Icebreaker: “It Wasn’t Me, But...”Instructions:● Each person at the table writes something interesting they have

done--the sillier or more unbelievable the better. ● Write legibly, you will not be reading your own writing!

● Shuffle the “deck” so the index cards are mixed up and place them face down.

● Each participant takes turns selecting a card. Introduce yourself to the group with your name, where you live, the organization where you work. Then read the card, beginning with the phrase, “It wasn’t me, but someone at this table...”

● When you hear your card read, admit to the group “That was me”. You then become the next person to select a card. Continue until all the cards are gone and everyone is introduced.

● A mentor can help you because “you don’t know what you don’t know”● Example: “Key words” in

performance reports

Consideraons for MentorsSix basics of mentoring on which leaders agree:1. Mentoring is building a relationship. 2. The mentor must believe that he or she has something important

to offer to the right person. All agreed that the mentor should be a role model for the mentee, and help the mentee know the right things to do.

3. The mentor must express genuine caring to the mentee. 4. Discussing and helping develop goals were rated as essential to

facilitating the mentee's growth.5. The mentor should listen to whatever the mentee wants to talk

about.6. The mentor should do all the things he or she can to develop

trust with the mentee."
