STALEMATE AT CHALKY LANE AFTER AN EXCITING DRAW
A steely defensive display managed the Hammers first consecutive league clean sheet inseveral seasons, whilst the controlled passing and attacking football left Cobham feelingunlucky not to take all three points. Missing 5 regular players with injuries the forward trio ofMiller, Truman and Mbu were working hard to try keep the ball in the opposition half, theirpersistence allowing Powponne and Gray to squeeze up and try their luck with some rangeyefforts.
Davy in the Cobham goal, making his debut looked assured as he came and took some crossesand distributed well. Captain Martin Weighill optimised the grit of the back four as theymanaged to repel anything Chessington could throw at them including last season’s leaguetop scorer.
In the second half Theodorus, Powponneand Gray started to find their range ofpassing but any sustained pressure wasthwarted by a determined Chessingtonside looking to cement their place in thetop four. The introduction of Williamsseemed to spark something in the finalthird, his movement and manipulation ofthe ball managed to open up the defenceand both he, Miller and Powponne wentclose with efforts. In the same timeframe, Davy produced the save of thematch palming a rocket shot out of thetop corner to cap a fine debut display Inthe end it wasn't quite enough for eitherside but plenty of positives for Cobhamfrom an overall assured display.
Men’s 1st in 10th place.
