Zero UI
• Essentially a catch all term for screen-less experiences
• First coined by designer Andy Goodman, formerly at Accenture’s Interactive agency – Fjord
• The goal of Zero UI is to get computers to respond to body language and human speech rather than humans needing to learn how to communicate with computers
API
• An API is an Application Programming Interface
• API is an intermediary that allows application programs to communicate, interact, and share data with various operating systems or other control programs
• The API Economy describes how development and use of APIs can transform business model and transform industries
Zero UI and API – huh?
4/28/2017 Experian Public Vision 2017
All teams will expose their data and
functionality through service
interfaces. The only communication
allowed is via service interface calls
over the network… All service
interfaces, without exception, must
be designed from the ground up
to be externalizable. No exceptions.
Anyone who doesn’t do this
will be fired.

We have seen the use of software evolve over time from automation of tasks to intelligent apps to now Intelligent Things
• Gartner estimates there will be 21 billion connected end points between devices by 2020
• This blurs the distinction between the digital and physical worlds
• Digital becomes representation of the physical
• The Digital Twin phenomenon
– Digital companions of physical assets
– Example: Data from sensors installed on physical objects to represent their real-time status
Key trend Intelligent Things

Increasingly, decision making is a product of artificial intelligence
• Neural networks – train and learn systems
• Machine learning
• Predictive analytics
• Speech recognition
• Natural language parsing
• Many more to come
Result is actionable, real-time insights
Key trend Data-driven Decisioning

• By 2020, 30% of internet browsing will be done using a screenless interface
• Trend started with virtual assistants – Siri, Cortana
• Now has expanded to Alexa, Echo, and Google Home
• Screenless is a trend – Amazon Dash – Taking the “e” out of e-commerce
• Common theme for all these interfaces is the availability of APIs to power integration between applications and systems
• As devices replace screens and conversation replaces interfaces, API is the new screen less user interface
Key trend Conversational and screen-less interfaces

The Experian solution Integral part of a robust enterprise environment
4/28/2017 Experian Public Vision 2017
Apigee supports all API needs across Experian’s global business lines by providing: • Underlying infrastructure and systems • Developer tools and documentation • Management and reporting • Usage metering, monitoring, and throttling
As APIs are registered into the platform,
we’ll collect insights into existing APIs and
standards upon which to develop new ones
©Experian 35
• APIs will make it quick and easy for customers, partners and developers to access and use our resources and assets (data, decisioning, etc.)
• The API experience will be standardised across the Experian division/products/services
• APIs will be reliable and quick, bug-free
– SLAs, real time status updates and availability/planned activity need to be made public on the API developer portal
• Users will be able to self-serve and sign-up online and start using the service straight away
An API is a product, not a technology Key factors
4/28/2017 Experian Public Vision 2017
• Documentation will be available online, up-to-date clear and accurate
– Code examples and a sandbox or test console will be provided for users to trial our services
– Forums and email support will be available
• We will use modern and recognised industry standards and aim to keep things simple (Json, REST, XML)
– Sample code will be made available
• Communication with clients will be as part of the product releases / support (API roadmap, new releases / versions, planned maintenance, change log and release notes)
©Experian 36
It has a shop window (‘developer portal’) visible to two audiences:
• For prospects/clients/businesses to discover our offerings
• For developers to understand how to consume them
It has a playground (the ‘sandbox’) for developers:
• Developers can self-sign-up in minutes
• And start writing queries, testing them straight from the browser
• And quickly code in the language of their choice exercising real API calls
It has to be helpful; “make it easy”
• Each offering will show examples and sample code to be copy-pasted into several languages for immediate experimentation (and gratification !)
• Show searchable FAQ’s, forums, links to github, stackoverflow; success stories, blogs
So, What does an API look like?
