Mission StatementSan Juan Diego Catholic High School provides highly motivated students the opportunity to earn a Catholic, college-preparatory

education enriched by participation in a corporate internship program.

In 2015, San Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS) celebrated thirteen years of providing an outstanding Catholic, college-preparatory education. One hundred percent of SJDCHS graduates of the Class of 2015 were accepted to college. On May 27, 2015, 32 graduates were awarded Distinguished Achievement diplomas. Collectively, they received over 43 offers of admission from colleges around the country and were offered more than $1 million in academic scholarships. Thanks to the rigorous college-preparatory education and their hard work, 63% will be fi rst generation college students.

Since its inception in 2002, SJDCHS has created exciting opportunities for our students. SJDCHS is the only school of its kind in central Texas. The cornerstone of SJDCHS is the innovative Corporate Internship Program (CIP). Students work one day a week for one of more than 25 Austin companies, including Seton Healthcare, Dell and Whole Foods.

Our fundraising efforts continue to grow, providing more than $700,000 annually for tuition assistance to all those who would not otherwise have access to this extraordinary high school program. Fundraising for the capital campaign, “Transforming Lives: Building Opportunities,” is over two-thirds of our goal.

SJDCHS promises students every opportunity to excel—spiritually, academically, and professionally. We are proud that we have been able to further our mission of providing highly motivated students the opportunity to earn a Catholic, college-preparatory education. It is only with your support that SJDCHS has been able to accept each motivated, hard-working student who comes through our doors. With your continued support we can offer additional opportunities to deserving students in the years to come.

It truly is a great time to be a Saint!

Sincerely,

Pamela S. JupePresident & Principal

Archbishop Gregory Aymond sought to empower individuals and transform communities through Catholic schools which create opportunities for young people with the greatest fi nancial and educational need. He founded SJDCHS in 2002, replicating the innovative Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago, IL. To date, SJDCHS has graduated more than 250 students.

SJDCHS received full accreditation from the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED) in 2009. The TCCED is assisted by the Texas Catholic Conference Accreditation Commission and is part of the state-approved Texas Private School Accreditation Commission. SJDCHS is a member of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, the National Catholic Education Association, the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling, and the College Board. The school is also represented on the board of the National Catholic College Admission Association.

All students of SJDCHS fulfi ll requirements for the Distinguished Achievement diploma (30 credits) of the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.

In the hope of transforming students into caring individuals who generously respond to the needs of society, SJDCHS requires that every student complete a minimum of 80 hours of service to the poor and disadvantaged of the community before graduation.

San Juan Diego Catholic High School’s 2014-2015 enrollment consisted of 167 students. 93% of the students were Catholic. The demographics of the students were as follows:

Why Your Support is Needed...In 2014-2015:• Over 50% of SJDCHS students were eligible

for free or reduced federal lunch, with many families earning only slightly over the amount needed to qualify.

• The typical SJDCHS family raised 2.6 children on a known household income of $44,052.

• Tuition was based on a family’s ability to pay.• Nearly half of the cost to educate came from

the generosity of donors like you!

Through the Fund-A-Saint tuition assistance program, you can make a difference in the life of a student. Please consider helping a student receive a Catholic, college-

preparatory education by providing tuition assistance of $5,000 per year. Thank you for your continuing partnership in this important ministry.

The Corporate Internship Program (CIP) of SJDCHS provides students with professional experience and subsequent career possibilities while offering the opportunity to earn a portion of the cost of their education. Each student is part of a team of four students who share a full-time, entry-level position at one of our corporate partners’ businesses. Every student works fi ve 8-hour days per month, developing practical job skills and experience in a variety of industries, including law, health care, technology, education, real estate, fi nance and non-profi t service. Students are formally reviewed on their performance four times per year. In addition, students are supported in the program through an intensive summer training program and personal coaching administered by CIP staff. Teamwork, time management, personal responsibility, organizational skills, computer applications, written and verbal communications, and basic business concepts are integral components of the learning experience provided by this program.

Red roses in winter! Juan Diego received the miracle of love and hope from Our Lady of Guadalupe in the form of vibrant red roses growing in the cold and rocky Mexican soil during

the 16th century. The Virgin also bestowed her blessings on Juan Diego through her radiant image which appeared on his tilma, or tunic. The roses and the blessed tilma became symbols of the faith that Juan Diego was able to share with the disbelieving Bishop of Mexico. Through her image and gift of roses, the Bishop understood that the Virgin had appeared with the message to

build a church in her honor on the hill of Tepayac.

Mirroring the Bishop of Mexico’s call to Juan Diego to build a church in 1531, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond instituted San Juan Diego Catholic High School in Austin, Texas, in

2002, just weeks before Pope John Paul II canonized Juan Diego. San Juan Diego Catholic High School is the fruit of love and hope; the students are our roses, and their success is the

blossoming of our faith in our mission.

Transforming Lives:Building Opportunities!

San Juan Diego Catholic High SchoolCapital Campaign

Our dream of a new main building will soon become a reality. We are in the fi nal stages of fundraising for our “Transforming Lives: Building Opportunities!” Capital Campaign. We have raised two-thirds of our $9.6 million Phase 1 goal in pledges and gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

The new 60,000+ sq. ft. facility will house a state-of-the-art math & science center, fi ne arts, gymnasium/activity center, library and computer lab, athletic fi eld, corporate internship offi ces and administrative offi ces.

We anticipate beginning construction in the fall of 2015 and welcoming students in January 2017.

There is still time to support this important step in continuing our mission of providing a quality, Catholic college-preparatory education to those with the most fi nancial and educational need. Various naming opportunities remain.
