International affairs and how Model
United Nations instills this love and knowledge in
individuals at a young age
Engaging with individuals from
diverse cultures and backgrounds
Giving back to my local and college
communities
Challenging myself and others in the great outdoors and through
action / adventure sports
What else should you know about me? I would like you to know about my passions – these make me who I am
Model United Nations (MUN) instilled in me a passion for international
affairs and I have spread this passion to others
My plans at Sloan and in Boston:
• Join leadership team of Net Impact and SEID
• Engage with classmates informally in debate about international affairs
• Set up MUN clubs at local underprivileged high schools
My 8 years in MUN instilled in me a passion for international affairs and helped me:
• Learn to consider issues from someone else’s point of view and care about the world
• Combat my shyness: from being too afraid to talk to a stranger to winning more best
delegate awards than any student at my high school in more than 30 years
• Build my leadership skills by managing conferences, fundraisers, budgets, socials and
training, and starting MUN clubs at local underprivileged high schools
I have become a more open-minded person and adaptable and effective
leader through engaging with diverse cultures and backgrounds
I have traveled to 34 countries across 4 continents, through which I have learned:
• To always be open to learning about what you don’t know
• How to work cross-culturally and be more adaptable
• How to combine different interests into a cohesive solution through taking over 100
people around the world so that they too might benefit from cultural diversity
I have also worked across different backgrounds – can line employees and ex-military safety
experts to name a few – and learned how to motivate and inspire these individuals
My plans at Sloan and in Boston:
• Engage classmates in cultural experiences during international part of action learning labs
• Grow scope and membership of the Travel and Hospitality Club
• Continue to learn about world culture through involvement in regional and cultural clubs
I was active in the community and on campus while at Berkeley and I
am involved in my community and with my alma mater in Miami I was very involved on campus and in the community in college:
• Managed more than 50 people as Managing Editor of the Berkeley Fiction Review and
organized industry events for the Undergraduate Marketing Association
• Volunteered for law center providing free legal services to low-income clients
• Mentored underprivileged youth in London during study abroad
I continue to be active in Miami:
• Expanded and teach at ESL program at Granada Presbyterian Church
• Manage Cal Alumni Leadership Scholarship interviews
• Plan socials for Cal Alumni Association and represent Cal at prospective student events
My plan at Sloan and in Boston: Teach ESL to the local community alongside classmates
I love challenging myself and others in the great outdoors and through
action / adventure sports I challenge myself and others to surprise ourselves at what we can achieve:
• Strenuous hiking, biking, kayaking and obstacle course racing increases confidence by
showing you that what you define as your “limit” is all in your head
• Facing your fears through skydiving, rappelling and white water rafting makes you
more willing to take intelligent risk and heightens your trust in yourself
My plan at Sloan: Introduce classmates to the great outdoors
and action / adventure sports locally and on trips
