1. SENSORY INTEGRATIVE
THERAPY
We experience the world through our
senses. While we generally teach children
about five senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and
hearing), there are actually additional senses
that are very important to the way we function
in the world.
The sensory systems are the gateways of
information to and from the brain and body.

SENSORY INTEGRATIVE THERAPY
Our bodies and the environment send
our brains information through our
senses. We process and organize thisinformation so that we feel comfortable
and secure. We are then able to respond
appropriately to particular situations andenvironmental demands. This is sensory
integration.

2. ORAL-MOTOR AND FEEDING
THERAPY
Treatment of oral motor and feeding
disorder is an organized approach for
achieving adequate muscle strength, control, swallow function, respiration
positioning and a balanced oral sensory
system, all prerequisite to meeting nutritional needs.

ORAL-MOTOR AND FEEDING
THERAPY
Skills developed in early
feeding play an important role in
speech development, as the samesystems are key players in achieving
intelligible speech

3. CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle light touch
manual therapy hands on treatment method
that focuses on alleviating restrictions to the
physiological craniosacral system. Clinically, we
have found it to be useful for muscular/skeletal
dysfunctions, neurologically based problems,
fascial restrictions, adhesions and othermovement related problems.

4. INTERACTIVE METRONOME (IM)
The Interactive Metronome© (IM)
is a computer-based training
program shown to improve
attention, coordination and timing
in children and adults with a wide
range of cognitive and physical
difficulties including attentiondeficit hyperactivity disorder
(ADHD).

INTERACTIVE METRONOME (IM)
´ As the participant listens, he/she must anticipate the beatand perform various hand and foot exercises for a highnumber of repetitions. Auditory guide tones provideimmediate feedback, letting the participant know if the
response was on time, early or late.´ The difference between the participants· response and the
actual beat is measured in milliseconds and presented as ascore. A lower IM score indicates improved accuracy andtiming.
´ By keeping the beat, the brain is trained to plan, sequenceand process information more effectively. Research hasclearly shown that the brain learns through repetition of precise activities. In turn, this produces measurable gains inphysical and mental abilities

INTERACTIVE METRONOME (IM)
The Interactive Metronome has found manyapplications helping people improve their timing, motor planning, and sequencing of thoughts and
actions:´ Increased concentration and focus
´ Improvements in reading and language
´ Gains in overall coordination
´ Greater control of impulsivity
´ Reduced auditory sensitivity

5. HANDWRITING SKILLS
The Handwriting Program
is a specialized program developed to improveprinting and cursive handwriting skills.
The program goal is to have children
successfully master handwriting techniquesas an easy and automatic skill.

6. BRAIN INTEGRATION THERAPY
´ Brain Integration Therapy
is a unique merging of
Applied Kinesiology andlearning theory. It is a
synthesis of both ancient and
modern disciplines.

BRAIN INTEGRATION THERAPY
´ Applied Kinesiology is the study of muscles
and the science of testing and balancing them
to help the brain and body functionharmoniously. Brain Integration Therapy
Repatterning uses information from ´Muscle
Testingµ to alleviate imbalances in the way
different parts of the brain and body worktogether.

BRAIN INTEGRATION THERAPY
Repatterning helps the right and left-brain to´switch-onµ and work together more fully.
Brain Integration at CDC is offered by
Occupational Therapy as part of thetreatment plan. If you child is bright, butcannot focus, write thoughts down fluency, remember what was just read and/or
demonstrate writing/reading reversals, askyour occupational therapist about BrainIntegration Therapy.

9. THERAPEUTIC LISTENING
´ Therapeutic Listening® is an evidence-
backed protocol that combines a
sound-based intervention with sensory
integrative activities to create a comprehensive programthat is effective for diverse populations with sensorychallenges. Therapeutic Listening can impact sensorymodulation, attention, behavior, postural organization, and speech and language difficulties. Trained therapistslearn to use modulated CDs to set up programs forclients in homes, schools and clinics. Listening is afunction of the entire brain; when we listen, we listenwith the whole body.

10. KINESIO TAPING
Kinesio® Taping is a new and effective treatment methodwhere tape is applied over and around specific muscles toprovide joint support and muscle re-education. Kinesio®Taping is used to:
´
Facilitate optimal movement patterns´ Improve body / muscle alignment
´ Strengthen weak muscles
´ Relax tight muscles
´ Stabilize or support joints
´ Decrease pain and swelling
´ Improve motor skills development and function
´ Enhance recovery from injuries

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION CLINIC
W hat is the mission of the D&E Clinic?
The mission of the D&E Clinic program is toidentify and evaluate children, birth to 21
years, to delineate any medical conditions that
may be contributing to developmental delay or
disability.

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION CLINIC
W ho is eligible for a D&E Clinic?
Referrals, appropriate for a D&E, are typically children who are suspected of having
neurodevelopmental delays of a significant amount in two or more areas. Some
examples follow:
1. A child with multiple health concerns causing disabling conditions of any kind.
2. Any child who is at risk for neurodevelopmental delays because of his/her
environmental situation or past history of family difficulties or associated medical
problems.
3. Children with cognitive delays, who have ongoing medical problems and for whom
the therapeutic interventions being attempted are failing.
4. Any child who is exceptionally small or growing poorly, particularly children
identified as Failure To Thrive.5. A child with neurodevelopmental delays who has been previously diagnosed but
with whom new developmental problems have arisen may be a candidate.
6. Children who present a picture as being medically puzzling, showing a significant
lack of progress, or a deterioration of condition.
