SPECIFIC EXERCISE FOR PARKINSON'S The most recent literature regarding Parkinson's disease suggests that exercise is essential in providing a comprehensive solution to patients with Parkinson's disease. The landscape is changing and patients need an early intervention strategy that is specific to them, their symptoms, derived from neuroplastic training exercise principles and sustainable for long-term adherence. Traditionally, exercise prescription for Parkinson's disease has been administered once people are falling. This has been unable to prevent the number of falls in people or slow the progression of symptoms. Recent evidence has shown that better results are possible by treating people early after diagnosis, before they are falling or freezing - with intensive, amplitude based and multi-tasking training strategies. The results from exercise programs such as these show an improvement in quality of life and self-efficacy, depression, fatigue and bodily discomfort as well as a longer time on monotherapy when compared to patients taking medication alone,. PD Warrior is an early intervention strategy for people who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. The PD Warrior Philosophy is that exercise, education, community and a life-long commitment to fighting the symptoms of Parkinson's can help patients to develop a greater state of physical, mental and social wellbeing. + = OPTIMAL MEDICATION OPTIMAL EXERCISE BEST PRACTICE GP RESOURCE Exercise can help Exercise Essentials Benefits Tremor Bradykinesia Post DBS Rigidity Falls Loss of mobility 1. SPECIFIC EXERCISE FOR

PARKINSON'SThe most recent literature regarding Parkinson's disease suggests that exercise is essential in providing a comprehensive solution to patients with Parkinson's disease.

Neurologists and other health professionals are referring to PD Warrior as a game-changer and, since its launch in Australia in 2012, it has grown exponentially, with extremely successful outcomes and widespread popularity.

"I refer most of my newly diagnosed patients to PD Warrior and typically they come back with improved confidence and energy levels, and their symptoms are often better than they were." -Dr Stephen Tisch, Neurologist, St Vincent's Hospital , Sydney.

Melissa McConaghy, FACP, is the founder of PD Warrior. She holds a Master of Health Science in Neurological Physiotherapy and is one of seven Specialist Neurological Physiotherapists in Australia. She is the past Chair and National Representative of the NSW
