SLA President’s Message by Mike Hayes
Spring is here and hopefully everyone’s yards and gardens are
looking their best. I guess this is true as this quarantine has given
us the time to work on our gardens and homes. Now, if we could
get free to go around and see the results. It does look like we are on
the path to be able to resume our outside activities, jobs, and lives.
Lake Sherwood Acres had a family or two have an encounter with
the “Rona” virus. Thankfully, we understand all recovered. LSA
was very fortunate as the known incidents were very low for our
neighborhood
The Club Board arranged for vendors and food trucks to use the Club parking lot for
delivery to provide us some alternatives during this “lock down” time. Any
distraction to the “stay at home” requirement was a welcome relief.
I also wanted to thank all the residents that paid their 2020 dues. We had a few that
came in late but with Don Frattini’s direction we have collected 100% of the 2020
dues.
The SLA Board has utilized the ZOOM video meeting software to allow us to
continue to meet and keep us on track. It was pretty easy to set up; but we had a
bump or two as we, of a previous education experience, had to learn some new
tricks.
Many of our residents are out and about practicing social distancing on walks and
bike rides. Please try to not park your vehicles on or across the sidewalks as this
blocks the walkers and the kids riding bikes. I remind you that there is a city
ordinance on such parking.
I had a resident ask about raising chickens and there was a recent newspaper article
on this. Unfortunately, I had to advise that our Subdivision Restrictions and
Covenants do not allow the keeping of chickens within the subdivision. I just wanted
to note this before anyone embarks on this adventure. My guess the desire to raise
chickens was the result of the limited grocery supplies and the thought of having
something to do. At least that is what the newspaper article implied.
We know that each of us is seeing this year filled with uncertainty as we move
through the Corona Virus impact and the restart of the economy. Hopefully, this
will come to a quick resolution and we can get back to our normal lives.
We appreciate your support.

Show Your Patriotism by Debbie Pacas …A Growing Lake Sherwood Tradition!
"Show Your Patriotism" at Lake Sherwood with Your Free American Flag!
During the months of June and July, Lake Sherwood Acres residents are encouraged to "Show Your Patriotism". You can request free of charge a 12" x 18" American flag that can be placed curbside in your yard. If a flag was received last year, but in need of replacing, no worries - you are welcome to request a brand new one!
To request your free flag, contact Debbie Pacas at 225-235-0165, or by email at [email protected]
Let's all show our true colors, and proudly display "old glory"!
Additionally, as we show our patriotism, we need to be mindful of flying flags that need to be "retired or destroyed". The SLA has located a Boy Scout troop that will receive the flags and properly dispose of them. Please bring any flags that you want to dispose of to Don Frattini at 3929 Lake Sherwood Ave-East.
Thank you Residents and Police Officers
Once again we would like to offer a note of thanks to all of our Lake Sherwood Acres residents and our police officers for everyone’s efforts to make our subdivision a safer place to live. Thanks for locking your vehicles and your property.
Traffic citations and criminal activity are down a little from this time frame last year from 112 to 95 with stop sign violations representing the vast majority. (January-March)
Please continue to LOCK your vehicles and turn on your Security Systems.
If you receive Spot Crime reports on your computer (see below for instructions) it is easy to see how much crime is going on in the areas surrounding Lake Sherwood Acres. Yet we remain almost crime free. The criminal element learns very fast where the easy targets are.
Let’s keep up the joint efforts by all to make the subdivision even safer. Thanks again for everyone’s security efforts.

Spot Crime is an internet site that shows actual crime events, based upon police reports, within a certain distance of
your location. It is a free service.

For the past 23 years, we have had 100% payment of annual dues and this year is no different. We have collected dues from 313 resident lot owners for a total of $139,346.
We also added approximately $2,500 due to the payment of late fees and interest.
This would not be possible without your support. Thank you so much for your continuing cooperation.

Greeting neighbors! As you know, residents of Lake Sherwood Acres are required to follow a series of regulations as
outlined in the Restrictions & Covenants (R&Cs). These rules ensure that the beauty of our neighborhood is
maintained throughout the years. One of the tools the Lake Sherwood Council uses to document adherence to the
R&Cs is the Homeowner’s Maintenance Form . This single-page application should be completed by homeowners
conducting any repairs or improvements to the exterior of their home and sent to the council for approval. It is
imperative that you receive an approval document from the council PRIOR to beginning any such work. To
accommodate that necessity, we ask that you please submit your maintenance form and any supporting documents a
minimum of one week prior to your anticipated project start date. This allows us ample time to review your
submission, ask for any clarification we may need, and issue the approval. You may access the document via our
website at www.lakesherwoodacres.com.
The council is also available to meet with you on-site to discuss your project in person when needed. Simply reach out
via email or phone call and we will do our best to make arrangements as soon as possible. Thanks so much for your
cooperation and your continued efforts to keep Lake Sherwood Acres the wonderful home that it is!
Council News by Samantha Montoya
The McCorkle Family
The Lake Sherwood Restrictions and Protective Covenants (Part I. Administration and Lake Sherwood Council- Section 2.21) allow for the Sherwood Lake Association Board to regulate lake usage with reasonable rules and regulations. This is to protect the residents and the lake’s health.
Since it is a private lake, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Dept. representatives have stated the subdivision can impose and enforce its own rules.
In order to halt non-resident use of the lake, to promote a safer neighborhood in regards to a crime and privacy issues and to improve the quality of the lake; the following has been adopted:
General Rules:
• Use of the lake is restricted to residents who are lot owners or to renters who live in Lake Sherwood Acres. This is allowed as long as all subdivision dues are paid up to date for the lot.
• Residents and renters are defined as family members to include: parents, children, grandchildren, and sons or daughters in law whether or not they live in Lake Sherwood Acres. Family guests are allowed as long as a family member accompanies the guest. Only boats belonging to family members and that have proper Lake Sherwood Acres boat stickers with lot numbers are permitted. The lot owner or renter assumes full responsibility for all family members and guests.
• Property owners whose trees or limbs have fallen into the lake are required to remove them as soon as possible.
• No bulkhead, dock, boat launch ramp or other structure may protrude into the lake.
• Nothing may be dumped into the lake including but not limited to grass clippings, food scraps, crawfish/shrimp shells, fish guts, dirt, concrete etc. Besides being against our Lake Rules, dumping in our waterways is a violation of City Ordinances.
• The lake may not be used as a source of water for irrigation or other purposes.
Lot owners, who wish to place objects (such as wildlife houses, plants, or other objects, etc.) within the lake, must submit plans for approval to the Chairman of the Lake Committee. The resident will, if plans are approved, be required to accept all clean-up costs, maintenance costs and liabilities associated with the approved project.
Boating Rules:
• All boats used on the lake must have 2 Lake Sherwood Acres boat stickers with the lot number, one on each side. Boats or boat stickers should not be loaned to others such as workers on your property or an unaccompanied guest. If that action is taken, the lake stickers will be removed for 1 year. Contact Jim Cazes @ 229-5971 for boat stickers.
• Boating is allowed at any time. If boating is desired in darkness, proper boat lights are required.
All boats must have a life vest for all boat occupants. Children under 13 must be wearing a life vest.
Swimming Rules:
• The Lake Sherwood Acres Board discourages swimming in the lake and it does not provide for any type of lifeguard protections. Swimmers do so at their own risk.
Jumping off lake bridges or from objects (such as trees, bulkheads, boats, etc.) into the lake is prohibited.

Fishing Rules:
All non-resident guests must have a valid Louisiana Recreational Fishing License on their possession, in
accordance with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries laws. The Resident hosting the guest(s) must be with the
guest at all times. Residents are not required to have a Louisiana Fishing License.
• Daily bass limit set at 3 between 12 to 19 inches and 1 of the 3 may be over 19 inches. All others must be
safely returned to the lake.
• Daily crappie (or sac-a-lait) limit set at 5 over 8 inches. All others must be safely returned to the lake.
• Daily catfish limit set at 10 over 12 inches in length. All others must be safely returned to the lake.
• Pan fish (or bream) will have no limit or size restriction. Do not return any bream of any size to the lake. If they
are too small to eat dispose of them in the garbage.
• Rio Grande Cichlids should not be returned to the lake regardless of size. (See attached photo)
• Catches can be checked by any subdivision
resident or security patrol member. Violations will
result in a 1 year suspension of lake use by anyone
connected with that lot’s described allowed lake user.
• Use of seine nets or any other type of net fishing is
banned.
The use of hand lines, trot lines, bottle floats, balloon
style floats, Yo Yo’s or other type of line style fishing
with single or multiple hooks is banned and deemed
unsafe due to hazards posed to residents and boats.
These fishing methods are prohibited whether
attended or not.
Updated yearly rules will be e-mailed to each home
within the subdivision, posted on the LSA website and
included in the subdivision’s welcome package.
Additionally, the rules will be mailed with the year’s Spring newsletter. Lot owners who rent out their homes are
responsible to let the renters know of the rules.
Violations and violators will be posted in the subdivision’s newsletters and on the LSA website showing violation and
any/all suspension activity
Each year, the Lake Sherwood Board will review, make any changes to, and vote on the renewal of these
regulations at the start of that board’s business. The Lake Maintenance Committee Chairman will handle this duty.
If your boat is sold or given away, remove the Lake Sherwood stickers and destroy them.
Don’t tempt this thief!
Thank you for doing your part in securing your home and vehicles.

Update on the Status of the Lake Sherwood Club
As you know, the Lake Sherwood Club Association’s Board of Directors was forced to shut the Club and its related activities during the mandated Louisiana COVID-19 quarantine period.
At this time, it is not clear as to the potential opening of the Club for the summer season. Once the quarantine is lifted, we will have to determine when and how it will be safe to use the pool. In addition, we have not been able to recruit, hire and certify the guard staff.
Also, the Club depends upon outside memberships and facility rental fees to bring in approximately $30,000 each year. The Club’s budget is based upon this expectation. Because we do not expect much or any outside membership revenue, the LSCA Board will need to revise the 2020 budget significantly.
The LSCA Board is working to develop a plan of action that will address the budget revision and develop an interim activity schedule to make improvements to our Club facility during this forced down time.
Since we were not able to complete this plan in time for the Newsletter, the LSCA Board will be meeting to finalize a revised budget and action plan to coincide with the lifting of the quarantine. When we have completed the planning, we will use the Resident Email system to communicate those plans to you.
In the meantime, we will continue to try to utilize the Club location and parking lot for such things as food deliveries as shown below.

On February 7th, Lake Sherwood Club hosted their annual wine tasting event. This was a well-attended and enjoyable event with 18 wine entries and a full house of club members and their guests. The Blue Horizon Jazz Band added to the festive Mardi Gras theme with their 7 piece ensemble. Prizes were awarded for “best” and “worst” wines.

Easter Bunny Visits LSA by Gina Wilson Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the Annual Lake Sherwood Clubhouse Easter Egg Hunt was cancelled, however,
neighbors and club members were still able to have an “egg”tra special day! The Easter bunny came to everyone this
year pickup truck style, riding up and down the streets of Lake Sherwood Acres with music blaring and the horn
honking. Yards were filled with families cheering and waving from afar while social distancing. The bunny also made a
special visit to Lake Sherwood Village to wave to all of the residents from the parking lot.
We plan to return to our Annual Easter Egg Hunt with a visit from the Easter Bunny at the Clubhouse next year.
