• The National Empowerment Partnership (NEP) is a programme from the Department for Communities and Local Government( CLG) committed to supporting and improving empowerment activities across England.
• It gathers evidence of effective community empowerment activities from across the country and promotes the positive benefits of involving communities in the decisions that affect them.
The Partnership:
• Currently there are 98 members
• Made up of people with expertise or interest in empowerment activities.
• Across statutory, voluntary and community sectors.
Partnership Purpose
– Acting as the hub for collecting and disseminating good practice on empowerment in the region
– Supporting Local Authorities across the region to improve on NI4,
- the % of people who feel they can influence services in their locality.
– To work with the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (RIEP) to support the delivery of empowerment activities.
– Influencing the development of policy and delivery on empowerment.
What have we done so far?
• Funded a series of projects aimed at testing a variety of models to help people and communities feel empowered.
• Funded several research projects looking into empowerment within the region
• Shared the learning through the SEREP website – www.serep.org.uk and through partnership meetings
So what’s next?
• Capture what Partners are delivering against the Framework and share it.
• Link to the work of the RIEP using the research and key areas identified
• Expand the partnership to include those delivering the Targeted Support Fund and Connecting Communities agendas
• 24th March partnership conference – “Working together to make life better”
• Launch the 2010-11 Action Plan
