And if you don't believe me, perhaps you'll put your trust in Kobalt main man Willard Ahdritz who said earlier this week: "We are extremely excited to have signed superstar artist and DJ, Tiësto. Look, here's Phil Oakey saying so: "Emerging from a decade in which everyone seems to have spent their time looking backwards we are delighted to have the opportunity to march forwards once again and attempt to produce new and exciting music in a new and exciting partnership. After a break from recording of very nearly eight years we can't think of a better situation than working with Wall Of Sound in our ambition to make the best recordings of our career and to further extend the audience for, and the possibilities of, original electronic popular music". And if you don't believe Phil, just look at what Wall Of Sound boss Mark Jones has been saying: "Never before have The Human League been more relevant musically than they are today. The evolution and progression of electronic popular music is what brings us together. It's an honour and inspiration to have them signed to Wall Of Sound. They say 'never work with you heroes'... but fuck that, for starters". Firstly they have acquired the duo's existing catalogue by buying the Threesome Music publishing company. Secondly they have entered into an administration deal with the couple and their Alamar Music company regarding all their current and future works. The Bergmans have written songs for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Celine Dion, Luciano Pavarotti, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand, and wrote title songs for movies like 'Tootsie' ('It Might Be You'), 'A Star Is Born' ('I Believe In Love') and 'Shirley Valentine' ('The Girl Who Used To Be Me'). Confirming the deal, Sprit Music Group CEO Mark Fried told CMU: "Alan and Marilyn Bergman's legacy of work represents some of the most beloved and enduring songs of the last five decades. Their gift for crafting the perfect lyric, working alongside such famed composers as Michel Legrand, Marvin Hamlisch, Johnny Mandel and Dave Grusin, has given the world a collection of classy, evocative, life-affirming songs which continue to charm generations of fans and serve as a master class in song craft. We are thrilled to be working closely with Alan and Marilyn in promoting their standards and the new classics they are creating". The Bergmans add themselves added: "We are delighted to join this forward-thinking and energetic company. Songs need a loving and nurturing home and we feel Spirit is such a place". Pizzorno had previously had a publishing deal with EMI. Sony/ATV UK MD Rak Sanghvi says this: "I am thrilled to have concluded this deal and it is particularly pleasing that Serge and the band have chosen to come to Sony/ATV at such a vital juncture in their career; they are on the brink of worldwide fame and have chosen the Sony/ATV team as partners in achieving even greater creative and commercial success going forward". Sergio added: "I'm really looking forward to the next couple of years with the band; we have a fantastic momentum going now and Sony/ATV Music Publishing feels like the right team for where we're going". The group - Katy Klaw, Rosa Rex and Olly Olly Olly - will release their debut album, 'Fossils And Other Phantoms', through the label in April. You can get a free download of one the songs from the album, 'Hatstand Blues', in exchange for your email address at www.peggywho.com Tags: peggy sue , wichita Permalink | Comments (0) | Post RSS Roadrunner sign Coheed & Cambria Roadrunner Records have announced that they have signed a new deal with fantasy rockers Coheed & Cambria for all territories outside North America, where they will continue to release through Sony/Columbia. The first release under the deal will be the band's fifth album, 'Year Of The Black Rainbow', in April, which will act as a prequel to the 'Amory Wars' story told on the band's previous four albums. In addition to a standard CD release, the album will also be available as a part of a deluxe package containing a 300 page novelisation of the story it tells, written by frontman Claudio Sanchez and sci-fi author Peter David. Speaking about the Roadrunner deal, the band said in a statement: "We are very excited! We think Roadrunner will make our music more widely available as well as open up the potential for us to come to countries we rarely or never have been to before". Although he did not discuss the reasons for the split - rumoured to be poor album sales and the fact that he's looking and acting more like a character from 'Little Britain' by the day - he said he is relishing having greater creative control over his work. Manson told Metal Hammer: "We've just been released from our record contract with Interscope, so I think [I will regain] a lot of the creative control [over things] on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices - the music videos, things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn't have allowed me to make that video. We started writing new songs on the road, [that are] a bit like [David Bowie's 1973 album] 'Aladdin Sane', [so] I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [thought]". When the magazine suggested that Manson doesn't seem like the type of guy who would accept being told what to do by a record label, he continued: "You'd be surprised how much restraint my creativity had which [meant I often] ended up ... not [wanting] to make music. ... At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so now I think people can expect a whole lot more [from me]". Unlike Simon Cowell, Walsh doesn't have any automatic rights to sign up finalists on the telly talent show. While Cowell's SyCo record company has first refusal on record deals, when it comes to post-show management, competitors are obligated to work with Modest Management. However, Walsh, who championed Jedward during their time on 'X-Factor', has persuaded Modest to let him guide the careers of the twins. He'll co-manage them with Ashley Tabor, who presumably has lots of time to spare time when he's not running the UK's biggest radio firm Global. Place you bets, how long till Jedward get the evening show on Capital FM? Confirming he would be managing the 'X-Factor' muppets (with apologies to any real Muppets reading the CMU Daily), Walsh told reporters: "Despite all the doubters, John & Edward proved themselves on 'X-Factor' and I've always been convinced that they have a great career ahead of them. I'm delighted that I'll be able to continue to work with the pair. We're looking into music as well as TV deals but at this stage it is too early to give any exact details". Tags: marilyn manson, interscope Permalink | Comments (0) | Post RSS Alphabeat sign to UMP Universal Music Publishing have announced that they have signed up Danish popsters Alphabeat for a long term, global publishing deal that will cover the band's entire back catalogue, as well as new material. Announcing the deal, UMP's Senior A&R Manager Darryl Watts and Head Of A&R Caroline Elleray, who were responsible for the signing, jointly said: "Alphabeat are essentially a collection of very high calibre international hit songwriters. The commercial sound of their studio albums has earned them extensive airplay and healthy worldwide sales and has proved them capable of writing strong and exciting pop music. We firmly believe, however, that their best is yet to come. Over the past couple of months there has been growing demand from the A&R community to have these talented writers collaborate with some very successful pop acts. We are thrilled to be working with them". Alphabeat's manager, Machine Management founder and CEO Iain Watt, added: "After a lengthy courting process we are thrilled to have signed to Universal Music Publishing. Our vision to cement the band's position as a successful international pop act and further develop them as writers for other artists was fully endorsed by Universal whose team we will work with closely to achieve this". After leaving their former label, EMI, in December last year, Alphabeat signed a new record deal with Polydor in March. Having spent much of the year writing and recording their second album, 'The Spell', which is due for release in January, the band will tour as support act to Lady Gaga in February and March next year. The rapper claims that the label failed to properly distribute the album, and failed to meet consumer demand after the Mercury win. Despite winning the high profile music prize, the album peaked at number 65 in the UK charts, and is estimated to have sold just 10,000 copies in total, compared to the 300,000 copies shifted of the previous year's winner, Elbow's 'The Seldom Seen Kid'. The discrepancy, Debelle reckons, is partly because Big Dada didn't have enough physical copies of the album on the High Street at the crucial moment. Comparing Debelle with Elbow doesn't really work, of course. 'The Seldom Seen Kid' was a widely acclaimed album, while Debelle's debut has had a mixed response despite the Mercury win. Elbow were also an established band making music that appeals to a large demographic. Their album also included a killer single that became the anthem of that summer. Basically, for Elbow, the Mercury was the icing on the cake, whereas for Debelle it was the sponge and jam as well. Still, the fact Elbow were signed to a major record company with large pockets and a big distribution network, and the fact Debelle was not, is not totally irrelevant. Speaking to BBC 6music, Debelle said: "The Mercury Prize was on a Tuesday, and the Friday there were no more physical albums in the shops. So on the Mercury weekend, which would have been my biggest selling weekend, people couldn't get it". She continued: "I wasn't disappointed that it didn't sell well, I was disappointed in the people I was working with. I wasn't on a big label and the machine wasn't there. So even though the album won the Mercury it was still only able to do what the label was capable of doing, which just means that I'm more prepared for next time". She added that she is already speaking to a number of labels about releasing her second album, saying of her experience so far: "One thing I've learnt is that having bargaining power is important. It's important to walk into a record label and say 'This is what I have, and these are the kind of terms I want'". Of course what Debelle has experienced is the main downside of working with a smaller indie label. They can't afford to press up thousands of extra copies of an album on the off chance it wins the Mercury Prize, especially when the album is a real outsider to win in the run up to the presentation of the award. Actually, in the current climate there's a chance not even the biggest major would have been able to take that risk, but it's true they could have staged an impromptu advertising campaign the week of the win directing people to sellers of the digital release, and paid HMV to put what physical product was available by the door. But it's swings and roundabouts really, isn't it? For every indie-signed band with tales of the frustration of knowing your brilliant album isn't reaching record shops, or getting advertised or plugged to Radios 1 and 2, simply because your label doesn't have any cash, there are bands with horror stories of being signed to a major who spend two hundred thousand pounds on studio time, production and pressing fifty thousand CDs, only to fire your A&R contact and then almost forget they're releasing your record. That is to say, both majors and indies come with pros and cons. The big pro of Big Dada for Speech Debelle prior to her Mercury win, presumably, was that none of the majors would probably have even considered signing her. Now she has a Mercury Prize in her hat, I suppose you can't blame her for trying to find a record label with bigger pockets. Tags: speech debelle , big dada Permalink | Comments (0) | Post RSS Robbie considering city funding for future albums Robbie Williams' management have admitted they are talking to financial institutions about providing the funding for the next stage of the pop star's career, a deal which could give the City types a cut of future Robbie record sales, touring revenues and sponsorship income. Williams is, of course, at the end of his four album recording deal with EMI. That deal was big news when signed in 2002, partly because of its size - the record company reportedly committed to investing £80 million in the Robster - but also because it was one of the first high profile 360 degree deals, giving EMI a cut of the singer's live and sponsorship revenues. At the time the boss of management company ie:music, Tim Clark, told CMU that he, Williams and business partner David Enthoven had also considered going it alone back then, and not doing a deal with any record company. The attraction of staying with EMI though, Clark said, was not so much the large cash investment. Obviously that sweetened things, but Clark was confident even then that there were other sources of investment. The value of doing business with EMI, he said, was the global distribution and marketing infrastructure that comes with a major label deal. While EMI were never especially involved in Williams' touring and sponsorship activity, despite getting a nominal cut of those revenues, they still play an important role in the global release of his records. But he added that as the digital music market grew it became more viable for small companies like ie:music to handle global record releases. Plus, of course, major record companies - and especially EMI - are now much more used to providing distribution and marketing support on a service provider basis, rather than through a traditional record deal. Anyway, Clark has told reporters that he and the ie team are now looking at all options for the next stage of Robbie's career, which includes talking to a number of major record companies, as well as alternative investors, including City types. It's thought Team Robbie are looking for about £50 million this time, again offering a cut of future album, touring and sponsorship revenues to investors. Clark: "Obviously we are talking to several record companies about a new deal for Robbie, but we are also looking at talking broadly to all potential investors, including financial institutions". Well, not quite since that exact point, but when we actually listened to it, we really liked it. This year they've released two more singles, and every time one came out we crossed our fingers that the world at large would recognise their talent. Well, last week the band signed to Universal's Geffen division, which hopefully means that will finally happen when they release their debut album next year. Faber Music Media's Richard Paine said this: "We are delighted to have signed an agreement with Led Bib, representing them for synchronisation licensing and commissioned work for film and TV. They join our growing roster, which includes such diverse composers as Jonny Greenwood, Sir Paul McCartney, in respect of his classical works, the Oscar-winning film composer Stephen Warbeck and the sitarist Nishat Kahn. Faber Music is known for representing music that is of high quality and innovative - and both these descriptions strongly apply to Led Bib". Led Bib's Mark Holub told CMU: "We are all really excited about the Faber signing, everything has accelerated for us since the announcement and it's a brilliant time. This new prospect of working with film and TV is a great new development and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Faber". Confirming he was re-signing with EMI, Rattle told CMU: "In a time where recording contracts are rare enough to be an endangered species, I feel both lucky and privileged to be working further with EMI Classics, my loyal and brave partners of more than 30 years. The orchestra and I are delighted to be able to carry on bringing our music making to a hopefully ever wider audience, and are very touched by the faith of EMI in our partnership". EMI Classics Global President Eric Dingman added: "I am delighted about the ongoing partnership with Sir Simon which will continue to produce ground-breaking recordings and projects, adding to the great wealth, depth and breadth of repertoire that Sir Simon is building with EMI Classics". Superstar DJ Tiësto (you still get superstar DJs, right?) has signed a

global administration deal with independent music publisher Kobalt,

covering the activities of his music production business After Midnight

Productions, which has its own Music Freedom Publishing offshoot.

And if you don't believe me, perhaps you'll put your trust in Kobalt

main man Willard Ahdritz who said earlier this week: "We are

extremely excited to have signed superstar artist and DJ, Tiësto.

Besides synch and transparent, online administration services, our senior vice president of creative Benjamin

Groff will work along with our A&R team in developing collaborative opportunities for Tiësto".

Wall Of Sound have signed The Human League

Erm, right, yeah, well, Wall Of Sound have signed The Human League.

Look, here's Phil Oakey saying so: "Emerging from a decade in which

everyone seems to have spent their time looking backwards we are

delighted to have the opportunity to march forwards once again and

attempt to produce new and exciting music in a new and exciting

partnership. After a break from recording of very nearly eight years we

can't think of a better situation than working with Wall Of Sound in our

ambition to make the best recordings of our career and to further extend the audience for, and the possibilities

of, original electronic popular music".

And if you don't believe Phil, just look at what Wall Of Sound boss Mark Jones has been saying: "Never before

have The Human League been more relevant musically than they are today. The evolution and progression of

electronic popular music is what brings us together. It's an honour and inspiration to have them signed to Wall

Of Sound. They say 'never work with you heroes'... but fuck that, for starters".

Spirit sign The Bergmans

Indie music publisher Spirit has entered into a two-strand deal with

Oscar-winning songwriting couple Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Firstly

they have acquired the duo's existing catalogue by buying the

Threesome Music publishing company. Secondly they have entered into

an administration deal with the couple and their Alamar Music company

regarding all their current and future works.

The Bergmans have written songs for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ray

Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Celine Dion, Luciano Pavarotti, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand, and wrote title

songs for movies like 'Tootsie' ('It Might Be You'), 'A Star Is Born' ('I Believe In Love') and 'Shirley Valentine'

('The Girl Who Used To Be Me').

Confirming the deal, Sprit Music Group CEO Mark Fried told CMU: "Alan and Marilyn Bergman's legacy of work

represents some of the most beloved and enduring songs of the last five decades. Their gift for crafting the

perfect lyric, working alongside such famed composers as Michel Legrand, Marvin Hamlisch, Johnny Mandel and

Dave Grusin, has given the world a collection of classy, evocative, life-affirming songs which continue to charm

generations of fans and serve as a master class in song craft. We are thrilled to be working closely with Alan

and Marilyn in promoting their standards and the new classics they are creating".

The Bergmans add themselves added: "We are delighted to join this forward-thinking and energetic company.

Songs need a loving and nurturing home and we feel Spirit is such a place".

Roadrunner sign Coheed & Cambria

Roadrunner Records have announced that they have signed a new deal

with fantasy rockers Coheed & Cambria for all territories outside North

America, where they will continue to release through Sony/Columbia.

The first release under the deal will be the band's fifth album, 'Year Of

The Black Rainbow', in April, which will act as a prequel to the 'Amory

Wars' story told on the band's previous four albums.

In addition to a standard CD release, the album will also be available as

a part of a deluxe package containing a 300 page novelisation of the story it tells, written by frontman Claudio

Sanchez and sci-fi author Peter David.

Speaking about the Roadrunner deal, the band said in a statement: "We are very excited! We think Roadrunner

will make our music more widely available as well as open up the potential for us to come to countries we

rarely or never have been to before".

Manson discusses Interscope split

Marilyn Manson has confirmed that he has been "released" from his

record deal with Universal's Interscope. Although he did not discuss the

reasons for the split - rumoured to be poor album sales and the fact

that he's looking and acting more like a character from 'Little Britain' by

the day - he said he is relishing having greater creative control over his

work.

Manson told Metal Hammer: "We've just been released from our record

contract with Interscope, so I think [I will regain] a lot of the creative control [over things] on which my hands

were tied on a lot of choices - the music videos, things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they

clearly wouldn't have allowed me to make that video. We started writing new songs on the road, [that are] a bit

like [David Bowie's 1973 album] 'Aladdin Sane', [so] I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than

we [thought]".

When the magazine suggested that Manson doesn't seem like the type of guy who would accept being told what

to do by a record label, he continued: "You'd be surprised how much restraint my creativity had which [meant I

often] ended up ... not [wanting] to make music. ... At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so

now I think people can expect a whole lot more [from me]".

Walsh to manage Jedward

Louis Walsh has announced he has signed up 'X-Factor' comedy turn

John & Edward and that he is now in talks regarding a recording

contract and TV work.

Unlike Simon Cowell, Walsh doesn't have any automatic rights to sign

up finalists on the telly talent show. While Cowell's SyCo record

company has first refusal on record deals, when it comes to post-show

management, competitors are obligated to work with Modest

Management.

However, Walsh, who championed Jedward during their time on 'X-Factor', has persuaded Modest to let him

guide the careers of the twins. He'll co-manage them with Ashley Tabor, who presumably has lots of time to

spare time when he's not running the UK's biggest radio firm Global. Place you bets, how long till Jedward get

the evening show on Capital FM?

Confirming he would be managing the 'X-Factor' muppets (with apologies to any real Muppets reading the CMU

Daily), Walsh told reporters: "Despite all the doubters, John & Edward proved themselves on 'X-Factor' and I've

always been convinced that they have a great career ahead of them. I'm delighted that I'll be able to continue

to work with the pair. We're looking into music as well as TV deals but at this stage it is too early to give any

exact details".

Alphabeat sign to UMP

Universal Music Publishing have announced that they have signed up

Danish popsters Alphabeat for a long term, global publishing deal that

will cover the band's entire back catalogue, as well as new material.

Announcing the deal, UMP's Senior A&R Manager Darryl Watts and Head

Of A&R Caroline Elleray, who were responsible for the signing, jointly

said: "Alphabeat are essentially a collection of very high calibre

international hit songwriters. The commercial sound of their studio

albums has earned them extensive airplay and healthy worldwide sales and has proved them capable of writing

strong and exciting pop music. We firmly believe, however, that their best is yet to come. Over the past couple

of months there has been growing demand from the A&R community to have these talented writers collaborate

with some very successful pop acts. We are thrilled to be working with them".

Alphabeat's manager, Machine Management founder and CEO Iain Watt, added: "After a lengthy courting

process we are thrilled to have signed to Universal Music Publishing. Our vision to cement the band's position as

a successful international pop act and further develop them as writers for other artists was fully endorsed by

Universal whose team we will work with closely to achieve this".

After leaving their former label, EMI, in December last year, Alphabeat signed a new record deal with Polydor in

March. Having spent much of the year writing and recording their second album, 'The Spell', which is due for

release in January, the band will tour as support act to Lady Gaga in February and March next year.

Speech Debelle quits Big Dada

Speech Debelle has announced that she is quitting her label, Ninja

Tune subsidiary Big Dada, apparently because of the poor sales of her

Mercury Prize-winning album 'Speech Therapy'. The rapper claims that

the label failed to properly distribute the album, and failed to meet

consumer demand after the Mercury win.

Despite winning the high profile music prize, the album peaked at

number 65 in the UK charts, and is estimated to have sold just 10,000

copies in total, compared to the 300,000 copies shifted of the previous year's winner, Elbow's 'The Seldom Seen

Kid'. The discrepancy, Debelle reckons, is partly because Big Dada didn't have enough physical copies of the

album on the High Street at the crucial moment.

Comparing Debelle with Elbow doesn't really work, of course. 'The Seldom Seen Kid' was a widely acclaimed

album, while Debelle's debut has had a mixed response despite the Mercury win. Elbow were also an established

band making music that appeals to a large demographic. Their album also included a killer single that became

the anthem of that summer. Basically, for Elbow, the Mercury was the icing on the cake, whereas for Debelle it

was the sponge and jam as well. Still, the fact Elbow were signed to a major record company with large pockets

and a big distribution network, and the fact Debelle was not, is not totally irrelevant.

Speaking to BBC 6music, Debelle said: "The Mercury Prize was on a Tuesday, and the Friday there were no

more physical albums in the shops. So on the Mercury weekend, which would have been my biggest selling

weekend, people couldn't get it".

She continued: "I wasn't disappointed that it didn't sell well, I was disappointed in the people I was working

with. I wasn't on a big label and the machine wasn't there. So even though the album won the Mercury it was

still only able to do what the label was capable of doing, which just means that I'm more prepared for next

time".

She added that she is already speaking to a number of labels about releasing her second album, saying of her

experience so far: "One thing I've learnt is that having bargaining power is important. It's important to walk

into a record label and say 'This is what I have, and these are the kind of terms I want'".

Of course what Debelle has experienced is the main downside of working with a smaller indie label. They can't

afford to press up thousands of extra copies of an album on the off chance it wins the Mercury Prize, especially

when the album is a real outsider to win in the run up to the presentation of the award. Actually, in the current

climate there's a chance not even the biggest major would have been able to take that risk, but it's true they

could have staged an impromptu advertising campaign the week of the win directing people to sellers of the

digital release, and paid HMV to put what physical product was available by the door.

But it's swings and roundabouts really, isn't it? For every indie-signed band with tales of the frustration of

knowing your brilliant album isn't reaching record shops, or getting advertised or plugged to Radios 1 and 2,

simply because your label doesn't have any cash, there are bands with horror stories of being signed to a major

who spend two hundred thousand pounds on studio time, production and pressing fifty thousand CDs, only to

fire your A&R contact and then almost forget they're releasing your record. That is to say, both majors and

indies come with pros and cons.

The big pro of Big Dada for Speech Debelle prior to her Mercury win, presumably, was that none of the majors

would probably have even considered signing her. Now she has a Mercury Prize in her hat, I suppose you can't

blame her for trying to find a record label with bigger pockets.

Robbie considering city funding for future albums

Robbie Williams' management have admitted they are talking to

financial institutions about providing the funding for the next stage of

the pop star's career, a deal which could give the City types a cut of

future Robbie record sales, touring revenues and sponsorship income.

Williams is, of course, at the end of his four album recording deal with

EMI. That deal was big news when signed in 2002, partly because of its

size - the record company reportedly committed to investing £80 million

in the Robster - but also because it was one of the first high profile 360 degree deals, giving EMI a cut of the

singer's live and sponsorship revenues.

At the time the boss of management company ie:music, Tim Clark, told CMU that he, Williams and business

partner David Enthoven had also considered going it alone back then, and not doing a deal with any record

company. The attraction of staying with EMI though, Clark said, was not so much the large cash investment.

Obviously that sweetened things, but Clark was confident even then that there were other sources of

investment.

The value of doing business with EMI, he said, was the global distribution and marketing infrastructure that

comes with a major label deal. While EMI were never especially involved in Williams' touring and sponsorship

activity, despite getting a nominal cut of those revenues, they still play an important role in the global release

of his records. But he added that as the digital music market grew it became more viable for small companies

like ie:music to handle global record releases. Plus, of course, major record companies - and especially EMI -

are now much more used to providing distribution and marketing support on a service provider basis, rather

than through a traditional record deal.

Anyway, Clark has told reporters that he and the ie team are now looking at all options for the next stage of

Robbie's career, which includes talking to a number of major record companies, as well as alternative investors,

including City types. It's thought Team Robbie are looking for about £50 million this time, again offering a cut

of future album, touring and sponsorship revenues to investors.

Clark: "Obviously we are talking to several record companies about a new deal for Robbie, but we are also

looking at talking broadly to all potential investors, including financial institutions".

Everything Everything sign to Geffen

We've been fans of Everything Everything since someone thrust their

debut single, 'Suffragette Suffragette', into our hands last year

sometime. Well, not quite since that exact point, but when we actually

listened to it, we really liked it. This year they've released two more

singles, and every time one came out we crossed our fingers that the

world at large would recognise their talent.

Well, last week the band signed to Universal's Geffen division, which

hopefully means that will finally happen when they release their debut album next year.

Led Bib do sync deal with Faber

Mercury-nominated Led Bib have entered into a deal with Faber Music

who will now represent the British jazz purveyors in the sync domain.

Faber Music Media's Richard Paine said this: "We are delighted to have

signed an agreement with Led Bib, representing them for

synchronisation licensing and commissioned work for film and TV. They

join our growing roster, which includes such diverse composers as

Jonny Greenwood, Sir Paul McCartney, in respect of his classical works,

the Oscar-winning film composer Stephen Warbeck and the sitarist Nishat Kahn. Faber Music is known for

representing music that is of high quality and innovative - and both these descriptions strongly apply to Led

Bib".

Led Bib's Mark Holub told CMU: "We are all really excited about the Faber signing, everything has accelerated

for us since the announcement and it's a brilliant time. This new prospect of working with film and TV is a great

new development and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Faber".

BMG goes all Wiggly

Aussie kids-targeted musical group The Wiggles have signed an

international administration deal with BMG Rights Management.

Although globally focused, the deal with the German music rights

deal is between BMG and The Wiggles' own company, Wiggly Tunes,

which holds the rights in the group's various songs.

Eminent conductor re-signs to EMI

EMI Classics has signed a new contract with Simon Rattle, the principal

conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic who has worked with the major

label's classical division for three decades, and has been involved in no

less than 250 recordings for the record company.

Confirming he was re-signing with EMI, Rattle told CMU: "In a time

where recording contracts are rare enough to be an endangered

species, I feel both lucky and privileged to be working further with EMI

Classics, my loyal and brave partners of more than 30 years. The orchestra and I are delighted to be able to

carry on bringing our music making to a hopefully ever wider audience, and are very touched by the faith of

EMI in our partnership".

EMI Classics Global President Eric Dingman added: "I am delighted about the ongoing partnership with Sir

Simon which will continue to produce ground-breaking recordings and projects, adding to the great wealth,

depth and breadth of repertoire that Sir Simon is building with EMI Classics".
