Greetings one and all, it is good to be back home. When I decided to do the knee surgery little did I know that there were going to be ramifications that would keep me down for three months. I would like to give you a summary of what has happened so you under-stand my absence and that it’s going to take a while longer for me to be 100%.
November 7th was my knee replacement. A few days later I start-ed having chills that would last 4-8 hours almost each day. The thought was it was a reaction to the surgery. However, my knee was not infected. Ten weeks later I was still experiencing chills. By the 3rd visit to the ER I was admitted to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests. The good news is I don’t have cancer and my heart is fine. The culprit is an auto immune disease connected to arthri-tis that was disturbed when I had the knee replacement. I am still experiencing chills and will see a Rheumatologist but there isn’t an opening until March 17th.
It is difficult for me to slow down but now there is no other way. As my brothers reminded me, I am a “Campbell” and our genes say keep going. I ask your continued prayers and patience with all the pieces that will be on hold until I can get back to 100% again.
Your assistance in stepping up to assist for the concert to be suc-cessful is really important. Please let Sophie, Teresa, Grace, Veron-ica and any others on the fundraising team know what you can do to help us out. Selling tickets to others is a huge piece in addition to all the volunteers we need for the night of the concert.
I trust that God is in control here and knows how this will all work out.
Your continued support of the Monastery is awe inspiring. God knew
what needed to happen here and has continued faithfulness to us.
Blessings,
Sister Linda Campbell, OSB, Prioress
Readings for Sunday Feb. 2, 2020
Reading 1, Malachi 3:1-4 Responsorial, Psalms 24:7, 8, 9, 10
Reading 2, Hebrews 2:14-18 Gospel, Luke 2:22-40
“For most of my life I have struggled to find God, to know God, to love God. I have tried hard to
follow the guidelines of the spiritual life—pray always, work for others, read the Scriptures—and
to avoid the many temptations to dissipate myself. I have failed many times but always tried
again, even when I was close to despair. Now I wonder whether I have sufficiently realized that
during all this time God has been trying to find me, to know me, and to love me. The question is
not “How am I to find God?” but “How am I to let myself be found by him?” The question is not
“How am I to know God?” but “How am I to let myself be known by God?” And, finally, the question
is not “How am I to love God?” but “How am I to let myself be loved by God?” God is looking into
the distance for me, trying to find me, and longing to bring me home.”—Henri Nouwen
Benedictine Spirituality Today—Let Go and Let God
Let’s face it staying on the straight and narrow is not easy. Many of us were taught the
basic components needed to get to heaven are to know, to love and to serve God, and,
for the most part, we have tried to live our lives accordingly. As I read the above quote
from Henri Nouwen, I was struck by how much it described much of my spiritual journey; I
suspect that many of us can say the same. We have become so focused on the task of
knowing, loving and serving that we have somehow lost sight of Him. So, we end up be-
coming distracted by things that do not benefit us or we become so overwhelmed by the
doing that we find ourselves asking “Lord, where are you?”. St. Benedict, in his wisdom,
tells us to listen with the ears of our heart; He is there, we are never lost. But Henri
Nouwen says we have to allow ourselves to be found by Him, to be loved by Him, to be
known by Him. Sure, there are times that we don’t feel worthy of God’s love and we hide
from Him not wanting to be found. Those are the times that He loves us most; those are
the times we should ask, “How am I to let myself be known by God?” Like Simeon and
Anna, in today’s Gospel, they let themselves be found by God. Their trust was profound,
they waited a lifetime. They let go and let God find them where they were. To know, to
love, to serve, that is a lot of pressure put on us but to allow God Almighty to know, to
love and to find us, now, that is amazing Grace.
