The Al-Anon Board is host- ing the Al-Anon Family Groups of Greater St. Louis 2nd Annual National Recovery Month Appeal. Last year’s appeal raised almost $5,000 and was instrumental in developing our new local website. This year our goal is $5,000 and we’ll be highlighting our Public Out- reach Program. In the past few years the Public Outreach team has increased the effort to share our message of expe- rience, strength and hope with the St. Louis Metro Area. Our volunteers have handed out literature and answered questions at various events and fairs, made presentations at schools across the area, and distributed countless cop- ies of Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism. Re- quests for information about Al-Anon have increased, thanks to our Public Outreach team. Please consider contributing to the 2nd Annual National Recovery Month Appeal! Throughout September we’ll be passing an envelope at Al-Anon meetings. You can also send a contribu- tion of cash, check or credit card to the main office: Anon Information Services/Al-Anon Family Groups of Greater STL 14 Sunnen Drive, #144 Maplewood, MO 63143 The appeal runs from Septem- ber 1 - 30. NOTHING can happen without your willingness to pitch in!!! Our Public Outreach Team meeting took place on Monday evening, August 7th. The Principle of Anonymity

At the August Intergroup Rep meeting, we discussed the topic of whether to print an individual’s name in the Sincerely Al-Anon when contributions, such as a memorial, anniversary, birthday, etc. Discussion was held as follows: From the “Bequests” policy in the newly-revised “Financial Matters” section of the Policy Digest: “In maintaining the principle of anonymity, no individual’s gift is acknowledged publicly nor can the gift be earmarked for any specific pur-pose or program. Al-Anon members give knowing that the money will be spent continuing to support and expand the program that brought us peace and serenity during our lives.”

In keeping with the spirit of anonymity, the WSO does not publicly acknowledge any contribution. Hence, the spirit of Tradition Six is upheld-we don’t let problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary spiritual aim. Having a discussion about the topic in a principle-based manner by applying the Traditions to the matter at hand can aid the AIS in reaching an informed group conscience decision going forward.

Want to share your experience, strength and hope? The AIS office does provide a great service in having a list of Al-Anon Speakers that Al-Anon Groups are welcome to utilize! Just call the AIS office at 314-645-1572 and we will get you involved in being a speaker. If you are not comfortable speaking at a group level, we would be most hon-ored for your articles of your personal experience, strength and hope for the monthly Sincerely Al-Anon publication. You can submit and state you prefer to be anonymous, that is aok!

. (Public Outreach Beacon, continued from page 2)

A discussion was held about staying con-nected with district representatives. All District Representatives have been invit-ed to be placed on our public outreach team email distribution list so they are aware of our activities and invited to vol-unteer with us. We are beginning to post upcoming events and requests for volun-teers on our new AIS website. Please keep up with these events by viewing the website at WWW.STL-AL-ANON. This is a great tool for Public Outreach! Stay tuned to the website for postings about upcoming events and volunteer opportu-nities. To view current volunteer oppor-tunities, please select the Members tab, and then select volunteer opportuni-ties. To view recent or upcoming activi-ties, please go to the Members tab, then select Recent Activities of Public Out-reach. There are many avenues for Public Out-reach! If you are considering broadening your personal progress in Al-Anon, please consider Public Outreach ser-vice. There are necessary tasks where we need assistance. How about taking a bro-chure to your local police station, fire department, public library, or to a doc-tor/dentist office? Al-Anon Faces Alcohol-ism 2017 is .75 at AIS. Take AIS business cards the next time you are at the Al-Anon office located at 14 Sunnen Dr., Suite # 144, Maplewood, MO 63143. Our next Public Outreach meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 11 at 6:30 PM. We will be meeting at St. Louis Bread Company, 1909 So. Brentwood, Brentwood, in the Brentwood Square Shopping Center just south of the St.

Louis Galleria. Please join us. Diane R. and Mary B., AIS Public Out-reach Coordinators
