Embraer booked a firm order from SkyWest, a regional carrier oper-ating domestic routes for larger airlines, for 40 E175 regional jets, to be delivered in 2014 and 2015, and options for up to 160 more.

Eurocopter to supply EC225 and AS350 B3e helicopters to China’s State Grid General Aviation Company

China’s largest helicopter operator in the power and electricity sectors, the State Grid General Aviation Company (SGGAC), ordered one EC225 and two AS350 B3e rotorcraft to support the country’s electrical grid develop-ment and build the Chinese company’s busi-ness into other airlift duties. As the wholly-owned subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China, one of the world’s largest electric-ity providers, SGGAC is now expanding its helicopter business scope into aerial survey, emergency rescue, passenger and freight transportation, infrastructure construction and scientific experimentation.

Fourth AW139 VIP to join UK & Ire-land corporate fleet

Finmeccanica reported the sale of the fourth AW139 intermediate twin helicopter for cor-porate transport in the UK & Ireland. This lat-est sale continues the success of the AW139 in the UK & Ireland corporate helicopter mar-ket in the last two years. The helicopter will be delivered in 2014 to an undisclosed cus-tomer. Almost 40 AW139 helicopters have been sold across Europe for VIP, corporate and government transport roles.

Aeromexico announces the addition of Embraer 175 planes to its fleet

Aeromexico, Mexico’s global airline, an-nounced the addition of three Embraer 175 planes to its fleet, making it the first national airline in the country to operate this modern aircraft. Rolls-Royce won an order from US leasing company CIT Aerospace for Trent XWB en-gines, to power ten Airbus A350 XWB aircraft and Trent 700 engines to power 13 Air-bus A330 aircraft. The Trent XWB engines will power ten CIT A350 aircraft that were announced in January 2013 which were in addition to five A350 XWB aircraft already on order. The Trent XWB, spe-cifically designed for the Airbus A350, is the fastest selling Trent engine ever, with more than 1,200 already sold. The engine variant that will power the A350-800 and -900 was awarded Eu-ropean Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification in Feb-ruary. Boeing begins certification testing on 747-8 performance improvements

A Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental successfully completed its first test flight this week with a package of performance improvements in-cluding enhanced GE engines. This package is designed to improve the fuel efficiency of the popular jetliner. The airplane Perform-ance Improvement Package (PIP) includes improvements to the GEnx-2B engines and Flight Management Computer (FMC) soft-ware. Boeing’s continuous efforts to im-prove the 747-8 family have resulted in an accumulated 1.5% gain in fuel efficiency

since the first airplane was delivered less than two years ago. These new improve-ments will give operators an airplane that is an additional 1.8% more efficient.

SkyWest signs agreement with Em-braer for 100 firm and 100 options E175 Regional Jets

SkyWest entered into an agreement with Embraer for the purchase of 100 new E175 dual-class regional jet aircraft. Of the 100 aircraft, 40 are considered firm deliveries and the remaining 60 aircraft are considered conditional until SkyWest enters into capac-ity purchase agreements with other major airlines to operate the aircraft. Deliveries for the 40 firm aircraft are anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2014 and continue through mid 2015. The aircraft will be con-figured in 76 seats in dual-class. The agree-ment also includes options for an additional 100 E175 aircraft and would be valued at $8.3bn if all 200 aircraft are ordered. The initial 40 firm aircraft outlined above will be operated by SkyWest Airlines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SkyWest, under a new agreement with United Airlines.

Virgin Australia takes delivery of new Boeing 737-800 from ILFC

International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) has delivered a new Boeing 737-800 to Virgin Australia. This aircraft is the first of three new 737-800s ILFC is scheduled to deliver to Virgin Australia this year. The aircraft are intended to support the strategic fleet renewal at Virgin Australia. This new aircraft is also the third of the total of five aircraft, which are part of a purchase leaseback agreement between ILFC and Virgin Australia. ILFC completed deliveries of the initial two aircraft in 2012.

Fifth FAA-conforming HondaJet achieves first flight

Honda Aircraft Company released that its fifth Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conforming HondaJet, equipped with a pro-duction interior matching the final customer aircraft, successfully completed its first flight on May 16, 2013 at the company’s world headquarters in Greensboro, N.C. With this achievement, the HondaJet program ap-proaches the final phase of flight testing as the company advances toward FAA aircraft

certification. This aircraft will be used for function and reliability (F&R) testing. F&R testing will simulate in-service flight op-erations of the aircraft. It has a production interior with standard lavatory and options including a side-facing seat, and will be used for interior and cabin systems tests. Future testing on the aircraft will also analyze the controller-pilot data link communications (CPDLC).

Erickson Air-Crane purchases five air-craft

Erickson Air-Crane reported that its wholly owned subsidiary, Evergreen Helicopters, has acquired five aircraft for $10.1m that it has historically leased from a third-party. The ac-quired aircraft include two Bell 214STs, two Beechcraft 1900Ds and one Casa 212-CC. The Company’s total fleet size remains un-changed at 85 aircraft, now comprised of 35 leased and 50 owned aircraft.

GE Honda Aero Engines approaches final HF120 certification test

GE Honda Aero Engines is nearing com-pletion of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification testing on its HF120 engine. In the last six months, the HF120 engine successfully completed crosswind testing and the 150-hour block endurance test. The final remaining test, the medium bird ingestion, is scheduled for completion in July. More than 95% of the certification documents to the FAA have been submit-ted with more than 84% already approved. A total of 13 HF120 engines have accumu-lated more than 7,300 hours and more than 9,700 cycles during development and cer-tification testing at nine different test loca-tions. This included accumulation of 3,000

cycles on one engine as part of its endur-ance validation program. The validation pro-gram simulates flight cycles, and the engine will serve as the fleet leader, well ahead of entry-into-service. The supply chain is ram-ping up for HF120 engine production with components being stocked. GE’s facility in Lynn, Mass. is responsible for initial produc-tion. Production will transition to the Honda Aero Inc.’s facility in Burlington, N.C., soon after certification of the HF120.

Heli Asset places first Eurocopter EC155B1 into Switzerland with Heli-Link

Leading helicopter brokerage Heli Asset has sold the first Eurocopter EC155B1 (Serial No 6791) into Switzerland. Zurich-based busi-ness aviation charter operator Heli-Link, sis-ter company to Jet-Link and now subsidiary company of DC Aviation of Germany, took delivery of the 2008-build model, configured with eight VIP seats and newly registered as HB-ZOL, this week. It will be available for third party charter with immediate effect, joining an existing EC-120B in the fleet.

Vertis Aviation adds two additional ultra-long range jet aircraft to fleet

Switzerland-based Vertis Aviation, part of the independently owned aviation business the 28 East Group, announced a significant expansion to its exclusively marketed charter fleet with the addition of two new aircraft. The Airbus A319 Corporate Jet and the Bombardier Global XRS will be exclusively marketed and available for charter through Vertis Aviation AG from 1 August 2013. The aircraft, which are based at Moscow’s Vnu-kovo Airport, will strengthen Vertis’ offering for its Russian client base.

BOC Aviation signs news five-year aircraft maintenance agreement with ST Aerospace

BOC Aviation entered into a new five-year agreement with ST Aerospace to maintain Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 airframes. The two companies have had a business relation-ship since 1996. BOC Aviation has in place a framework of support services from airframe and engine maintenance and repair opera-tors (“MROs”) and technical services when the Company repossesses aircraft. ST Aero-space, a leading aviation engineering and MRO service provider, has a global network to support BOC Aviation. ST Aerospace has been instrumental in assisting the transition of an A319-100 (MSN 2664) for delivery to Bangkok Airways during which it carried out a heavy C-check, repairs, parts replacement, reconfiguration and re-painting, to meet the standards for a smooth transition of the air-craft to the new operator.

UTair Aviation selects AJW Aviation for power-by-the-hour support

AJW Aviation, the leading independent com-plete aircraft spares support specialist, was selected by Russian airline JSC UTair Aviation, to provide power-by-the-hour support for its fleet of thirty-seven B737-500 and B737-400 aircraft. The PBH contract, supported by ATA Chapter, also includes a large home base stock purchase, which will bring the combined fleet that AJW has under PBH or pooling contract to over 400 aircraft globally. AJW will support the airline from its network of strategic hubs across Europe and the rest of the world, which comprise service ready Boeing and Airbus component inventories valued at almost $500m.

GE Aviation investing $27m to ex-pand advanced technology efforts in Delaware

GE Aviation plans to invest $27m and add up to 70 jobs over the next five years at its Newark, Delaware facility. The facility, which currently employs 80, manufactures advanced aircraft engine components made of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). The planned in-vestment will allow GE to develop a ‘Lean Lab’ at its Newark operation. Lean Labs have be-come a staple of GE manufacturing, allowing for collaboration between engineering and manufacturing. The teams work together to demonstrate a component’s manufacturing readiness before needing to scale for full rate production. Production technologies for CMC components will be developed and proven out in Newark prior to transitioning to manufac-

NetJets announced as official worldwide launch partner of the new Bombardier Challenger 350 aircraft

NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway com-pany, was announced as the inter-national launch partner of the new Bombardier Challenger 350 aircraft at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland. To mark the introduction of the Challenger 350 and to welcome the aircraft to the NetJets Signature Series, a mock-up of the all-new super midsize Bombar-dier jet was unveiled at the event. The NetJets Signature Series Challenger 350 aircraft will join the NetJets fleet in 2014 and is part of NetJets’ 10-year fleet plan to add up to 670 new products with a total value of $17.6bn over the next decade.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics was selected by Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy to provide Crane’s brake control system with antiskid functionality for the C-2A Greyhound cargo aircraft. Crane’s Brake Control System will be part of the C-2A Greyhound Improved Braking System Program. According to the Naval Air Systems Command, the goal of the program is to improve stopping performance and ground controllability of the C-2A air-craft through the addition of antiskid control to its current brake system. Comlux Aviation Services, the US based maintenance and refurbishment center of Com-lux the Aviation Group, was awarded a scheduled maintenance and cabin rework con-tract from Jet Premier One Malaysia, for an Airbus ACJ319. The maintenance program of the six-year old aircraft includes mandatory C4 and six year-checks and painting. The aircraft is operated and maintained by Jet Premier One based in Kuala Lumpur. It will arrive at Comlux Aviation Services facilities, mid June 2013.

The ra-domes will be manufactured with advanced Norton Armor materials from Saint-Gobain that provide superior radar transparency and in-flight durability. “Saint-Gobain has been the radome supplier to the PC-12 for more than 20 years and we are excited to join with Pilatus on the new PC-24 business jet program,” says Eric Evennou, Sales man-ager, Europe, for Saint-Gobain Aerospace.

328 and Turkish Technic complete first joint conversion project

328, part of the 328 Group, successfully com-pleted in partnership with Turkish Technic an extensive Gulfstream GIV interior refurbish-ment for the Turkish Government. This marks the first project in collaboration with Turkish Technic, which forms part of a wider agree-ment to work together on design and certifi-cation projects. The first collaboration proved so successful that it grew from the original remit, to undertake simple modifications to the aircraft and support certification of de-sign and materials selected by Turkish Tech-nic, to a much more complex project.

VistaJet enrolls fleet of new Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft en-gines and APUs onto JSSI hourly cost maintenance programs

VistaJet International and Jet Support Serv-ices (JSSI) have agreed to a record-setting enrollment of 50 Bombardier Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft onto JSSI’s Plati-num Engine and APU hourly cost mainte-nance programs. The long-term agreement is valued at over $205m based on JSSI 2013 list prices. The aircraft are part of VistaJet’s large order placed in November 2012 about 56 firm orders for Bombardier Global Jets and options for an additional 86 Global air-craft. The transaction was valued at more than $7.8bn and deliveries will commence in 2014.

Bombardier boosts capabilities at Amsterdam Service Centre through series of on-site support agreements

Bombardier business jet operators in Europe will soon have access to a broader range of superior quality aircraft services through Bombardier’s wholly owned Amsterdam Service Centre at Amsterdam-Schiphol International Airport. Bombardier will add en-gine services, interior refurbishment and aircraft cleaning and detailing services to its already comprehensive line and heavy maintenance offering for Learjet, Challenger and Global business jets. The following agreements are set to take effect in the second half of 2013:

• Dallas Airmotive, a BBA Aviation Company has been contracted to provide engine support for the Learjet 30, Learjet 40, Learjet 50, Learjet 60 Series and the Challenger 300 aircraft. The services will include scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, light repairs, major overhauls, hot section inspections and foreign object damage repairs.

• Aircraft interior refurbishment specialists, OHS Aviation Services of Berlin, have signed an agreement to create custom interiors and perform cabin repairs on all Bombardier business jet models.

• The Allen Groupe, with operations in Europe and the U.S., has signed an agreement to provide aircraft cleaning, detailing and paint repair services on all Bombardier busi-ness aircraft models.

• Lufthansa Technik’s Innovation Business Unit was selected by Bombardier Aerospace to supply cabin management and in-flight-entertainment (CMS/IFE) sys-tems on its new Challenger 350 aircraft program. This latest announcement comes after Bombardier’s selection of the nice HD system on the Learjet 70, Learjet 75 and the Learjet 85 aircraft programs. So far, Lufthansa Technik has delivered more than 300 shipsets of the first generation nice and its successor, nice HD, to Bombardier Aerospace.

• Aircell, a leading provider of in-flight connectivity equipment and services to the business aviation market, signed an agreement with P3 Voith Aerospace GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, to develop several new Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for the Aviator 200 in-flight connectivity system in the European market. Under the program, Aircell will provide complete, no-cost STCs to operators installing an Avia-tor 200 system at an authorized Aircell Dealer and activating a new SwiftBroadband service plan with Aircell. Plans for the first STC in the program are now being final-ized, and the company is seeking aircraft to be used as the certification platform for future STCs.

US Airways announces pricing of trust certificates and senior notes

• US Airways announced that it priced an of-fering of Class C enhanced equipment trust certificates in the aggregate face amount of approximately $100m. This offering is an ad-ditional issuance from the Company’s Series 2012-2 series of enhanced equipment trust certificates, under which an offering of Class A certificates and Class B certificates closed on December 13, 2012. The Company intends to use the proceeds from the offering to reim-burse the Company for the cost of the pur-chase of two Airbus aircraft currently owned by the Company and two Airbus aircraft scheduled to be delivered to the Company pri-or to the date of issuance of the Certificates, to finance its purchase of seven Airbus aircraft scheduled to be delivered from June 2013 to October 2013 and to use the balance, if any, for general corporate purposes. The $100m financing is comprised of Class C certificates with a final expected distribution date of June 3, 2018. The Certificates are expected to be issued on June 6, 2013, subject to customary closing conditions. Goldman, Sachs & Co. act-ed as sole structuring agent and bookrunner for the offering.

• The Group announced the pricing of $500m of its 6.125% Senior Notes due 2018, which represents an increase of $100m from the previously announced size of the offering. The notes will be general unsecured senior obliga-tions of US Airways. The Company intends to use the proceeds from the senior notes offer-ing for general corporate purposes. Citigroup, Barclays, Goldman Sachs & Co., Morgan Stanley, and Credit Suisse acted as the joint book-running managers for the offering.

Colorado-based Air Comm Corporation (ACC) completed the acquisition of Texas based Meggitt (Addison), formerly Keith Products. Air Comm Corporation is a world leader in engineered design and manufac-ture of Environmental Control Systems (ECS) used by military and civil rotorcraft and gen-eral aviation fixed wing aircraft. The nearly 30 year old family-owned business now has over 60 active Federal Aviation Administra-tion Supplemental Type Certificates and OEM Type Certificates including heating and air-conditioning systems for over a dozen OEM manufacturers including: Bell, Sikor-sky, Eurocopter, AgustaWestland, Enstrom, Beechcraft, Cessna, Learjet, Piaggio, Pilatus, and KAI.

Atlanta-based Precision Aviation Group (PAG) released that Gardner Aviation Serv-ices (GAS) has changed the company name to Precision Aviation Services (PAS). “This name change is the last in a series of name changes to our existing operating compa-nies to identify and align each business as a member of the Precision Aviation Group of Companies,” said David Mast, PAG Presi-dent and CEO. “PAG companies provide MRO and Supply Chain services for General Aviation, Commercial and Military operators of Fixed and Rotary-Wing aircraft world-wide. Over the last 2 years we have made substantial investments in PAS, including the launch of the Rotorcraft Services Division (RSD), OEM/Factory training for Technicians, updated their IT infrastructure, and made facility enhancements that increase their ca-pacity and capabilities. The addition of PAS

has enabled us to expand the products and services we can provide to our existing cus-tomer base.”

Kellstrom Commercial Aerospace ac-quired AirLiance Materials from Lufthansa Technik. AirLiance’s current chief executive officer, Roscoe Musselwhite, will become president and CEO of Kellstrom Commer-cial Aerospace, and a member of Kellstrom’s Board of Directors. Following the AirLiance acquisition, the Commercial warehousing and logistics operations of Kellstrom will migrate over the next 6-12 months to Air-Liance’s state-of-the-art 161,000 ft² ware-house facility and headquarters near O’Hare Airport outside of Chicago. The combined company will also maintain a significant sales presence in South Florida. According to Kellstrom, “Mr. Musselwhite’s initial char-ter will be to integrate the two commercial

In his role, he will be responsible for securing and improving customs activities in U.S. with a focus on Airbus Americas’ aircraft final assembly line in Mobile, implementing customs processes in cooperation with U.S. Customs Authorities, providing operational oversight of Customs Brokers and third party logistics contractors, ensuring adequate internal control processes for customs compliance, and continuously evaluating business activities for duty minimization opportunities.

• Northrop Grumman appointed Christine McGlade and Andrew W. Reynolds vice presidents of manufacturing operations and site managers for the company’s aircraft integration centers of excellence in St. Augustine, Fla., and Palmdale, Calif., respec-tively.In her new role, McGlade will be responsible for managing and integrating all manufacturing and support operations at the St. Augustine site in coordination with the company’s various aircraft programs and other functional organizations. For the immediate future, she also will lead production of the E-2 Hawkeye aircraft. The site produces, modifies, repairs and overhauls military aircraft and subassemblies. Reynolds will manage and integrate all manufacturing and support operations at the Palmdale site in coordination with the manufacturing center’s multiple programs and functional organizations. The site assembles, integrates, tests and maintains some of the world’s most advanced aircraft, including the F-35, B-2 Spirit and RQ-4 Global Hawk. For the immediate future, Reynolds also will continue to serve in his current role as the produc-tion leader for Northrop Grumman Aerospace System’s portion of the F-35 program.

• Southwest Airlines promoted Randy Sloan to senior vice president as the Company’s chief information officer. Sloan joined the carrier in March of 2012 and immediately as-sumes the new role.
