Sandeep Munjal, MD, FAAOS, orthopaedic surgeon at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, is pleased to offer a new, CT-free, robotic-assisted partial knee replacement surgery using the Navio™ Smart Orthopaedic Surgical System.

The Navio™ orthopedic surgical system helps Dr. Munjal perform precise and accurate partial knee replacement surgeries. The new robotic device is currently available at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery

“Potential benefits to the patient are numerous. It makes partial knee replacement a more accessible option—with typically smaller incisions, less scaring, and a quicker recovery.”- Sandeep Munjal, MD, FAAOS

Navio™ Surgical System Overview:• Designed to enable bone cutting

through small incisions

• System is comprised of a navigation system and software package, surgeon-controlled touchscreen interface and hand-held robotic instrument

• Computer-control enforces precision onto the surgeon’s movements for accurate bone preparation for implants

• Image-free registration and planning software means the patient does not have to get a pre-operative CT scan, the surgeon maps the patient’s anatomy and creates a custom plan for their knee

• Benefits of using the Navio™ technology over traditional manual partial knee replacement technique include:

- Greater surgical precision, fewer implant alignment outliers

- Accurate balancing of soft-tissue throughout the full range-of-motion

- An ability to picture what the x-rays will look like before making a single cut

- Achieving the final bone preparation with limited intra-operative adjustments

- Complete control of the surgical procedure without having to rely on a company representative to run the equipment

Potential Patient Benefits:What can Navio™ mean for patients?

• Consistent results

• Accurately placed implants

• Customized planning

• No CT radiation required

Benefits of partial knee over total knee replacement?

• Less pain

• Quicker recovery

• Lower risk of complications

• Smaller incisions

• Less blood loss

• Retain healthy ligaments

• Shorter hospital stay

None of these benefits can be guaranteed, as surgery can be both patient and procedure specific.

Imaging Centerat Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion

Patient comfort is our priority. The calm and sophisticated surroundings of our space creates a relaxing experience for patients. The MRI suite even allows you choose “destination imagery” for your exam.

Relax in a Convenient and Affordable Setting

The Imaging Center at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion includes board certified radiology technologists who are committed to answering patient questions and easing

anxiety. In addition, we partner with local radiologists to provide accurate and timely

imaging reports.

We understand that imaging tests can be stressful. That’s why our staff puts an extra emphasis on making patients feel comfortable and at ease. In fact, we are known for helping patients get through difficult imaging tests that may have been unsuccessful elsewhere.

Cost-Effective Outpatient Testing

In many cases, in-office imaging services at PCI are less expensive for our patients than other imaging locations. Office-based billing allows for cost-effective testing and on-site

diagnostic procedures.

Accreditation

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa has been awarded accreditation in both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). We are also accredited in CT in the areas of Sinus and Temporal Bone CT by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

Imaging Services• X-Ray

• Computed Tomography (CT) - Our Philips CT machine offers the lowest dose of radiation available in Eastern Iowa.

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (3T MRI)

• Bone Density (DEXA)

Did you know?We accept outside orders and appointments. Same-day and next-day appointments can often be scheduled based on availability.

NEW imaging services are coming in 2015! We’re currently planning for the arrival of a 1.5T MRI and a PET/CT.
