Some sketchbook pages

• These are an attempt to capture experience (not unlike taking photographs or

taking a shell home to remind you of a day at the beach).

• These often use collage and other devices to evade the tyranny of the ‘good

drawing’.

• These are usually improvised at the time and collage prompts unexpected ideas

and connections.

• These are not an attempt to make a good picture.

• These record a range of thoughts, images, sounds, feelings, ideas – not a

picture.

• The sketchbooks are always hardbound and A6 in size.
