I cannot believe that it has been 27 years since we first introduced luxury chalet holidays. Much has changed since then, but our aim remains the same - to provide you with the ultimate holiday experience.

Skiing lies at the heart of Scott Dunn and I’m delighted to announce that we have introduced two new chalets to our Val d’Isère portfolio. And there’s more – our collection of ski hotels grows apace and now includes options in Megève and Val Thorens, as well as more properties in the breath-taking Dolomites - we hope to entice you to experience them first-hand. Guests seeking a more independent skiing holiday last winter raved about our private chalets and apartments and we have a wider selection of these properties for 2013/14. While our commitment to service is unchanged over a quarter of a century, it continues to evolve. From more flexible menus in our chalets and more experienced resort teams than ever, to incredible tailor-made adventures in Europe, North America and beyond, we are fully dedicated to providing you with a holiday which is nothing short of exceptional.

Every year we strive to make your holiday experience even better and be unlike any other. Over the past twelve months, our ski specialists have been scouring the Alps looking for new properties that offer something a little bit special. In Val d’ Isère, we are delighted to introduce two new properties to our chalet programme which we feel perfectly enrich our portfolio of stunning chalets in this world-class resort. The service that we offer in our chalets continues to be refined and tailored to your every need to ensure you get everything that you want from your holiday.

Our ski hotels portolio has been expanded to include the best properties in the Dolomites – both in San Cassiano and the glitzy Madonna di Campiglio, while in France we are featuring some stunning accommodation in Megève and two new hotels in Europe’s highest ski resort - Val Thorens – a snow sure option well into May.

We have added to our collection of hand-picked private chalets and apartments available without a chef, which allow you to be as flexible as you wish while on holiday, safe in the knowledge that you have the full support of our resort team, only a phone call away.

In North America, we combine our ski heritage with our tailor-made expertise worldwide to create unforgettable experiences. Whether it is swooping down the immaculate corduroy pistes in Colorado or combining your skiing with a longer trip to other destinations in the States, Canada, the sun-drenched Caribbean beaches or even Iceland, every holiday is completely unique.

Let us take you on a journey to discover, experience and explore with the first step being a lingering browse on our website to discover our ski programme in full.

Welcome to Wonderful

Our UK-qualified private nannies are chosen both for their expertise and their passion for looking after children aged four months to 13 years. They understand that when it comes to keeping young ones entertained, variety is key; this is why your children will enjoy a huge range of indoor and outdoor activities during their holiday, leaving you to make the most of the slopes, knowing they are having a fantastic time.

Each day a nanny can come to your accommodation to help your children change into their skiwear or generally get them ready for the day, you just need to pre-book this service.

Children as young as three years old can attend ski school. Those learning to ski will then be taken to their lessons before enjoying an action-packed afternoon. A typical day for younger ones might include

tobogganing or swimming in the morning, stopping for hot chocolate and a healthy lunch, followed by an afternoon of creative painting and games.

You do not need to worry about a thing, as we provide all the baby essentials, toys, books, games and play equipment your children will need, depending on their age group. So, less for you to think about when you do your packing.

We operate a Scott Dunn Explorers club in Val d’Isère and a Mini Explorers club at the Portetta Hotel in Courchevel Moriond. In Val d’Isère, the club is purpose-built, expansive and provides a fun, caring environment with lots of toys, games and creative activities to keep your children happy.

There is a main play area, a chill-out room with a television, a games console and a sleep room for our youngest guests. Children are split into age-appropriate groups to ensure the activities they take part in are suited to their abilities.

At the Portetta, our Mini Explorers club is available exclusively to guests staying at

the hotel, with children aged from four months up to seven years. Operating from a dedicated area on the lower level of the hotel, it is equipped with toys and games by the bucketload.

Children are divided into age groups and our nannies organise a range of exciting indoor and outdoor activities, from arts and crafts to sledging and snowman building.

All in all, you can be safe in the knowledge that your children are well looked after, leaving you to enjoy the slopes.

If you have any questions about our childcare in the mountains, do call our family specialists who are only too happy to help.

Chalets are a great way to gather friends, families and even colleagues or clients for any occasion or simply just to spend quality time together. We can accommodate groups of 6 to 14 in a single chalet and larger groups in neighbouring properties in Val d’Isère, Courchevel 1850 and St Anton.

Our collection of Private Chalets and Apartments are perfect if you are looking to be more independent on holiday as the properties are unstaffed, yet you still have access to our resort concierge service.

Our ski hotels portfolio offers a variety of properties in resorts across the Alps, Dolomites and North America and every property has one thing in common – a desire to make your stay more than just a holiday.

OurChalETS

Our 23 chalets are situated in four of the best resorts in the Alps, Val d’Isère, Courchevel 1850, St Anton and Zermatt. They range in style from relatively modest apartments to some of the most magnificent chalets in the Alps. Many have wellness facilities to rival a hotel, but all are wonderfully comfortable and chosen for their character which makes them great places to stay.

Over the last 27 years, we have spent time listening to our guests and have been refining every aspect of our service to make sure that we deliver the perfect chalet holiday. Mouth-watering food, wonderfully comfortable bedrooms and hand-picked wines are a given. Beyond that, all you need to do is tell us what you would like from your holiday and we will deliver. Whether that is a five-course tasting menu or good old spaghetti bolognese, the best table reserved at the hottest nightspot or just quality family time, we tailor our service to make your holiday perfect for you.

Original chalets are apartment chalets. Some have wellness facilities, some have sublime views but all are well-equipped and enhanced by little touches that will make your holiday.

Premier chalets are luxurious and enjoy an enhanced wine and dining menu. They come with fabulous private wellness areas, many with hot tubs or Hammams and several with a private swimming pool.

Flagship chalets are simply in a league of their own. These three outstanding chalets are some of the finest in Europe. Wildly decadent and spacious, it is like staying in your own personal boutique hotel, complete with private pool. Other indulgences might include a steam room, gym, sauna or outdoor hot tub. You can even choose one with its own 12-seater cinema.

WINE & SpIRIT SElEcTION

Every wine we serve has been carefully considered to complement our gourmet menus. Since the creation of Scott Dunn, Andrew Dunn has been involved in the wine selection process and challenges our partners to assemble a list that perfectly complements the delicate flavours of our menus and beautifully enhances the overall dining experience.

Sipsmith, the first distillery to launch in London for two hundred years, produce the highest quality vodka and gin. It is made by hand using artisan methods and distilled in a handmade copper-pot still. Sipsmith spirits are on offer in our Premier and Flagship chalets.

Laurent-Perrier Champagnes are deliciously fresh and easy to drink. They were an easy choice for our Champagne partner.

pRIvATE ChalETS & aParTmENTSWe have handpicked a selection of private chalets and apartments in Courchevel, Val d’Isère, Zermatt and St Anton which guests can take without chefs and hosts but still have the comfort and security of having access to our resort teams. This is a great option for people looking to enjoy more independence – particularly if you have older children and prefer to do your own thing or want to spend more time eating out, enjoying the après-ski or if you prefer to cook for yourself.

Our resort teams make it easy by delivering fresh bread and pastries to you each morning,

pre-stocking your fridge, collecting you from the slopes or just being at the end of the phone if you need them.

Of course, we can also arrange all aspects of your travel and pre-book ski tuition and guiding so arranging a holiday could not be simpler. You have all the backup that comes from booking with a bonded tour operator with a strong resort presence and over 25 years’ experience in the Alps.

We are continuing to add new properties so please keep an eye on our website for the most up to date information.

Call our ski specialists on 020 8682 5050 or visitscottdunn.com/apartments

Having spent a lot of time researching suitable properties to add to our illustrious collection of ski hotels, we are delighted to include properties in Madonna di Campiglio, Megève and Val Thorens for the first time. Furthermore we have enhanced our portfolio in the South Tyrol, adding three more hotels in the pretty village of San Cassiano, in the heart of the Dolomites.

Ski hotel holidays are perfect for smaller groups, those who want more flexible arrival and departure dates and for those who simply prefer the style of a hotel holiday to the intimacy of the ski chalet. Our ski holidays are entirely

tailor-made; we can craft almost anything you like, including stays in more than one resort.

Wherever you choose to go, we will take care of every aspect of your holiday, from your travel to your ski guiding or restaurant reservations. In Courchevel 1850, St Anton, Val d’Isère and Zermatt, you have the benefit of our in-resort teams who offer services such as our childcare (at additional cost), our shuttle service or simply a friendly face when you need help. This great service we provide would usually come at a cost but because we buy well, good value for money is just another part of our special service.

We can turn a simple ski holiday into a multi-dimensional, unforgettable experience, incorporating more than one resort, a city or even the beach.

What you see here is only a fraction of what we can organise. Take a look at our website for more inspiration or better still, give our specialists a call and let us create your dream holiday.

FROM PISTE TO BEACH

Imagine gliding down the slopes with the magnificent Matterhorn as your backdrop one week, then dipping your toes in the pool with the warmth of the Mediterranean sun on your back the next. This could be your honeymoon or simply a holiday.

Start your trip in the picture postcard Swiss resort of Zermatt. Staying at the Cervo Mountain

Resort, a perfect bolthole for couples or families, you can indulge in some fantastic skiing and fabulous cuisine. From Zurich, fly in search of the sun and finish your holiday in the warm Mediterranean. Base yourself at the Anassa in Cyprus, a stylish haven and one of the world’s most beautiful 5* hotels.

AN ITALIAN AFFAIR

This year, we want to tempt you to take the opportunity to explore the breath-taking beauty of skiing in the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can then continue your Italian love affair with a city break in Venice, soaking up the sights and sounds of this unique and magical city.

With the majestic columns of the Dolomites as your backdrop, 1200km of pistes to ski and mountain huts serving food worthy of a Michelin star, indulgence awaits at every turn in San Cassiano. Having dined in style during your stay at the Rosa Alpina, leave the mountains behind and head for Venice, to explore the unique maze of narrow streets and winding canals.

Resort facts and figures

Resort altitude: 1850m

Highest point: 3480m

Vertical drop: 1930m

Ski areas: Espace Killy, combining Tignes and Val d’Isère.

Pistes: 300km

Best for: Early and late season skiing, as one of Europe’s highest altitude resorts. Great for more advanced skiers although there is plenty to keep beginners and intermediates entertained. Quite a lot of the blue runs are on the upper slopes.

On the mountainLocated in the expansive Espace Killy, with quick links to neighbouring Tignes, there is enough skiing here to keep skiers of all standards challenged and entertained for a lifetime, let alone a week. While intermediates are spoilt for choice when it comes to fast blues and challenging reds, advanced skiers will love the off-piste terrain available, as well as the ferocious ‘La Face’ piste, a multitude of mogul fields and the famous ‘OK’ piste. If you are a beginner, the ‘Tranquille’ ski areas are the perfect runs to find your feet.

Off the mountainRenowned worldwide, Val d’Isère has far more to offer than just skiing. The Centre Aquasportif features two swimming pools, a climbing wall, multi-activity sports hall, fitness suite, gym and squash courts; as well as a wellness area with a sauna, steam bath, spa, cold baths and hydro-massage. There are also plenty of walking trails on offer, as well as husky sledding, skidooing, cross-country skiing and paragliding.

Après, dining and nightlifeWith over 60 restaurants, numerous bars and three nightclubs, Val d’Isère offers plenty of choice for anything from enjoying an après-ski beer at the foot of the slopes, to partying into the early hours. Favourite après bars include the Folie Douce at the top of the ‘OK’ run, with live music from 3-5pm, Café Face, Doudounne’s Le Chalet, which is situated at the bottom of the Solaise run and Rosée Blanche in La Daille, which is a good option if you want a quiet drink.

Family and ski schoolThere are over 20 ski schools to choose from, as well as over 30 independent instructors. Children’s holiday villages, nurseries and childcare assistants are also available and of course our exclusive Scott Dunn Explorers club can be booked by both our chalet and hotel guests.

Resort facts and figures

Resort altitude: 1850m

Highest point: 2738m

Vertical drop: 1438m

Ski areas: Part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest ski area in the world. Includes six other resorts: Méribel, La Tania, Les Menuires, Saint Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle.

Pistes: 150km (600km for Les Trois Vallées)

Best for: Easy runs close to the village, steeper runs and plenty of off-piste terrain further up the mountain and a wealth of blue and red runs make the resort area great for skiers of all levels.

On the mountainWith a fast and efficient lift system linking to Méribel and Val Thorens, guests staying in Courchevel can enjoy access to one of the most exciting and extensive ski areas in the world. Across Les Trois Vallées you can cover miles and miles of fabulous terrain each day, while in the Courchevel ski area alone, beginners will love the gentle slopes running through the trees and mixed-ability groups have a wealth of blues and reds to play on together. There are plenty of black runs too, as well as off-piste opportunities for more advanced skiers, along with challenging couloirs and mogul fields.

Off the mountainApart from its magnificent slopes, Courchevel has plenty more to offer. We thoroughly recommend going for a flight from the famous altiport or testing your culinary skills on a cookery course with Michel Rochedy, the double Michelin-starred chef from Le Chabichou. The toboggan run to 1550 is another favourite. There is a farmers’ market on Wednesdays and the Forum is home to an Olympic ice rink, bowling alley, climbing wall and small gym. Paragliding, horse-drawn carriage rides, forest walks, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, ice karting and hot-air balloon rides are also on offer.

Après, dining and nightlifeCourchevel has a fantastic array of refined restaurants, piano bars, cocktail bars and nightclubs. Après-ski commences on the mountain at the Cap Horn or the Pilatus where there are resident DJs. There are six Michelin-starred restaurants between Le Praz 1300 and Courchevel 1850, as well as numerous other restaurants to suit every palate. The two main nightclubs are La Grange and Les Caves.

Family and ski schoolThere are five main ski schools, all of which offer English-speaking instructors and plenty of independent instructors too. The Village des Enfants (Ecole du Ski Français) has a crèche that takes skiers from 2½ years old. Of course, both chalet and hotel guests can take advantage of our own private Scott Dunn nannies.

Resort facts and figures

Resort altitude: 1304m

Highest point: 2811m

Vertical drop: 1507m

Ski areas: The Arlberg ski pass covers St Anton, St Christoph, Lech, Zurs and Sonnenkopf.

Pistes: 250km

Best for: Good and advanced skiers. Beginner areas are on the lower slopes. The Rendl gondola has made the skiing for intermediates more accessible.

On the mountainSt Anton offers some of the best off-piste terrain anywhere in the world. Without a guide, you will barely scratch the surface so we recommend Piste to Powder for excellent off-piste guiding. Heli-skiing is also available here and for those who love skiing but hate the cold, the Arlberg ski area has a number of chair lifts with heated seats. While some of the terrain can be challenging for those with only a few weeks experience, the Rendl area offers some easier runs along with plenty of sun.

Off the mountainWith fabulous Tyrolean hospitality oozing from every pore, St Anton exudes character and charm. The village itself offers the quintessential Alpine experience and there is a wealth of good restaurants and shops to enjoy. The St Anton Wellness centre, the Well.com, is also a must for anyone who likes to be pampered, beating most other resorts hands down when it comes to spa facilities. It has an indoor swimming pool, paddling pool, outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor tennis, an ice rink, a fabulous gym, sauna, steam and massage rooms and sun beds.

Après, dining and nightlifeSt Anton’s après-ski is legendary. Finish a great day on the slopes with drinks at the Krazy Kanguruh or the Mooserwirt – arguably the best après-ski venue in the world. Eating out and drinking in St Anton is great value compared to many other premier Alpine resorts – and we think Austrian service and hospitality is the best in the Alps. The bars are alive from mid-afternoon until early morning, so there is always somewhere to go if you want a party.

Family and ski schoolThe Arlberg Ski School is particularly good for young children. There are good nursery slopes and a dedicated children’s area too. St Anton is one of our chalet resorts, so we offer Scott Dunn childcare to all our chalet and hotel guests.

Resort facts and figures

Resort altitude: 1620m

Highest point: 3899m

Vertical drop: 2279m

Ski areas: Three areas: Rothorn, Gornergrat and Matterhorn glacier, as well as access to Cervinia and Valtournenche.

Pistes: 350km

Best for: Intermediate, advanced and expert skiers but with several beginner areas.

On the mountain A lot of the skiing here is high-altitude, with runs above 3000m. Intermediates will love the varied blue and red runs, some through the valleys where you can enjoy incredible views, some along wooded paths and some on the glacier with the magnificent Matterhorn towering beside. Meanwhile, experts can enjoy various blacks and more challenging terrain can be found off piste and although Zermatt is not famous for being a beginner’s resort, it has recently opened two new beginner areas. Zermatt is on the Swiss/Italian border too, so you have the option of skiing into Cervinia in Italy for the day.

Off the mountainAs well as having a wonderful atmosphere all year round, Zermatt is a fantastic cultural centre. The village itself is a pleasure to explore (especially by horse-drawn carriage) and there are all sorts of little shops to browse, fabulous restaurants, historic buildings and a museum.

You can travel up the mountain by train for dinner at the top, enjoy wonderful walks on foot or on snowshoes and there is an ice grotto to explore. There is also a fitness centre, ice rink, paragliding, ice climbing and tobogganing or for something truly thrilling, try a moonlit ski down the mountain or a breath-taking helicopter flight around the stunning Matterhorn.

Après, dining and nightlifeThere is a wonderful buzz in Zermatt and you can normally find a live band playing during après-ski hours at one of the many bars. When it comes to dining out, you are also spoilt for choice: there are over 100 restaurants serving everything from Asian, Mexican, Italian and Thai, to traditional Alpine Swiss fare.

Family and ski schoolFor young skiers, there is a large ski school catering for all ski abilities and Wolli’s snow park near the Sunnegga Paradise station. With plenty of other activities on offer for the whole family to enjoy, Zermatt has so much to do both on and off the slopes. Childcare is available for our chalet and hotel junior guests with our Scott Dunn private nannies.

We have put together a collection of hotels in the Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees which have been handpicked because they offer something special. In the Alps, we have cast our net further across the Three Valleys to include the top hotels in Meribel and are featuring two fabulous properties in Val Thorens – the stunning Altapura and the brand new Koh-I Nor. Staying in the French Alps, we are now featuring the glamorous resort of Megève, an ideal choice for intermediate skiers and families with its short transfer time from Geneva.

Over in Austria, our collection of hotels in the Arlberg region encompasses Lech, Zurs and St Christoph; each one offering warm and friendly hospitality which the Austrians are renowned for.

However, it’s the Dolomites that have really got us excited this year, which is why we have decided to expand our portfolio in San Cassiano in the Alta Badia region and also include the glitzy resort of Madonna di Campiglio for the first time.

Skiing in the Dolomites is unlike anywhere else as the backdrop of the towering columns of the majestic mountains simply takes your breath away. Couple that with lots of mouth-watering cuisine, plush accommodation and extensive skiing for all standards and you have got all the ingredients you need for a perfect ski holiday.

Skiing in North America is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime, whatever their standard, quite simply because it is so different to skiing in Europe. The snow record speaks for itself and for most, this alone is a good enough reason to go. But it is the all-round experience which makes it unmissable with the enthusiasm and dedication to service apparent at every turn. English speaking instructors, minimal lift queues and ski runs that are prepared with such fanaticism that it borders on obsession, all await you.

Above all though, skiing here is friendly and everyone you encounter, from your fellow chairlift passengers to your waiter, genuinely wants you to have a great stay. Many of North America’s well known resorts are small by European standards and we have focused on the best ones that we believe justify the trip. Aspen, Beaver Creek, Jackson Hole, Vail and Whistler could scarcely be more different to one another but all are outstanding in their own right. Finally, for the ski trip you will never forget, heli-skiing in British Columbia is out of this world.

There comes a time in every skier’s life when you feel the need to try something new and experience something quite unlike anything you have ever done before. Welcome to the world of heli-skiing. The adrenaline starts pumping with the first thud of the rotor blades and you are whisked off on an exhilarating ride to places where vast fields of beautiful virgin powder lie waiting for you. The common misconception is that you have to be an expert to go heli-skiing, but we have taken

great care to select heli-ski partners who cater for skiers at a good intermediate skiing level, who feel confident skiing a red run in any conditions. When it comes to taking the plunge and booking this incredible experience of a lifetime, it’s our in-depth knowledge and carefully selected heliski operators that enable us to get this right. It’s more than just taking a helicopter to ski off-piste for a day, it’s about experiencing something utterly exhilarating with professionals at the top of

their game, that gives you the chance to obliterate the norm and experience the unbelievable. For example, Last Frontier Heli-skiing gives you access to the largest single heli-ski area on the planet and small groups not only mean more room to make your fresh tracks, but the chance to ski at your own pace with no pressure. Gliding through blankets of pristine powder day after day is something that all skiers should experience, at least once in a lifetime.

Resort facts and figures

Resort altitude: 2422m

Highest point: 3813m

Vertical drop: 1340m

Ski areas: Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass.

Pistes: 336

Best for: Couples and adult groups looking for varied skiing and vibrant nightlife will love Aspen. Families with younger children and less advanced skiers would enjoy Snowmass.

On the mountain Aspen Snowmass is made up of four separate ski areas – Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass (which accounts for just over half the ski area). The skiing above Aspen itself is reasonably steep and challenging and while intermediates will manage it, only fairly strong skiers will do the leg burningly long groomers or more challenging diamond and double diamond black runs justice. Aspen Highlands, the locals’ favourite, offers similar terrain but is groomed less frequently. Buttermilk offers two extremes – gentle green runs for beginners and enormous snowpark features for avid freestylers, whilst on the other side, Snowmass is a great alternative for beginners and intermediates. Good skiers would be encouraged to get the frequent bus around to get the most from the ski area.

Off the mountainAspen is an historic town dating back to the 19th century silver rush. It is full of character and culture and has become renowned as both a great ski town and a magnet for the wealthy and famous. For those wanting something a little less active, Aspen has a great selection of shops, boutiques and interesting galleries.

Après, dining and nightlifeAspen is a great place to party and you could find yourself rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars – Goldie Hawn and Jack Nicholson are two Aspen locals. Après-ski is focused around the Ajax Tavern and 39 Degrees at the Sky Hotel and the restaurant scene is thriving: Matsuhisa is renowned for its fine sushi, Steakhouse No 316 is gaining a great reputation and Jimmy’s is more down-to-earth and usually busy with locals. The J-Bar at the Jerome is an iconic drinking venue where Hunter S Thompson used to ride his horse into the bar, and for live music, Belly Up is a tiny venue which attracts huge names such as Snoop Dogg and the B-52s.

Family and ski schoolWhilst Aspen is brilliant for older children, we thoroughly recommend Snowmass for families with children of all ages. The Treehouse, a children’s centre at the base of the lifts, is the hub of Snowmass’ kids’ programmes. Group lessons start from just 2 ½ year olds with ‘Cubs on Skis’ and go right through to teen groups and ‘teen steep’ camps.

Ski areas: Beaver Creek & Bachelor Gulch

Pistes: 149

Best for: All standards of skier. Beaver Creek is particularly family-friendly and the children’s ski school area is fantastic.

On the mountain Beaver Creek is often called Vail’s little sister but the variety of terrain means it punches well above its weight. Beginners and intermediates can spend days on end finding different ways down Strawberry Express and to Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead. Advanced skiers will be entertained in the Larkspur Bowl, on Centennial and in the Rose Bowl. Meanwhile experts can pit themselves against the fearsome Birds of Prey World Cup downhill course before hunting for fresh powder in the glades off Grouse Mountain and the Stone Creek chutes.

Off the mountainSmall and exclusive, Beaver Creek is firmly aimed at ease for families, with everything within easy reach of the accommodation. There is an ice rink in the heart of the village and tubing at ‘the Ranch’ at the top of the Buckaroo Express gondola.

Après, dining and nightlifeLow-key and relaxed, après-ski is unpretentious and down-to-earth. ‘Coyote Café’ is a locals’ favourite for Colorado microbrews and a range of margaritas! Family-friendly restaurants include ‘The Dusty Boot’, a cowboy saloon with a good choice of steaks and the ‘Blue Moose’ for pizzas. ‘Splendido at the Chateau’ is a refined option for contemporary American whilst a must-do is a visit to Spago, Wolfgang Puck’s flagship restaurant in Bachelor Gulch for imaginative gourmet cuisine. For a great winter experience, head up the mountain on a sleigh pulled by a snowcat to dine at Beano’s Cabin.

Family and ski schoolThe Wild West themed children’s ski school area in Beaver Creek is brilliant – it will be difficult getting kids out of the ‘Okee Dokee Korral’ and ‘the Ranch’! Ski areas: Front Side, Back Bowls

Pistes: 193

Best for: All standards of skier. There is a wide range of green, blue and black diamond runs and everything from perfectly groomed trails to fantastic tree skiing and wonderful powder skiing in the back bowls.

On the mountain With a state of the art express lift system (with the friendliest lift staff around), guests staying in Vail can cover miles and miles of fabulous terrain each day. It is well worth starting the holiday with Vail’s complimentary Mountain Tour – a ‘get to know the mountain’ tour – useful for orientation for the rest of the week. The ‘Front Side’ offers a wide range of green, blue and black diamond runs for all standards – many runs are groomed daily into perfect ‘corduroy’ while moguls are allowed to build up on others to challenge stronger skiers. Beginners are well catered for at Golden Peak and for advanced skiers, Vail’s ‘Back Bowls’ offer huge open terrain and some great powder skiing.

Off the mountainVail Village is the main centre – as the name would suggest, there is a real ‘village’ feel and the pedestrianised centre combines atmosphere with proximity to the ski slopes and the gondola. Lionshead is smaller than Vail Village, the focal point being Vail Square which is attractive and full of charm with plenty of shops, sunny terraces, restaurants and the outdoor ice rink.

Après, dining and nightlifeWhile Vail is clearly a ‘premier’ ski resort, there are plenty of reasonable and down-to-earth bars and restaurants which we find hugely refreshing (and in marked contrast to some of skiing’s other ‘premier’ destinations). Pepi’s in Vail village is a lively spot from which to watch skiers tackle Pepi’s Face black run into the resort and Garfinkels in Lionshead has a good sundeck and DJ. Sweet Basil is great for unpretentious fine dining and then carry on into the night at Los Amigos.

Family and ski schoolChildren of all ages are really given lots of attention at ski school and are split by age and ability. Lessons are of a very high standard and focus on all sorts of terrain to build up children’s confidence on the slopes. The teen programmes are simply ‘too cool for school’! For adults, it is well worth booking a private instructor; they can take up to five people, which makes them good value.

Ski areas: Jackson Hole (Rendezvous and Après Vous mountains) with alternative passes available for Grand Targhee and Snow King Mountain

Pistes: 116

Best for: Experienced and intermediate skiers and especially off-piste fanatics.

On the mountain The Teton mountain range is easily recognisable to most skiing fanatics who will have seen it feature in countless ski movies. Boasting more steep terrain than anywhere else in North America, not to mention a great snow record, Jackson Hole should feature on any keen skier’s ‘bucket list’. The Hobacks and Corbet’s Couloir are highlights to get the adrenaline pumping. Do not be put off if you are not an expert though, as anyone who is comfortable in Val d’Isère or St Anton has nothing to fear and Après Vous mountain has more intermediate runs.

Off the mountainJackson Hole is a proper cowboy town with a real sense of history and it is well worth taking time to explore it. Only slightly further afield, the Yellowstone National Park is a natural winter wonderland and a tour by snowmobile or dog sled, a great way to see the geysers, bison, eagles and bears, is not to be missed.

Après, dining and nightlifeThe town of Jackson has more character than most of the other resorts in North America put together, with live Country & Western music, line dancing, pool halls and even galleries to entertain you after skiing. As you would expect, great steaks are guaranteed but Jackson has become more sophisticated in recent years and there is a good range of other cuisines on offer too.

Family and ski schoolBecause of the extraordinary terrain at Jackson Hole, as well as normal ski schools, there are specific camps available for ‘steep and deep’ and guides who can take you deep into the backcountry. For children, there are some easy runs and the ‘Kids’ Ranch’ looks after children from three to 17 years old.

Teenagers will love the Ride Tribe programmes and free weekly Fire and Ice shows with DJs and plenty of stunts. Extremely Canadian holds highly rated two-day steep skiing clinics for intermediates and advanced skiers.

GETTING ThErE

British AirwaysOur British Airways partnership ensures that you will be looked after and enjoy a fabulous flying experience. Their understated British elegance and established reputation mean we feel confident that you will travel in comfort and style.

Transfers for chalet guestsIf you are staying in one of our Flagship chalets, you will be met at the airport by a Scott Dunn representative before boarding a luxury private mini-coach to your resort. Guests staying in Original and Premier ski chalets board a luxury coach to their

resort, however we can organise a private transfer as an optional extra if you prefer. We know that the journey up to resort can often be long and arduous which is why we make it as comfortable and relaxing as possible by providing a picnic and plenty of refreshments. We will use the time to come and chat to you about ski hire and lift passes, answer any questions you may have and make sure that everything is organised for you.

Transfers for hotel guestsIf you are staying in one of our luxury ski hotels, we will arrange a private transfer for you at the

time of booking. For certain hotels, shared coach transfers may also be possible.

Helicopter transfersIf you would like your holiday to start in style, let us arrange a helicopter transfer from the airport, rather than a standard inclusive road transfer. Enjoy the sheer glamour of a spectacular and fast track arrival into your resort, as well as breath-taking views over the mountains.
