WHEN DOES SPIRITUAL GROWTH BEGIN
In order to grow spiritually, you must have a spirit. How do you get that spirit and what is that spirit?
The beginning point for spiritual growth is to be spiritually born again. Jesus tells Nicodemus “Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot WHAT?

What happens when you walk a mile?
What happens when you run a mile?
If you can walk a mile, what prevents you from running a mile?
This is similar to being born in the Spirit and being filled with the Spirit. You begin Spirit life as a child.
In Jesus’ response, water refers to the amnioCc fluid that breaks before a child is born, not a water bapCsm. Being born physically makes one a part of the physical kingdom, being born spiritually makes one a part of the spiritual kingdom

In verse 12, we see that a person has to believe and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior in order to be born of the Spirit. We have to not only intellectually believe in Christ, but personally accept Him in our hearts to be born Spiritually. Once we have been born spiritually, then and only then can we begin spiritual growth.
The author says once a person has been born spiritually, nothing else has to happen to that person’s spirit in order for that person to go to heaven.
