PANEL NO. 8 RIPPED ACROSS THE ENTIREWIDTH OF THE PANEL (ABOUT 45 FEET) AS THE CRANES WERE BEING RESITUATEDFOR THE REMAINDER OF THE PULL. THIS RIP WAS CAUSED BY A COMBINATION OFFACTORS. AS THE CRANES WERE BEING RE POSITIONED. THE CABLE WAS KEPTTAUNT INSTEAD OF LOOSE ON ONE OF TTWO CRANES. THIS CAUSED THE ENTIREWEIGHT OF TWO WET PANELS TO BE BORN BY THE ONE CRANE. THE PIPE AT THELEAD OF THE PANEL BEGAN TO BEND. THE SHEAR STRESS CAUSED THE PANEL TORIP ABOUT 2 FEET AT THE EDGE. THE CRANE OPERATOR FELT THE TENSIONPULLING ON THE CRANE AND RAN BACK TO THE CAB BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT IN TIME.OSC IMMEDIATELY CALLED FOR SLACK IN THE LINE BUT IT WAS TOO LATE AS THEPANEL RIPPED THE REST OF THE WAY.
THE PANEL WILL BE REWELDED TOGETHER OVER THE WEEKEND. • THE CRANEOPERATORS WILL RETURN ON MONDAY TO FINISH THE LAST PULL. IT ISANTICIPATED THAT THE MINI-ERCS CREW WILL BE CUT IN HALF OVER THEWEEKEND.
