18 :: n4a 2015 Conference & Tradeshow Sponsorship, Tradeshow and Advertising Prospectus
Advocacy n4a advocates on behalf of older adults, caregivers,
people with disabilities and the aging professionals
who assist them. n4a is the advocacy voice for
AAAs and Title VI Native American aging programs,
and works to advance policies that effectively and
efficiently address the needs of aging America. n4a‘s
policy priorities include the reauthorization of the
Older Americans Act, enhancing the health of older
adults, and developing livable communities‘ initiatives
and mobility options for seniors.
While continually monitoring the big picture of aging
policy, programs and services, n4a’s heart remains
at the local level, where older adults and caregivers
benefit immeasurably from the services that AAAs and
Title VI aging programs provide.
Actionn4a trains, prepares and honors aging leaders and
professionals. n4a is working consistently to create
leaders and system-wide excellence throughout the
Aging Network. Challenges such as the aging of the
boomers, limited funding available for services, and
the significant health and long-term care needs that
the aging population requires demand excellence in
leadership and specialized training. n4a has launched
the following efforts to ensure local aging leaders
and their organizations are ready to face an aging
population and are recognized for the work they do:
TRAIN AND PREPARE
▶ n4a Leadership Institute—Held annually and
supported by corporate partners (Harmony and
Bateman Senior Meals), the Leadership Institute
prepares the country’s local aging leaders for
boomers entering the aging service system, while
also preparing the network for the challenge of losing
local leaders to retirement.
▶ Capacity Building—n4a, in partnership with Scripps
Gerontology Center at Miami University, heads
a multifaceted initiative involving surveys of the
network to assess capacity and technical assistance
tools to support capacity development of the network
to expand home and community-based options for
older people and/or their caregivers.
▶ Aging and Disability Partnership for Managed
Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS)—
n4a, in partnership with other aging and disability
organizations, is leveraging the resources of both
networks’ extensive infrastructure, service capacity
and experience to ensure the delivery of high-quality
MLTSS.
HONOR
▶ Aging Innovations and Achievement Awards—n4a
and sponsor CST-LTL recognize excellence through
this annual awards program. The most innovative and
successful aging services programs are honored and
shared as best practices so they can be replicated by
the Aging Network, where applicable.
▶ Excellence in Leadership Award—n4a honors
excellence among individual aging leaders with this
annual award. This is the highest honor existing for
local aging leaders.

Answers on Agingn4a provides Answers on Aging to consumers and
professionals. These initiatives provide outreach and
education through the network of local AAAs and
Title VI Native American aging programs that help
older adults remain in their homes and communities,
including the following outreach strategies:
▶ Eldercare Locator—In partnership with and funded
through a grant from AoA, n4a administers a state-
of-the-art national call center to connect older adults
and caregivers to AAAs, Title VI aging programs and
other trusted resources in their communities. The call
center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m.
to 8:00 p.m. ET and offers information on long-term
care alternatives, transportation options, caregiver
issues and government benefits eligibility.
▶ The Aging Network’s Volunteer Collaborative—
The Collaborative is a virtual resource center offering
the latest strategies, principles and practices that are
producing an 8:1 return on investment for agencies
committed to change how they think about and
utilize volunteers to meet the increasing demand for
services across the Aging Network.
▶ National Center on Senior Transportation (NCST)—
In partnership with Easter Seals and other partners,
n4a provides technical assistance to professionals
at the local and state levels to improve and expand
transportation options that help older adults live
more independently in their communities. NCST also
conducts research and provides demonstration grants
to learn about and advance transportation options for
older adults.
▶ Pilot and Demonstration Grants—In partnership
with corporate entities and other organizations, n4a
works to provide a vehicle to test, document and
share best practices through local AAAs and Title VI
aging programs. Pilots include outreach to hard-
to-reach populations for Low-Income Subsidies,
collaborative senior transportation solutions and
fitness programs.
▶ Livable Communities—n4a is instrumental in the
development of a number of initiatives to coordinate
access to services and supports to communities
and local agencies taking action to make their
communities livable for all ages. A sample of
resources and technical assistance include: Maturing
of America (MetLife Foundation), a national survey of
city and county governments to assess their aging
readiness, including a benchmarking survey to assess
progress after five years; a Blueprint for Action:
Developing a Livable Community for All Ages (MetLife
Foundation), a resource guide for local leaders; and
the development of Learning Collaboratives to assist
communities plan and implement aging in place
strategies.
