 he left for Spain and it was there that he met his wife, Maria Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa.

• Simón Bolívar was a complex man. He was an idealist, an aristocrat secure in his heritage and status, a well-educated man and deep-thinker who liked things done his way, a visionary and a revolutionary.

• The military and political career of Simon bolivar, July 24, 1783, December 17, 1830, which included both formal service in the armies of various revolutionary regimes and actions organized by himself or in collaboration with other exiled patriot leaders during the years from 1811 to 1830, was an important element in the success of the independence wars in south america.
