Hello,We are sharing with you the thrill of meeting at the 29th Zuchex International Housewares Fair. As the most effective tool to increase the commercial potential of companies, the Zuchex Fair will be held at Tuyap between the dates of 13th-16th September with the participation of 550

exhibitors in an area of 120,000 m².

Let us begin with a brief news tour… “Ambiente 2018” international kitchen equipments, home decoration, glassware, accessories and souvenirs fair held in Frankfurt, Germany by Messe Frankfurt witnessed Turkish Companies’ shows. 73 Turkish firms operating in metal

kitchen equipments, plastic and metal house equipments, electrical small appliances and other souvenirs sectors demonstrated their products at 3 different halls as part of

national participation. 150 firms in total have participated to this fair where 77 of them have participated individually.

The national participation organization of our country participated to “HONG KONG HOUSEWARE FAIR 2018” held in Hong Kong between April 20th and 23rd 2018 with the

organization of our Association for fourteenth time this year.

Our country’s national participation organization participated to International Home & Housewares Show 2018 fair with the organization of our Association for fourteenth time this year. International Home & Housewares Show 2018 held in Chicago, USA between

March 10thand 13th 2018 is known as one of the most important sectoral fairs in houseware, kitchenware and cookware fields. Our Association participated to this fair in 2018 with 10

firms occupying 232,5 m² area in total at North and South halls of the fairground.

Let us briefly mention the titles we have included in our magazine, which we hope you will read with pleasure. In our brand story page, we were guest of Taç Mutfak. Taç Mutfak

manufacturing kitchenware and tableware in line with consumer expectations releases 70% of its production to local market while exporting 30% of it.

Arzu Metal and Ertanel were other firms opened their doors for us.

In our styling pages, we aimed to present you with the 2018 designs of the Turkish kitchenware sector. We are confident that the brand new designs of Turkish firms will interest

you as well.

In our nostalgia page, we have taken a look at Külek. Külek (wooden pot/ bucket) is a container we see rarely today. These containers crafted by wooden pottery craftsmen were

used to carry or store yoghurt, milk, grape molasses, butter, ayran, water or etc. liquids. In old kitchens, these containers were even used to keep chickpea, bulgur, lentil, beans etc. grains

without becoming bug-infested and mouldy.

In this issue, we feature four designers who have made their mark in the kitchen sector with successful designs: Bar Bumin, Ça atay Akça, Cansu Tuzcu and At l K z lbay r.

We have heard the story of Güne Akman, a young female chef in the kitchen advises to young people especially to women who want to be a chef like her to keep going and do their

job with love without losing their heart before challenges to come.

established in Kahramanmaraş in

1991 and commenced its operations in

stainless steel kitchenware sector. Our

firm continues apace its manufacturing

operations within 13 thousand meter-

square area. Arzu Metal San. ve Tic.,

one of the pioneering firms in the sector

with its modern and innovative designs,

incorporated with Arzu Çelik Metal

San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti. in 2002 and made

a huge breakthrough for its growth.

Our firm increases its production each

passing day with the help of qualified

and experienced personnel. It makes

contracted manufacturing for many firms

Do you export? And which countries do

you have in your portfolio? Can you give

us some information about your export

figures?

Of course we do export. We export

our products to Middle Eastern, Near

Eastern, North African countries as well

as to Europe and America.

How are the feedbacks you got from fairs

you attended?

We always got positive

feedbacks after fairs. Being a

well-known firm in the sector is

the essential factor in this.

Can you tell us about your

product range?

Our production of steel tea

pot, steel cooking pot, steel coffee pot,

cooktop tea urn is still continuing. In

addition, we have new products such as

electrical coffee pot, electrical kettle

and tea machine.

Do you have foreign agencies?

There are firms we agreed in

specific countries to act as our agency.

However they sell different products, not

just ours. But, as a corporate principle we

provide our products to only one firm in

each country, yet this situation may vary

from country to country.

What are your plans for the upcoming

period?

We now give weight to electrical

coffee pot and electrical tea machine.

And for this purpose our investments

are continuing. We continue to make

investments every passing day in order to

operate with a fully-automated system.

Can you tell us your investments in 2018?

We now focus mainly on automation

within 2018 period, by making additional

contributions to machinery at our

facilities. We have invested in robotic

systems and fully automatic machinery.

For which sectors do you do designs?

Which field do you specifically prefer?

As I received my degree very recently,

I’m not working right now. There is no

such fixed idea in my mind as I especially

“prefer this sector”. On the contrary I

like my school projects, and works I’ve

done outside the school of being for

different sectors. I believe this keeps my

imagination more flexible. Nevertheless,

I take more pleasure in making designs of

furniture, packaging, home appliances etc.

For Kitchenware, we have interviewed

with young designer Cansu Tuzcu who

thinks that in Turkey, awareness levels are

higher in every aspect including kitchens

compared to the past.

Can you introduce yourself briefly, how

did you involve in the world of design?

I was born in Istanbul in 1994. I

graduated from University of Bahçeşehir,

Department of Industrial Design in 2017.

I’ve always had those feelings of curiosity

and desire to create something since I

was a kid, which are the core of design

actually and turning these feelings into

professional has been very satisfying. I

have been making drawings on the walls

of our house but also designing my own

toys when I was just a kid and this I think

is the proof that I was born for this job. I

don’t believe that learning ends at some

point. I don’t do with less, I

always try to develop

myself more and

more.

Can you give us some information about

your current studies?

Now I join design contests, IMMIB’s

in particular. I’m trying to develop my

Italian as my second language. I draw

digital illustrations to develop my skills in

graphics in which I’m highly interested.

At which point do you think

Turkey is in industrial design,

especially in kitchenware

sector?

I can say that it is at a

developing and improving

stage. In kitchen sector, many remarkable

works are done in both electronics and

equipments sectors. I believe that in

Turkey, awareness is higher in every

aspect including kitchens compared to the

past. I believe that firms reached a level of

understanding that competition requires

individuality in not only production and

quality but also in design and they value

this now.

designer Atıl Kızılbayır who says

Can you introduce yourself to us briefly,

how did you involve in the world of

design?

I involved in this kitchen and home

appliances sector at the time and after

Arzum approved and asked my toaster

design for which I won first prize in a

contest I participated when I was a student.

Namely, my product design

adventures which began with this

sector when I was a senior student at

Mimar Sinan University, Department

of Industrial Design, is now continuing

with design services and consultancy

assistance I offer to large manufacturer

firms and brands in Turkey under the

roof of my own company ATILİDE

Design & Consultancy.

Which field do you prefer specifically?

My journey began with Arzum Fırrın

toaster which was my design and now

it continues mostly in tableware sector.

textile products, I can say.


your current projects?

As ATILİDE Design & Consultancy,

we are now offering Product Design,

Patent Productization, Packaging

Design, Brand Design, etc. services to

manufacturers and brands in tableware

sector. In addition, we provide assistance

to certain retail firms in Cyprus and

Turkey on the issues they need support

regarding brand, product, supply chain

consultancy and marketing design,

etc. Apart from these, I also share my

experiences through classes I give to

my students studying in Department of

Industrial Design, working as a part time

lecturer in Aydın University, Department

of Product Design.

At which point do you think Turkey

is in industrial design, especially in

kitchenware sector?

Firms which are brave, visionary and

willing to grow are necessarily adding

product design into their mid and long

term plans because they know that

differentiating in the sector is crucial

to sell products at higher profitability

levels. In abroad, there is a need for

correct and distinct product designs for

demandable, different, new products

and brands. We see that substantial

successes are achieved if innovative

projects are developed through product

design. It is seen that this can be done by

firms working with product designers.

My kind recommendation to firms,

please meet and contact with a product

designer, call him/her without thinking.

Even if they do not work together, they

would absolutely gain something from

their communications. They would not

lose anything for sure. Imitations lead

sector to weaken in long term even

though they save the day for companies.

Also we know that every customer wants

to see new things. End-consumers at

stores, big buyers at fairs, they all seek

for new products and compete with

each other to be the one who owns it

first. Unless you have new, different and

distinguished product, you don’t need to

be at fair.

have interviewed with Barış Bumin

who highlights our country has significant

manufacturer firms in kitchenware sector.

Can you introduce yourself to us briefly,

how did you involve in the world of

design?

I graduated from Middle East

Technical University, Department of

Industrial Design in 2016. Since 2017,

I’m working at ASELSAN as industrial

designer and in the meantime I continue

my postgraduate education in industrial

design again in METU. Though I was

always interested in design, I have started

to feel myself get involved in the world of

design for real for the first time when I

was a senior student at the university with

contributions from projects I conducted

with manufacturer firms. I now try to keep

this feeling alive, developing projects for

national and international design contests

in addition to my projects I developed at

work as a professional designer.

In which sectors do you design? Which

field do you specifically prefer?

As my job requires, I now have

studies mostly on defense industry but

I see design as a way of thinking and I

believe this way of thinking may be used

effectively in solving different problems

in any field. So, I don’t want to limit

myself by making designs in only one

field because each project has its own

story and each story you

experienced adds you a

new knowledge and also

a new perspective. The wider

a designer’s perspective is, the more

successful his/her approach to projects

as well as solutions he/she develops, I

believe. Therefore, developing a number

of personal projects in various fields

in addition to professional projects,

I try to gain new perspectives.


your current projects?

I’m still working personally on

a UX (user experience) oriented

product assisting in improvement of

communication by improving efficiency of

meetings between freelance designers and

manufacturers to which they are providing

consultancy. Manufacturers who never

procured design services before mostly

have difficulties in describing the project

in their minds to consulting designer. So I

try to develop an assistant product with AI

which is able to enrich course of meeting

with model visual presentations turning

meeting tables into an interactive media.

I believe that we have no serious

problems in production in any

sector but I think we have serious

problems in value added production

and creating brand. We have to focus

on producing more innovative products

becoming more distinct through new

designs rather than just producing

standard products and to do so,

industrial design is essential.

However process requires

investment and effort. If our

manufacturer firms approach to this matter

from an innovative aspect and afford

to take certain risks, they can develop

innovative products with substantially

higher profitability. We also have important

manufacturer firms in kitchenware but we

see that there are firms in abroad having

higher brand value in the market, even

though being small sized companies thanks

to using industrial design more effectively.

If we take right steps in this matter, I believe

we can become having a corner in the

market thanks to our strong manufacturers.

Industrial Designer Çağatay Akça who

says that he is actively designing white

appliances, told Turkish Kitchenware that

how he has chosen this job and what he is

doing now.

Can you introduce yourself to us briefly?

How did you involve in the world of

design?

I’m interested in design ever since I

could remember. To find problems and

needs in daily routine and to materialize

their solutions on paper first and then

make them real by means of 3D objects

such as models, have become a natural

reflex and hobby of my life. When I

realized that, I said “I have to earn my

keep by doing my favorite thing for a

living” and I decided to be a designer.

I started my professional career after

I completed graduate program in

Department of Industrial Design at

Anatolian University, Faculty of

Architecture and Design. It

is extremely motivational

when you wake up a day

knowing that you are

going to do what

you love to do.

In which sector do you make designs?

Which field do you prefer specifically?

I’m actively designing white appliances.

I don’t have a specific choice on sectoral

basis. My basic motivation sources in

designing are to excite people when

responding their needs and finding

solutions to their problems and at the same

time adding value to society. As long as

these conditions are available, I’d be happy

to make designs in any field whatsoever.

In which area would you like to improve

yourself in the future and to have a

place in design world?

Life is indeed like a treadmill. Standing

firm on it would even cause to regress. So

we should improve ourselves in order to

advance all the time. And I try hard to do

so. I would like to advance in industrial

design and to produce more successful

designs. For this purpose, I believe

it is required to understand people

and their differences that make

them individuals. I’m interested

in psychology, sociology

and music to make this

easier for me. Other fields I

Pumpkin With Tahini And Grape MolassesIngredients: Pumpkin, tahini, grape molasses, crème, sugar

Instructions: Chop and combine pumpkins with sugar. Wait one day. Boil pumpkins you left with sugar for approx. 30 minutes. Wait for cooling and then mash with a blender. Give any shape you want using a mould. Serve with crème and tahini-grape molasses mixture.

Vegetable PancakeIngredients: Flour, egg, oil, milk, baking soda, salt, spinach, onion, cream, black pepper, cheddar, capia pepper.

Instructions: Prepare pancake dough at first. For pancake dough combine flour, egg, oil, milk, baking soda and salt. Prepare pancake dough so as not to be thicker or more liquid. In a pan, sauté onions and add capia peppers and spinach. Finally add cream and wait for boiling down. And put vegetable sauté on pancakes. Make wraps. Slice these wraps into three by a knife and add cheddar on these slices. Bake them.

Pineapple Sauced Bass With Risotto Cooked In Turnip Juice Ingredients: Bass, risotto, parmesan, turnip juice (not hot sauced), pineapple, lemon, salt, black pepper, olive oil, onion, butter, white wine and asparagus.

Instructions: Chop onions. Put some olive oil and onions in a pot. After sauting, add risotto. Mix them for 1 minute and add wine. While wine is boiling down, add turnip juice and flavor it with parmesan before it gets completely boiled down. In the meantime, slice the bass into two through its bone and empty part, leave its tail, roll it down and secured by means of a toothpick. Flavor the fish and bake. In a separate container, prepare a sauce with chopped pineapple, lemon and butter. Pour some on fishes. Serve with chive.

Akman remembers that she became

more reconciled to her job thanks

to masters she met at school and

points out that it was at the beginning

difficult working in a kitchen as a

woman. Güneş Akman tells that she

understood when she got there, why

there are so many male chefs in the

kitchens; “You have to face so many

challenges that it is very difficult to

overcome all of them as a woman. You

need to use more efforts and more

time. Yet this is not all of it. There

are so heavy works to handle in the

kitchen. Therefore many women do

this job for a while and then they

cannot just continue” she says.

Güneş Akman believed she

will succeed despite all difficulties

and this is her fifth year as a chef.

Offering her skills as a young

brilliant chef with her soft style

under the roof of Sofra Group,

Güneş Akman tells that her husband

who is a chef as well enjoys being in

the kitchen cooking meals at home.

Güneş Akman says that she loves

to cook everything but desert has a

special place in her heart and gives

advice to young especially female

chefs to be: “They should love this

job, they will face challenges at first

but do not give up. After a while,

they will reach to a certain level and

this would be a relief. They should

develop themselves, never give

up. This job suits us, women well.

Always remember that our mothers

are chefs of our homes.”

In 8th century B.C., Assos was

dominated by Lydian between 560

– 549 B.C. and then by Persian after

546 B.C. In 365 B.C. Phrygian Satrap

Ariobarzanes rebelled against Persian

King Artaxerxes and king was defeated

in the war in Assos. After that Assos is

seized by Banker Euboulos. Hermias

who is castrated slave of Euboulos and

also Platon’s pupil took the

helm of Assos. He invited

his friend Aristoteles

to Assos and made him

stay in Assos for three

years between 348 – 345

B.C. Aristoteles opened a

school of philosophy during this time in

Assos. After that in 334 B.C. Alexander

the Great defeated Persian and become

the ruler of Anatolia.

ITS BYZANTINE NAME: MAKHRAMION

We see that after Alexander, Assos

continued its life in domination of

Kingdom of Bergama between 241 and

133 B.C. When King of Bergama Attalos

the 3rd left his lands to Rome, Assos

entered into the Roman domination.

After 395 when Rome was divided into

two, Assos entered into the Byzantine

domination. In Byzantine period, Assos

was the center of episcopacy and we

know that its name was Makhramion

back then. Name of Behramkale village

which is today settled on ruins of the

city, is supposed to be a degenerated

form of this name. Behramkale became

land of Ottomans during sultanate of

Murad the 1st (1362 – 1389).

HOSTING PHILOSOPHY

There is a way through the village to

Acropolis which is built on the hills above

village at 238 meters height. Restoration

works were done on inner walls of acropolis

supported by secondary walls in Medieval

and Ottoman ages and also recently. There

is a mosque built during sultanate of Murad

the 1st. The bridge seen on the road to here

is also a structure dating from sultanate of

Murad the 1st. Ancient temple of Athena

is located in Doric order at a point of

Acropolis where Agean sea can be seen

widely with its breathtaking view. Temple

has 6 x 13 columns dating to 530 B.C. with

size of 14 x 30 m and currently some of

these columns are erected in their places.

Some reliefs of the Temple are placed in

the front of model temple which is built in

accordance with the original and displayed

in Istanbul Archeology Museum.

REMAINS OF ASSOS Among the remains of ancient

Assos, we can count Temple of

Athena in Acropolis, Byzantine walls,

Hüdavendigar Mosque, ancient roads

of Acropolis preserved well from

archaic era up to this day, graves on

both sides of this road, city walls,

Gymnasion, Agora, Stoa, Bouleuterion,

theatre and church.

Assos has a special place in the world of philosophy. Aristoteles, one of the most important philosophers of the world spent three years of his life in Assos and founded a philosophy school here during 347 – 344 B.C. Story of founding the school is that: Banker Eubulos who seized government of Assos city declared independence. After his death, his slave Hermenias took over the domination. Hermenias invited Aristoteles to Assos, as he knew him from Platon’s Academy in Athens where he went for his education in philosophy during Eubulos era. Hermenias was eager to practice Platon’s ideal state government which he told in his famous work ‘State’. Aristoteles went to Assos in 347 B.C. after his master Platon’s death. He became political consultant and friend of Hermias. In the meantime he built a school which was expressing originality since then. His work ‘Studies on biology’ is among his attempts at this school.

KÜLEK (WOODEN POT/ BUCKET) IS A CONTAINER WE SEE RARELY TODAY. THESE CONTAINERS CRAFTED BY WOODEN POTTERY CRAFTSMEN WERE USED TO CARRY OR STORE YOGHURT, MILK, GRAPE MOLASSES, BUTTER, AYRAN, WATER OR ETC. LIQUIDS. IN OLD KITCHENS, THESE CONTAINERS WERE EVEN USED TO KEEP CHICKPEA, BULGUR, LENTIL, BEANS ETC. GRAINS WITHOUT BECOMING BUG-INFESTED AND MOULDY.

Külek and similar products were

used by Turks in their daily

life during the times from

Anatolian Seljuks until today. Wooden

pottery craftsmen made külek in

round or elliptic forms and in different

sizes. These craftsmen had also a

bazaar named ‘Külekçiler Çarşısı’

where these craftsmen were

working all together,

making also sieve rims

and embroidery frames.

Diameters of large

wooden pots were

approx. 50 – 55 cm. In

a wooden pot with this

size, yoghurt made by

peasants was carried

to cities or water was

carried from fountain to

homes. Calico fabrics were generally

laid over wooden pots for yoghurt and

tied up with a rope around it. And

then it was covered by a broadleaved

plant, phlomis lycica which is

also referred as “mullein”, from

scrophulariaceae. While being brought

from village to city on animal’s back,

yoghurt became watery

when it arrived to

city, due to jiggling

on animal’s back.

it is sold. By this

In making wooden pots, timbers from morus alba (white mulberry), morus nigra (black mulberry), salix babylonica (willow) and juglans regia (walnut) are used. One side of the material which is become thin wooden boards by sawmills shall be refurbished by means of jack plane. Refurbished side shall correspond to outer face of pot. Then these boards are painted with jack paint. Generally walnut color is preferred for painting. And painted boards are dampened and then they are warmed on wooden boards on wide sawdust barbeque pits. By this process, wood gets softened

well and it is ensured that woods are ready to be bended without breaking while making pot. These softened woods are made curved once they are passed through a primitive machine, housing of which is made up of wooden, with having a roll turned round by arm strength. Woods dampened and then warmed on barbeque pits are compressed between and passed through these two rolls. Woods coming out in curved shape shall be pinned and let dry. This process requires arm strength. Once they dried up, curvy woods are integrated one by one on anvil by burned pattern pins.

in wooden pots for bread, and these

phyllo sheets would have remained

fresh for a long time. Wooden pots for

salt and bread were preferably made

of walnut tree and these were wooden

pots with smallest size. Wooden pots

for grape molasses were made of salix

babylonica.

Containers crafted by wooden

pottery craftsmen were also used

for other purposes than carrying or

storing yoghurt, milk, grape molasses,

butter, ayran, water or etc. liquids.

Wooden pots were used to keep

chickpea, bulgur, lentil, beans and etc.

firm had its first steps in early 1960 to

Ticaret San. Koli Şti. in 1984. It began

especially wanted by ladies to see them

How do you create new season products?

Where do you find your inspiration

for the details and lines in design, for

concepts created?

For new season products, we try

to reveal designs to attract consumers’

attention and to follow the agenda and

fashion. We produce versatile products in

our designs and concepts which can be

preferred for both daily use and special

occasions. We cooperate with many local

and foreign designers in specifically design

process and we keep our design open to

different philosophies and emotions.

We sell 70% of our production in local

market and export 30% of them.

Do you have distributors in abroad?

We export our products to Europe

from a store located in Germany. In

addition, our plants in Morocco, Algeria

and Tunisia produce and export our

cookware.

What kind of feedbacks do you get from

fairs you participated?

We have been taking positive

feedbacks from foreign customers at fairs

we participated in the past but now due

to shrinkage in market, we unfortunately

could not get feedbacks as we expected in

recent years.

Can you briefly tell us about your

product range?

We produce products in dinner sets,

breakfast sets, cutlery, tea – coffee –

cake service products and glassware,

cookware and kitchen equipments

segments. Among these, especially

cookware and porcelain products stand

out.

What are your future plans for

upcoming years?

Since 2017 when we started to go

retail, we have been serving at stores in

5 different shopping malls in Turkey

and 4 stores in abroad. Our target is to

increase number of stores to 30 by the

end of 2019. We prioritize going retail

in order to allow our customers to reach

our products very easily and to have a

chance to look them closer whenever

they want. In addition, we continue our

R&D studies to increase varieties in our

product range. We direct these studies

considering consumer demands and

expectations.

important for our firms since it is the

largest fair for this industry in the world.

This is our 23rd time participating to this

fair. We have firms participating for 17th

time. In 2007, number of firms involved

in Turkey’s national participation was 37

and this year, it is 73. Now we have become

addressing to every segment”.

achievements in 2017 said “Sectoral export

has been 4 billion 18 million dollars within

January – December 2017 period with

a 5,88% increase compared to the same

period of previous year. Only export for

January 2018 period has been 306 million

dollars with a 25% increase compared

to the same period of previous year.

Decrease in sector’s import continues.

Import has been 1,34 billion dollars in

previous year, decreasing by 22% and 1.29

billion dollars in 2017 with some decrease.

World kitchenware sector trading volume

has been 198 billion dollars in 2016. We

have approximately 2,0% share in world’s

kitchenware sector exports and ranked in

9th place. Unit export price of this sector

showed 0,77% increase in 2017 compared

to previous year”.

participated to “HONG KONG

HOUSEWARE FAIR 2018” held in Hong

Kong between April 20th and 23rd 2018

with the organization of our Association

for fourteenth time this year. One of the

biggest sectoral fairs within the region

in terms of number of participants and

visitors, Hong Kong Houseware Fair

is held at Hong Kong Convention and

Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) which is

located at downtown of Hong Kong and

known as one of the most prominent

fairgrounds in Far East.

where kitchenware, tableware, home

decoration, small electrical appliances,

bathroom accessories, cleaning tools,

furniture, garden furniture, handicrafts,

hygiene/ self care products, artificial

flowers, lighting armatures, hardware,

services and publications are exhibited,

is identified as Asia’s largest houseware

fair and being visited by buyers from all

over the world.

to increase its growth which was 10

percent in turnover during 2016-

2017 periods by 15 percent in 2018

to achieve approx. 15 billion TL.

stating their Association has 294

members, projects that this number

shall increase to 310 in 2018. Mr.

Gürkaynak highlights that Turkey is

in the third place after Germany and

Italy on industrial kitchen sector’s

world leadership scoreboard, and

says that their goal is to be one of

the top two in Europe and to triple

foreign trade volume and exports,

and that they make their efforts to

increase export volume which is now

approx. 1 billion dollars to 1,2 billion

in 2018.

7% SHARE IN GNP The fifth largest sector is furniture

which makes positive contributions in

Turkey’s last 12-year economic growth.

Furniture sector had 80% export

versus 20% import in 2017, namely

565 million dollars import versus

2,7 billion dollars export in figures.

furniture sector influences 19 sectors

directly by virtue of having a multiplier

effect on growth of subsectors and

providing employment to 500.000

people, simultaneously making an

indirect contribution to Turkey’s

economy, and they aim 500 million

dollars import and 3,5 billion dollars

export by the end of 2018. According

to TUIK’s data, Turkey is in 12th place

among top exporter countries in world

furniture sector with 204 different

destinations and 2,7 billion dollars

export volume.

under the roof of EVFED (Houseware

and Kitchen Equipments Federation) is

250 thousand tons/ year and their export

volume is 200 million dollars. Added

value provided to national economy by

this sector where more than 1500 people

are employed reaches to 400 million

dollars/ year. In this sense, sectors

represented by EVFED have such a

significant share as nearly 7% in Turkey’s

GNP which is approx. 700 billion dollars.

Share of sectors with approx. 15 billion

dollars annual export in our overall

export volume is nearly 10% and this

raises EVFED’s significance a lot.

URGE (SUPPORTING DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION)

1 & 2 COLOMBIAN DELEGATIONSThe Colombian Business Delegation

was held with organization of

EVSID (Houseware and Kitchenware

Industrialists and Exporters Association)

between July 22nd and 27th 2018.

Delegation’s purpose can be defined

briefly as to bring firms involved in

Houseware and Kitchenware Ur-

Ge (Supporting Development of

International Competition) Project

together with potential importer,

distributor and chain store companies

based in Colombia and its neighboring

countries for enabling these firms to

enter in the market.

Within the framework of the event

to which our 24 member firms are

participating, a database on potential

buyers has been created firstly and an

organization has been made to allow

each firm meet 28 potential buyers

based in Colombia and its neighboring

countries during bilateral business

meetings to last 2 days on a full-time

basis. Also local wholesalers and chain

supermarkets based in Bogota visited

before these bilateral business meetings

and a meeting was held after business

meetings on how to enter Colombian

market and planning the roadmap

following these business meetings.

We saw that in Colombian market,

our export is way below its potential

especially in metallic houseware and

kitchenware segment. It is targeted to

increase our export firstly in metallic

and plastic segment in Colombia.

HOUSEWARES SHOW 2018

to International Home &

Housewares Show 2018 fair

with the organization of our

Association for fourteenth

time this year. International

Home & Housewares Show

2018 held in Chicago, USA

between March 10th and 13th

2018 is known as one of the

most important sectoral fairs

in houseware, kitchenware

and cookware fields.

IH&HS fair organization

is held at McCormick Place

fairground with 234.000 m2

area. With its 3 halls, this

fairground has 600 meeting

rooms with 54.000 m2 area, 6

ball rooms, and a theatre with

4300-space capacity for sitting

audiences, a parking lot with

5800-car capacity. Within Grand

Concourse which links halls to

each other, there are a number

of stores for food-beverage and

other shopping purposes.

Our Association

participated to this fair in

2018 with 10 firms occupying

232,5 m2 area in total at

North and South halls of

the fairground. During the

fair, our firms exhibited

noncombustible, non-stick

pans and cooking pots, and

stainless steel, plastic, metal

and ceramic equipments for

kitchen, bathroom and house.

2.244 firms participated

to IH&HS 2018 fair in total

from 47 countries, namely

being 50% of participants

outside the US. Other than

individual participants; Japan,

Italy, France, Brazil, Korea,

Colombia, Hong Kong, India

and Indonesia including our

country Turkey had their

own national participation

organizations. According to fair

statistics, 99% of the top 200

local retailers were registered in

the system to participate to this

fair. Total number of our firms

participating individually and

under national organization

is 20. Fair is visited by nearly

60.000 visitors and more than

20.000 professional buyers

coming from more than 120

countries.

ZUCDER – TURKISH HOUSEWARE ASSOCIATION

ZUCDER (Turkish Houseware

Association) is founded in 2004 and has

been one of the key representatives of

houseware sector in Turkey, including

a wide range of products from

glassware, porcelain, ceramic, metal,

plastic, enamel, wooden, tableware and

kitchenware to small house appliances

and souvenirs.

Subsuming 460 members under

its structure, ZUCDER covers 85-90%

of the sector having 7 billion dollars

annual production capacity. These

460 members are manufacturers,

importers, exporters, wholesalers,

distributors and retailers who

have prestige and reputation both

nationally and internationally. As it is

an umbrella organization gathering all

segments of the sector, operates more

like a federation than an association.

For this purpose, association is run

by decisions putting national interests

first and sectoral interests and firms’

common interests second.

ZUCDER’s most important

mission is to develop both national

and international trading businesses of

its members, to support development

of sector and to increase competitive

power of firstly our country and

secondly our sector and members

relying on the power of the sector

coming from being united.

Being elected as President of the

Association İsmail Erdoğan, Chairman

of the Executive Board of Hisar A.Ş.

has been founder member and vice

president of ZUCDER since 2004

and he is President of the Executive

Board of ZUCDER since March 2018.

He is also a delegate to TİM (Turkish

Exporters Assembly) representing

İMMİB (Istanbul Minerals and Metals

Exporters Association). He was born in

1954 in Akşehir, Turkey. He completed

his high school education at Austrian

High School and bachelor degree in

Business Administration at İ.İ.T.A. He

has been working undertaking various

tasks and responsibilities at Hisar

company manufacturing cutlery and

steel cookware since 1981.
