The summer is a wonderful me of the year. I know how many of you are planning vaca ons, camp, trips and, of course, our beau ful Jersey Shore. It is a me to decompress a er what has been a very busy and, hopefully, a meaningful year for you and your family.

June 7, she and I are empty-nesters!!) and taking some me off to do some stayca oning! But I also look forward to the summer for another reason.

I love summer worship. Last year we experimented with outdoor services at 6:30. They were a big hit and the Religious Prac ces Commi ee voted to expand the program throughout July and August. What a wonderful service it is – and some mes includes a family of deer walking behind the pa o in the middle of the service in a sort of Bambi way! The dress is informal. The service is musical and beau ful and it is a beau ful way to begin Shabbat with your family and then have some me to enjoy the evening with your family. As well, to add to the joy, occasionally we will have a bonfi re a er services and enjoy each other’s company on an Erev Shabbat. Bring some marshmallows! You can see when we will have a post-Tefi llah kumzitz in E-lijah and the temple website.

This year there are also some special services. On July 17 there is the Shabbat Under the Stars with a Fiesta Mexican theme! The service will be terrifi c and the food will be mucho bueno! And, on August 28, we will have a Sof Kayitz Shabbat – End of the Summer Shabbat and Dinner. You will want to mark your calendars for all these services.

Yahrzeits are a very special moment in the service especially for those who are remembering a deceased loved one.

The Religious Prac ces Commi ee would like to add even more meaning to this ritual.

When a name is read for the Yahrzeit, you may send us a two sentence descrip on of the person you are remembering (eg. Joe

Horowitz, a wonderful father and avid Jets fan who loved his grandchildren so much and is

fondly remembered). If the descrip on is more than 2 sentences, the offi ce will edit it down to two sentences so as not to unduly lengthen the

service.

You are also invited to bring a picture of a loved one on the night of the Yahrzeit

with a paragraph about the person and their rela onship to you, etc.

Those pictures will be put out in the foyer for that Friday night service.

Please send the descrip on of your loved one to tbmoffi [email protected].

Our SALTYites have had a great year that culminated in our crea ve service last month in conjunc- on with the confi rma on celebra on. With confi dence and convic on, our teens led services

that were inspired, and showed those in a endance that TBM's eff orts in what the URJ refers to as Youth Engagement is working. As you can see from the photograph, we had a very healthy repre-senta on of our own youth, both in SALTY par cipa on and within our confi rma on class.

Temple Beth Miriam is very commi ed in keeping our post bar/bat mitzvah community connected, and we rely on three branches....the fi rst is the Rabbi's Teen Academy Class. Once a month, having fi lled up on a full hot breakfast prepared by our Sisterhood and Men's Club, highschoolers gather, usually on the fl oor with Rabbi Cy, to discuss highly modern and relevant topics and how they relate to Judaism...and they just LOVE it. When you walk by, each and every one is very engaged and in-terested. We are very grateful to the Sisterhood and Men's Club whose breakfasts a ract them and then they stay and keep coming for the Rabbi's content...it totally takes a village. The village also spills into our Eisenberg Religious School....where over 80% of Teen Academy par cipants volunteer on Sunday mornings, se ng the example of con nuing Jewish Educa on and Tikkun Olam (serv-ing the community), for their younger counter parts. That was the second branch. Finally, the third branch is our Youth Programming, TamTams, SALTeens and SALTY. When they reach SALTY, our teens join up with our regional and na onal youth groups, widely expanding their Jewish connec ons, and actually prac ce all that we've preaching about 'living and doing Jewish'.....and this all made possible by the generosity of the Pess Youth Fund, created and supported by Dr. Gary and Lois Pess and by everyone who generously contributes to this fund.

These three branches are equal in importance to the magic we weave to keep our teens curious, involved and present, and none would happen without the support of the en re community, be it our professionals, the men and women who cook, the parents who encourage or anyone who make a fi nancial contribu on. It's working, so let's keep doing it!

Volunteers Needed to Shop for Onegs

To Our TBM Family,

The Sisterhood has set up a volunteer sign up for oneg shopping each week. This is NOT a request for set up or break down of the oneg, just shopping for some food items and bringing them to the temple prior to that week's service. Volunteers are only needed to shop for onegs that are not being sponsored by a bar/bat mitzvah family, religious school class, or other special event. This should mean that each temple family should only have to shop once every 2-3 years! A new list of dates, along with the guide-lines below, will be posted every 3-4 months. Please go to this link to sign up for a week to volunteer: h p://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0E4CACAC29A20-tbmoneg. (If the link does not work, please type or copy this address into your web browser).

Items can be dropped off in the TBM kitchen on Wednesday 9-6, Thursday 9-4, or Friday 9-12. Please use the labeled areas in the refrigerator, freezer, and on the counter for the purchased items. Although we ask you to pick items from the list below, please feel free to put your own fl air on the foods for that week. You can get more items from any of the lists if you like, add an interes ng item not listed, or maybe bring things made at home. Variety is always nice! No Shellfi sh or Pork Please.

List A - Pick at least 2: Berries, Pineapple, Grapes, or MelonList B - Pick at least 2: Cookies, Brownies, Cupcakes, Other Small Por on CakesList C - Pick at least 1: Cheese and Crackers, Dips (Hummus, Spinach, Veggie, etc.) and Chips/Bread, Fro-zen Appe zer, Small Veggie Pla er, etc. Items do not need to be cut up or pla ered, but if you have the me it would be greatly appreciated. Receipts with your name and "Oneg Shopping" wri en at the top can be le in the offi ce or in the white mailbox outside the offi ce for reimbursement. Total to be reimbursed should be a maximum of $40.

Thank you again for your help in making our weekly worship an even more wonderful experience. If you have any ques ons, feel free to contact me.
